Everything just looks disjointed and slow, players either don't understand each others game or don't trust each other enough because there's no cohesion and teamwork. Missing players is one thing but these lot are more than good enough to be producing better football than this and the fact we can't see improvements in performance over time is a real worry at this point because we really need to build momentum and confidence if this season isn't going to be a total disaster but instead we look to be teetering on the edge permanently, just waiting for another battering.

It is the same basic shape no matter who he plays in midfield. It is unexplainable as a tactic.
Disagree. This midfield shape is what we want - Amrabat can play the base - but the two 8s (or 10 in Bruno’s case) need to play their roles. McT is limited but kind of trying, he’s really not amazing in possession. Bruno appears to be playing his own game where he decides to play everywhere.

Anyone who says our performances are better than under Ole is wrong. We still play as individuals. There is still no method. We have no midfield creativity tonight. Amrabat is playing sometimes like a central defender. McT is being told to play forward nearer to Hojlund. And Bruno is all over the shop.

Ten Hag was supposed to be a press monster. But there is just nothing there. Nothing.
Rangnick was suppose to be a pressing monster… you can’t make lazy players press. Impossible. That’s like trying to make a dog talk. I think Rashford is a main reason behind a lot of things. He’s the one player that’s played under all the managers since LVG.

Hojlund can't have the same rating ad the players who where actively bad. He actually did some things once or twice

This has been worse than the LVG era or Ole horror shows. No real intention behind our passes, McTominay is playing a strange position, Bruno nowhere to be seen. Intensity is completely gone in both directions, the pressing is gone as well. Whatever we wanted to show tonight, this is most certainly not it.
Ole always entertained, even when we got battered. I know he was not the answer but Christ I am missing him right now, at least we battered a few teams when we were on under him, with ETH we are so fecking boring even when we win.

They had 5km more gorund covered by min35 and it shows. They just put more effort in and are playing as a team.

This man managed to play beautiful football at Ajax, it's not the manager, can't be again

    It's these players!!!

Not sure what the point is playing this dour possession football against Copenhagen. This does not seem the way to implement ETH's style of football at United. I liked his approach last season much better: pragmatic, sure, but true to United's DNA. This is just a nervy version of Ajax. Perfectly appropriate for the likes of Spurs, say, but in a true turn of irony the United coach is at Spurs right now.

Really disheartening. ETH has done a lot of good and if it keeps going like this his successor will have a much easier job than he started with. But to me he's now on a road to nowhere. The players aren't picking it up. The excitement whenever even an aimless high ball goes forward, the alertness in the team, and then the immediate deflation when discipline sets back in and the ball goes short, backwards, into the feet of Maguire.

Eriksen and Mount will improve our play. Can’t play decent football with Mctominay in there! Ridiculous from ETH team selection.
Add Antony and Rashy and Bruno. Some big calls are needed but he fails badly

Deflated. Wanted the manager to bring what he had at Ajax here, but the job genuinely looks too big for him and he's lost every one of the principles he was renowned for. We're hanging on for dear life without a clue what to do with or without the ball.

It's not just an abject performance; it's shockingly below par for the personnel we have. We might consider those players not good enough, but this is more than that. They look lost and are making things up on the hop, which mostly doesn't come off. Nobody knows what the other is thinking, and all the mis-steps and jarring actions in our 'build-up' evidence it time and time again. The Amrabat-Dalot incident epitomising the whole team, really.

We will hopefully have a moment or two that wins us the game, but we are so much less than the sum of parts that you know we're around the corner from some real beatings as the better teams roll round.

Hopefully Anthony will be replaced by Pellistri as we desperately need a winger to get past the defender towards the line and some crosses in the box for Hojland. Think he will play Bruno there though.

Amrabat & Erikson looked good second half. He will play Mount as well.

If Regullion is fit then that will be great and might get more of a tune out of a woeful Rashford.

ETH doesn’t make a lot of changes though so probs more if the same.
Eriksen gives us football intelligence. We have nobody with that tonight. We always seem to be good at signing midfielders who cannot control the pace of the game.and pick killer.passes.

Love the low energy behind that. "Just give them all fives and feck off."

Just popped in. Guessing it's the usual dull, aimless, utter shite?

By the way, I wrote the word "t u r g i d" and it appeared on the thread as 'tumescent' or something. Am I missing something?
I'd stay away from this match if I was you. Better mental health that way.

Could hardly have played worse mate. Zero chances created. Been in their third about 5 times where we’ve either done a donkey touch or made the wrong decision. They’ve zipped it about us like prime Barca. Every one of their hopeful clearances falls to their player who wants it more and has competent control. Our defence looks shaky as feck. Our passing is either sideways, backwards, or inaccurate.

    Sound familiar?

Don't win this and ETH should be out of a job by all rights. Won't happen of course but there is no excuses for building and managing the worst United team post Ferguson.

We are in the delaying the inevitable stage and it's clear as day. I'm not even that bothered about firing him but from purely analytical standpoint he'd be fired if we weren't on like our 5th manager post Fergie.
I don't think there is a manager out there who could get this lot playing decent football, who would you put in the hot seat?

This is the most concerning bit. We’re pretty much only missing him and Martinez at the mo. Are they both really that instrumental? Hard to see where the improvement is coming from.
They are. They progress the ball for us better than any other players in the team. They're also safe in possession.

Why is anyone surprised? We're rubbish literally every match. We'll be smashed by City and then play like this again against Fulham. Maybe we'll win and people will act like everything's fine

He seems to have aborted the Mount experiment 10 games into the season - doesn’t look good. Worse than that, how did our coaching team come up with a system that further exacerbates our issues. Bruno playing deep, not being involved. McT playing in a strange role where he needs to playmake. Arambat covering a lot of ground by himself. Inverted wingers with very few overlaps from full backs. This is a real bad look for EtH.

I was a big critic of Ole and I would be hypocritical not to criticise ETH so far this season. We have been worse than anything I have seen under any manager since Fergie retired. Even with Rangnick, we at least had like one good game for every 4 terrible performances. The only time we played well for more than like 20 minutes this season was the Palace game where we fielded some youngsters. Amazing.

I'm no big fan of some of these players but we keep falling into the same trap of believing everything can be fixed by changing one or two of them - blaming individuals for what are clearly wider, tactical issues

The manager has failed to turn this unit into an effective team. I won't have that there isn't enough talent in this side to perform much better than we have since January. Far inferior teams and players are able to form basic attacking patterns and knock the ball around with some semblance of a plan

That was just awful. No passion, no urgency. Need to get subs on to get some momentum. You would think they’d be busting a gut for Sir Bobby - but no, snails move faster than this lot. If Maguire gets MOM again, it tells us all we need to know
