The plan may have been to counter attack but it certainly wasn't to sit deep and do it. We played with a very high line which got regularly exposed by a simple pass into the channels or between the CB's. Even when we were 2-0 up the Arsenal goal came from a simple lob over the top that even Giroud could get on the end of. In all the years we did it with Fergie never did we get so thoroughly outplayed and give them so many gilt edged chances, the entire idea of sitting back is to be compact and limit the chances they have but they walked the ball into the final 3rd with ease and had they got the goal or 2 the entire game dynamic has changed, I see no real difference in that level of performance than the one vs Leicester except Leicester were clinical.

You can't let the result get in the way of the fact we have major problems and if you regularly allow sides to have 20+ shots and 12 corners in a game you'll find yourself getting beaten plenty. First half was arguably our worst performance of the season.
I agree on the second paragraph, the first half was awful and we let them in constantly (mostly first 30 minutes until we calmed down). But like I said, it was fine after that. Wasn't a change of tactic or anything, it was just the players got to grips with the game and starting performing like they should have from the start. In the second half, what clear cut chance did they have? Took a wonder strike by Giroud to score really, all their other chances were shots from range or just half chances, which when you're 1-0 up away to Arsenal, will always happen. We haven't been allowing sides to have 20+ shots against us or anything though. Arsenal away was the one time that happened.

And yeah, I agree we have major problems. Any side with 40 injuries in the first 4 months will have major problems. Is it a problem that extends much further then simply injuries stopping us from getting consistency or form? I don't think so.

Luke shaw will probably be out for a couple of months. So I don't know why he's in everyone team. wishful thinking maybe?
Probably because he walked off the pitch without a limp or anything and looked basically ok. So it would be a surprise if it was a serious injury.

LVG will probably keep it similar to the Arsenal game and try to build on from that. So I'm going for 3-5-1-1.

    ---McNair---Smalling---Blackett
    Valencia-------------------------Young
    ------------Fellaini--Carrick

    A couple of months?

He walked off the pitch ffs.
You never know with ligament injuries really. Think I read that Wilshere is out for like 8-10 weeks, pretty sure he walked off. Hope he isn't though.

hopefully some rotation here. herrera for fellaini even though fellaini has been been playing well.

rvp needs a break. wilson needs a start. as simple as that.

This is the only realistic starting 11 I've seen, which seems likely.
Firstly RvP won't be dropped because we have no other option.
He is the only front man we have which is why his name always goes on the team sheet. Rooney is a No.10 and LvG doesnt like playing him at the front.
Falcao is injured. Di Maria and Januzaj are not front men. Ergo RvP (who IMO shouldnt play), will play.

Some people seem to be once again (just like in the Arsenal thread), putting Falcao in the team. This guy is injured. LvG knows it. He won't risk giving this guy more than about 20 minutes.
His injury has to be managed very carefully, so dont expect him to play 90 minutes for at least a few months. Is no one understanding this?

In a similar vein, people are putting Herrara's name in the mix - this guy is injured and not ready to play 90 minutes. He may come on a sub, though.
The same applies to Rafael and all our other injured players.

Given the injury problems that LvG is dealing with, he is going to be very careful to ensure that players who are already injured are not rushed back, to get re-injured (for another few weeks).
Fans keep stating that LvG needs to sort out these injuries and manage them somehow. That is exactly what he is doing by not playing injured players.

We can beat Hull without Shaw, Falcao, Herrera and Rafael. And LvG knows this. Why risk playing with injured players?
Not, If we play 3 at the back.
Weaker opponent tend to sit before launching a counter attack that could be too dangerous, our defense is more or less the same as arsenal which is vulnerable to face the counter attack.
I dont want the same result as we did against swansea.
    3pts is a must.

Just because a player walks off the pitch it doesn't mean they will be fine. Ozil played on vs Chelsea and is out until January. Blind walked off and could be out for a couple of months.

Shaw's injury is very likely to keep him out for at least 2 weeks I would say. I'm no doctor but him walking off like that suggest it's a twisted ankle at the very least.

I hope I'm wrong and he's fit for Hull but I would be very, very surprised if he somehow makes that.

Do people not realise we play Stoke 3 days later? I expect a few players to be rested (rotated).
Our first midweek match since August....do some players really need a rest after the Hull match???
I would finally like to see a consistent starting XI in the next weeks (with the hope of no new injuries )

Has anyone even seen anything of Hull this season? I'm not even sure what to expect of them. Hopefully Shaw is fit, 3-5-2 at home just invites pressure a bit too much.
Well Hull were interesting to watch in September to mid October (6 matches)
    Goals scored: 12
    Goals conceded: 14

Their last 4 matches were a bit boring
    Goals scored: 1
    Goals conceded: 4

But just 2 wins the whole season (One win on the first matchday against QPR).....there can be no excuses if we don't beat them!!!!!

But i think they've changed their formation from 3-5-2 to 4-4-2 in the last match against Tottenham....it would be interesting to see if we and Hull would play 3-5-2 in this match on Saturday

Player to watch: Andrew Robertson (Left-back)

    I'd like to see:

    DDG

    Shaw (Young)
    Smalling
    McNair
    Rafael (Valencia)

    Rooney
    Wilson

Prediction: 3-0 (Wilson, Di Maria, Mata)

Luke Shaw left Arsenal in a protective boot.

So he could be out for a few weeks. Nothing has been made official so i would suggest we all wait for the press conference.

