Heard that our only injuries now are Di Maria, Smalling, Blind, and Shaw. They'd probably all get into our first 11, but at least the number of players out isn't too high now! I'd go for this on Sunday:

    De Gea
    Rafael Evans Rojo Young
    Carrick Fellaini
    Valencia Herrera Rooney
    Van Persie
    ---
Lindegaard; McNair; Fletcher, Januzaj, Mata; Falcao, Wilson

    Maybe Jones on the bench.

I'm guessing Falcao is nearly fit and Mata's poor performance deserves a drop so I'm going with.

    ........De Gea
    Rafael-Evans-Rojo-Young
    ---------Carrick
    --Herrera------Fellaini
    ----------Rooney
    -----RVP-------Falcao

It's amazing how much better the above squad looks compared to our current one, despite our superstar signings this summer.
That unfair, considering that most of our superstar signings are injured.

    Di Maria (injured)
    Shaw (injured)
Falcao (recovering from injury, can only play 20 minutes)
    Blind (injured)
    Rojo
    Herrera

We only have 2 match fit players, of our superstar signings.

Also that 2008 side (containing Rooney, Tevez, Ronaldo) was a strong team.
If we have all our new signings playing, our 2014 team would look VERY strong on paper.

Herrera and Mata were just too poor to keep..though Fellaini was just as bad we need his aerial presence! Give Falcao 60 minutes

You would play Fletcher over Herrera and Mata??
I dont think Herrara has fully recovered from his Ribs injury as he has looked too clumsy...I would never pick Fletcher over the Herrera from early season . and Mata has had zero influence playing behind RVP and Rooney..and no presence when dropping in the midfield....I want Rooney there.

Would like Valencia or/and Januzaj in there for some pace, we have been way too immobile/slow in our last 2 matches.

What would you do out of interest? I think my lineup is exactly how we will line up with maybe Valencia at RB and Mata/Januzaj behind the front 2.

    I expect we'll see:

    De Gea
    Evans Carrick Rojo
    Valencia Herrera Mata Fellaini Young
    Rooney RVP
With the usual interchanging of positions that we've seen during the past few games.

    I'd probably go:

De Gea; Rafael, Smalling, Sakho, Shaw; Carrick, Henderson; Di Maria, Rooney, Sterling; Sturridge.
    More than fair. Surprisingly fair.

Infact I feel bad you didnt pick more Pool players

Yea that's more how I was thinking. There's no way we'll see both Valencia and Fellaini in midfield. Especially Fellaini playing behind the strikers

    De Gea
    Rafael--Evans--Rojo--Young
    Carrick--Fellaini
    Herrera--Rooney--Januzaj
    van Persie

subs: Lindegaard, Blackett, Valencia, Fletcher, Mata, Wilson, Falcao

or Valencia/Mata in for Fellaini, shoving Herrera into the middle of the park.

    I really hope not.

Fellaini doesn't know how to play as part of the double axis. His positional play and passing game aren't up to it.

Herrera pushed wide is a waste of talents and Januzaj hasn't se the world alight this season and just isn't a good wide player.

It's got to be the diamond for me, they are poor in the centre and are going to have some very heavy legs in there. They might try to play with width but it's important we overrun them centrally with our superior midfield and we will control the game.

Mata in for Januzaj at 10 or Falcao in and Rooney at 10.

    I'd probably go:

De Gea; Rafael, Smalling, Sakho, Shaw; Carrick, Henderson; Di Maria, Rooney, Sterling; Sturridge.
Do you really think Sakho is that good? I rate Skrtel and Toure higher than I do Sakho at the moment (despite Kolo's occasional 'moments'.)

I think I'd go: De Gea, Rafael, Smalling, Jones, Moreno/Shaw; Blind, Henderson, Herrera; Sterling, Di Maria, Rooney/Sturridge.

