Dull first half with us stifling it and them looking lively. United having a go 2nd half and maybe nicking it.
Yeah. The most important thing will be to concentrate and contain their pressing and "heavy metal football" (*vomits*) for the first 15-20 minutes or so, I believe.

They don't have a midweek game this week. It's us with the slight disadvantage in that regard, although I expect to see quite a few first teamers rested tonight.
It's not really a disadvantage. You're playing at home, just one day after us, in a dead rubber. Klopp will definitly rest players. It going to be more like a training sesaion for you than a game.

A few not so well known facts about our previous three games with Liverpool:

    – Young didn't play any of them as lefttback (Darmian twice, Blind once before);
    – Young played the two away games as winger;
    – We always played 4-2-3-1, except for the first half at home in 4-3-3 with Carrick coming out at half-time.

To the supporters of Pool, who I'm sure is a lot in this thread.

    How's Liverpool away form?
    1/1 Burnley 1-2 Liverpool
    22/1 Swansea 1-0 Liverpool
    30/1 Huddersfield 0-3 Liverpool
    11/2 Southampton 0-2 Liverpool
    14/2 Porto 0-5 Liverpool

Not saying anything really. Porto played right into our hand, Huddersfield and Southampton were pretty dreadful.

Please no Smalling+Lindelof CB pairing. Ideally no Young nor Valencia too, throw that back four in the bin, but realistically we don't have better options for RB, I'd still give Shaw a chance over Young at LB though

Lingard there doesn't make any sense. If he's the most advanced midfielder through the center, it's 4-2-3-1, not 4-3-3. In 4-3-3, Lingard is the right #8, with Matić in the center as #6, covering for Pogba's advances and general absentmindedness.

    How's Liverpool away form?
Our three league defeats have come away from home, and our worst performance came against Spurs at Wembley.

We’ve been decent recently, apart from Swansea.

Hopefully Martial is fit and we can play Martial,Pog,Shaw on the left.

Sanchez should be on the bench after the garbage he showed vs Palace.

No doubt he'll play the same team as against Palace though.

So much out of form players it's really tough to pick a starting 11 atm, however,

    --------------------------De Gea------------------------
    TonyV-----------Bailly-----------Smalling-----Shaw--
    --------------------------Matic-------------------------
    -----------------Lingard-------------Pogba------------
    Sanchez-------------------Lukaku-----------------Martial

I think Mata deserves to start over Sanchez but Andy Robertson will just run riot over Mata with pace and with Mane on the right flank too Tony V will definitley need the help, we really miss someone like Herrera for these kinda games!

If there was ever a game where we so vitally need to play as a team and not 11 individuals it's this game, we need to defend together and attack together or else they will exploit us so much

    I'd also add before Burnley:

    Arsenal 3-3 Liverpool
    Bournemouth 0-4 Liverpool
    Brighton 1-5 Liverpool
    Stoke 0-3 Liverpool
    West Ham 1-4 Liverpool

    Spurs 4-1 Liverpool
    Newcastle 1-1 Liverpool
    Leicester 2-3 Liverpool
    Man City 5-0 Liverpool

So as you can see many high scoring victories away from home

However In the 3 more high profile games against City Spurs and Arsenal we've been tonked in 2 of them, not great against the big guys away

Our form is arguably much better since the turn of the year though. A trip to Old Trafford will certainly put that to the test.

My bad, thanx for explaining! I'm not very good with these stuff only recently i started playing FM 18 xD.

I remember we used a formation with Lingard in a midfield 3 and thats what i wanted to type.

Which of the two formations is more defensively oriented on the wings? If let's say young starts on the left as a winger in 4-3-3 is it the same as if he starts as a LW in a 4-2-3-1?
The only difference between the two formations is 1 player either choosing a more central role and the team goes for possession or he goes higher up as an AM and we sacrifice possession for more direct play?

All of this is so confusing xD. I would somehow start Lingard,Sanchez,Rashford,Shaw,Young but i can't fit them all in ^^.

Shaw should be okay for 45 minutes, but given his condition, can he last for 90 minutes (if this is required)?
I'd start with Shaw, but look to sub him after 60 minutes.

LFC will come out all guns blazing in the first 20 odd minutes. We will need to weather that storm.
We will be poor in the first half - unfortunately this is what happens every match.
Then in the second half (after Jose gives his half time talk and tells players to start working hard), our players will come out and be more forceful.

    I think it'll either be a (0-0, 1-1) draw or a 1-0 win for either team.

    Somewhere they can't find me.
I just hope it's not wave after wave of away side attacking (like the city game) with us booting the ball upfield and lukaku chasing the ball or hanging onto it eventually to lose out. Press them, hound them but don't sit back and make it tiring to watch.