I would love to see a midfield partnership of Fellaini and Herrera. Same formation as the previous game because it seems like we outta fullbacks but with Herrera and Young for Carrick and Shaw respectively. I would place Rooney as the lone striker with Mata taking up his position but i know that won't happen. I've got a feeling this could be RvP's last chance before LvG decides to give Wilson/Rooney/Falcao a try. Hopefully, he rises from the ashes

Initially Crutches and or boot is cautionary & doesn't say much to be honest or than there may be a problem.

We've got Anthony Taylor as the referee for this one, and Jonathan Moss as the referee in the Stoke game.

Taylor's card-giving seems about average in terms of numbers, but Jonathan Moss is the league leading referee in giving red cards. 4 red cards so far this season, in 9 games.

What's the betting for red cards for Fellaini and Shawcross?

Herrera and Mata in for RVP (been shit, needs dropping) and Fellaini (give the big man a rest for Stoke)...

    Valencia
    McNair
    Smalling
    Blackett
    Young

    Carrick
    Herrera

Probably an unchanged team. I don't think van Gaal can change the team much because of the massive injury list. The only question mark is van Persie but Falcao is probably not ready yet. Herrera will most likely be on the bench again with Fellaini being preferred for his extra height and physicality.

    No winters here!
Every game we have won this season has been a nervy 1 goal win (apart from QPR). So for a start I will be happy with a game we dominate and win by at least a 2 goal margin, without the need for any last minute nail-biting! I think we should be going 4-3-3 (unless the injuries force another formation). I hope Falcao will be starting this one so my formation will be:

    -----------------------De Gea-----------------------
    Rafa/Valencia---Evans/McNair----Smalling----Young
    --------Fellaini-------Carrick--------Herrera---------
    -------------Rooney-----Falcao----Di Maria-------------

Falcao will not start, I don't understand why a lot of you have him as a starter, in what world are you living?

I know we won Arsenal with it, but please not the 3-5-2, please please please LvG.
Daren't make a prediction yet because no idea who is going to be fit and who isn't.

Going for my most ambitious result of the season though with a 3-0. But if we go 3-5-2 then I won't be holding my breath for that.

Would love to see us switch back to the diamond for this one. Would be gutted if we played 4-2-3-1 like against Palace at home - playing one up front at home makes my blood boil.

If Rafael is fit then he would play instead of Valencia. Play Di Maria central and hopefully Falcao will be fit for this game. Good game for him to try and get a goal or two for confidence.

Herrera's involvement with the reserves fills me with hope that we'll see him for 30/25 mins depending on the scoreline.

Due to the long list of injuries, I expect the same line-up vs Arsenal with Young instead of Luke.

Not, If we play 3 at the back.
Weaker opponent tend to sit before launching a counter attack that could be too dangerous, our defense is more or less the same as arsenal which is vulnerable to face the counter attack.
I dont want the same result as we did against swansea.
    3pts is a must.
Swansea game was played before we bought our new players, so the comparison isn't fair.
At that time, we were playing with the likes of Evans, Cleverley and Fletcher who are woeful.

I think you are showing far too much respect to Hull.
This is the mentality which Moyes instilled in our players and fans. We were playing lesser teams as if they were the best team in the World.

Let them come to Old Trafford.
    Let them fear us.
And let them lose to us.
Rival teams need to understand that Moyes has gone and that when they come to Old Trafford, they are going to lose. If they get really lucky, they might escape with a draw.

I think our fans also need to re-learn the confident/winning mentality that we had only 18 months ago.
18 months ago we wouldnt even be thinking about a loss to Hull. And now people are worried? WTF!!!

Come on guys, we are managed by LvG for Christ sake.
We have players like Di Maria, Rooney and De Gea in our team.
Moyes has long gone. << this is the big difference
We should expect an easy win.

Maybe Evans, if he comes through reserve game tonight will start with Smalling. Herrera and Falcao to come on second half. I expect a comfortable win unlike Palace game.

    3-0 or 3-1.

I love the way last year we were all deriding both Valencia and Young, and now they're both starting out of position!

Not ideal but if Rafael and Shaw are injured we have no choice. I personally do not want to see them as starters ever but it is what it is.

I think it's safe to say a lot of players that struggled last season, are now having a new lease of life under LvG. I for one couldn't see a way out for Fellaini and Young after dismal performances last season but can't fault what they have done, when played, this season.

I don't think Herrera will start. He played 90 mins tonight for the reserves but wishful thinking I suppose. I'm sure he'll start this or the Stoke game that is a couple days later.

If Falcao & Rafael are fit and Blind, Evans, Jones, Rojo, Shaw & Lingard are out......

    Starting XI Wilson................Rooney
    ................................Mata
    ................Di Maria...............Herrera
    ...............................Carrick
    Blackett.....Smalling................McNair........Rafael
    ...............................De Gea

Bench: Lindegaard, Valencia, Fellaini, Young, Januzaj, Falcao, Van Persie

I know LVG prefers a left-footed CB and a right-footed CB in his team but i think Young as LB isn't a good idea and who else should play LB??? (James is on his way to Rotherham for a loan according to rumours)
Blackett is surely not the greatest option there but to be honest the 4 defenders should just defend (Rafael too!!!!) and players like Rooney, Di Maria, Mata, Herrera & Wilson could do enough damage against Hull

I would like to see Wilson in the starting XI too.....Falcao is probably not totally ready and Van Persie deserves a place on the bench......i think Wilson is ready for that

Fellaini was very good in the last matches but to be honest we should try to play more attacking football in the next weeks and for that we're needing players like Mata & Herrera