I'm a bit undecided on Shaw and Moreno as I haven't seen enough of either. If we are going on this season then Rooney is a no brainer due to Sturridge being injured but over the last two seasons I'd go for Sturridge. I think I'd pick Rooney if I had to pick one of them only because I think he has a bit more in his locker. I don't rate Jones that highly to be honest but it's not exactly the greatest group of CB's to pick from.

Yea, the diamond is the only system we've looked comfortable in.
I would have Fellaini right, Rooney left, Carrick at the base and Herrera at the point, just to inject pace and power into the team. I would start Falcao with RVP for this, VP's work rate was phenomenal against Southampton and Falcao will win us this game.
Sadly for Mata I would bench him in order to control the midfield, we can't have Hendersons engine running us ragged.

Would pick Carrick over Blind myself, and one of your lot over Jones at the back... Very inspiring group of defenders. There isn't much between Shaw and Moreno currently probably, Shaw is better defensively, Moreno going forward, but Shaw is like 3 years younger so he gets in for me. Also Rooney is definitely ahead of Sturridge for me, despite how good Sturridge was last season. Rooney has been world class for a decade now so there's just no contest.

    So something like:
De Gea, Rafael, Smalling, ???, Shaw, Carrick, Henderson, Herrera, Sterling, Di Maria, Rooney

Henderson has been shite this season though so even with him I'm tempted to take him out.

Don't agree with Rooney at LCM and Herrera at 10. Makes no sense to swap them. Both operate better in the opposite positions.

Yeah I have noticed United's form has picked up with Carrick in the side. For some reason I just seem to rate Blind more in that role though from the times I've seen you play this season. I think in a couple of years we'll all unanimously agree that Shaw is the better of the two. Moreno has been too gung ho at times although I think Rodgers is trying to get him to hold back slightly more. It was certainly noticeable when he came on against Leicester. You could probably make a case for either of them. I agree on Rooney although I'm not sure if i'd put him in the world class bracket. I'd have him in the tier below that for sure.

On Henderson I think he has had a weaker season than last year but I think his form is linked to the teams. Last year in a flying Liverpool side spearheaded by Suarez he was excellent because he was surrounded by players playing the same high tempo, pressing game. This year because that side of our game has gone he hasn't been able to do it as often. Technically speaking I think he is quite a limited player, prone to the occasional quality through ball or goal, so he doesn't have as much to fall back on.

It's amazing to see the change from last season. If we had done a combined United/Liverpool XI before the game at Old Trafford in March then I think a few more Liverpool players would have made it in, even though a lot of the same players are available for selection now.

Yeah, it's amazing what confidence can do. Last season I really was dreading the worst and the only question pre match was by how much we'd lose by.... For this game, I have the opposite feeling if anything. A little less so now as Di Maria is injured but I'm still very confident.

I would like to see either RVP and Falcao on top with Rooney behind or RVP and Rooney on top with Januzaj behind. In defense, as usual, who ever the hell is fit.

Thank God! He'd kill Johnson or Manquillo down that left side.

I don't think I'm worried about getting hammered as I don't think you have that in you at the moment with all the injuries. I do hate this fixture though because as great as it is to win, it really is horrible to lose. I know five United fans at work and sit opposite a Chelsea fan all of which love seeing Liverpool lose, so Monday will be eventful either way.

Think it would work, Rooney will be deeper and offer protection in front of Young, it's a system that employs 'total football' anyway and all players across the front of the diamond should be interchangeable.
Herrera just gives us that injection of pace and above all trickery, there's runs Van Persie makes that are spotted by only two of our players, Carrick and Herrera, you can't shift Carrick so I would like to see Herrera behind the front, just like we did against Hull, that was easily our most dynamic performance.

I haven't seen where LvG said Falcao will play on sunday but if he really said it I think it means he'll start.
Which manager would say that a certain player will play and not start him? At our injury rate we'll have two forced substitutions by the second half so I'm sure if van Gaal said El Tigre will play he is not counting on a chance to sub him on later on in the game.