Those long balls to Lukaku are one of the most infuriating parts of our game. If I was him, I’d be fuming too. We have both attacking and midfield players perfectly capable of playing football, it’s unacceptable to see us lump it unless we’re truly desperate.

Played 14, W8 D3 L3, 34 GF, 22 GA, 27 points out of a possible 42. Losses came at Spurs, at City, at Swansea.
We adjusted our tactics after Spurs away, the defenders and midfield we had just wasn't working with the style from last year given Lallana was out and Mignolet turned to shit again. The RB usually Gomez remains tucked in, it's helped the DM out massively as there's less ground to cover and more numbers to track men.

The struggle we'll have against you is your defensive like will sit quite deep and the chances we do get will likely be saved by DDG. There's little chance of catching him off guard in this fixture.

I honestly am curious to see how it'll play out. We're a different side to last season and will likely be a different side next season albeit subtely. This and big CL games is usually the fixture that makes me the most jittery even if the quality isn't often great .

I'm going for a 3-0. I think this is the match Mourinho lets the team off the leash.

Man, yesterday's first half team had no leash on whatsoever. I don't think this team can play freely. The only time we seemed close to it was Everton away, but that was a never to return exception, apparently.

Mourinho is particularly proud to resort to it against teams that press our defense-midfield, so I'm expecting lots of it against Liverpool and even more against City. Anyhow, it's not so bad in those games, it did won us the Chelsea game (the McTominay to Lukaku long ball). The worst is when it's route one facing minor teams.

Rashford made an instant impact yesterday so I won't be surprised to see him start. In fact, I won't be surprised to see us set up similar to the way we played in the second half

    --------------------------De Gea-----------------------
    Valencia--------Smalling-----Lindelof--------Shaw
    -----------------Matic----------Pogba----------------
    Mata-------------------Sanchez-------------Rashford
    ------------------------Lukaku------------------------

But then again I also hate Pogba as a #6 and I would rather see us set up similar to how we started against Chelsea, which seemed more like a 4-4-2 diamond, so this is how I would line up

    --------------------------De Gea-----------------------
    Valencia--------Smalling-----Lindelof--------Shaw
    --------------------------Matic-----------------------
    ----------McTominay-------------Pogba-------------
    ------------------------Sanchez---------------------
    --------------Lukaku------------Rashford------------

One thing I don't understand is why Bailley has been on the bench the past few games. If he is fit then yesterday was the perfect time to get him some minutes under his belt so he could start on the weekend

Big, big mystery for me. Or he's not completely recovered and is on the bench only for lack of options (Jones, Rojo and Blind injured), or Mourinho is giving the most time possible to Lindelöf, to give him confidence, etc. But even if Lindelöf was playing great, is he better than Bailly for facing the coming games of Liverpool and Sevilla?

There's no fecking way Jose is going to trust Shaw against the best attacker in the league.

That goals against stat is impressive there. Liverpool scoring 10 goals in 5 away games is pretty impressive, but not surprising given how good they've been going forward, but conceding 2 away in 5 is good, considering it was defensive frailties that were the problem for Liverpool this season.

I mean, Liverpool's defence had been poor when we went to Anfield. I couldn't believe we didn't go at them. It was so frustrating how we didn't try to attack and go after their weaknesses.

However, now, looking at Liverpool's current form (and our own, which has been poor) I'm less confident than I was going into the Anfield fixture.

Stats can always be misleading though. Can't remember the earlier games but Porto had two excellent chances and I think Soton hit the crossbar (maybe even twice) before we took the lead. We're definitely better defensively than we were last year and in the beginning of this season, but you always need a bit of luck as well. I think the improved stability is down to a slightly different set-up by Klopp and simply better defending, less individual howlers and an improved communication. We're still some way off having a quality, cohesive defensive unit though, imo. Let's just hope Mourinho sits back and doesn't attack us.

Didn't know LFC were so good away. It's actually at Anfield where you should improve (6 draws).

That goals scored stat away is ridiculous. Better than City's by 2 goals. They concede a lot less though.

Reckon we might get done here. I'm predicting a cagey match and I suspect it'll be United 1 - 2 Liverpool.

I always put money on Liverpool winning these games anyway - it softens the blow if they do win.

Mata has to start in place of McTominay.
Mata's important but would be fine with him coming on when they're knackered, they start fast so wouldn't blame Mou for looking to frustrate with solidity in the first half then pouncing later on. Though obviously would rather the team doing what we did to Arsenal and sucker-punching them twice early on the break. Not sure this sort of game suits Smalling though, would be happier at the back if Bailly was match fit.

Long ball is meant to be one booted sky high no ? McTominay's pass was very clever, I wouldn't classify it as "long"
