ITT: people wanting us lay down to give Liverpool a win at Old Trafford, so we have an easier schedule to focus on finishing second in the league behind City.
Posts like these are worse than the i dont care about Liverpool nonsense tbf

I hope we beat these lot after the game last week. We weren't great but neither are they at the moment.

    1-0 United would be great.

Don't understand the comments about playing weaker sides or not taking the FA Cup seriously. This game is massive.

Previously I was thinking a bit of rotation, save a few players for the league games. Now, surely it’s go for the jugular, don’t allow them to regain any sort of confidence ahead of their tricky run of league fixtures.

    Ddg
    AWB Bailly Maguire Shaw
    Fred Pogba
    Whoever Bruno Rashford
    Cavani

Telles, McTominay, Martial, maybe Greenwood can come in for sheff utd.

As much as I was all for resting players, I'd love for us to knock them out and really turn the screw.

This. I want us to win. We don't need to rotate heavily as we do have a few days rest. Sure rotate two/three players but no need for a B team.

We can really de-rail their season further and hit their confidence with a win here. It also keeps us in with a chance at a big trophy.

I can't believe some people aren't bothered about this, we're playing our biggest rivals and we can prevent them getting a trophy.

Not too many changes needed. Liverpool will play their strongest possible 11. We have the luxury of being able to use a couple of backups and still have a strong bench.

I would love to give Donny a start. But Ole just won't do it.

I think some rotations will be appropriate for this game. The league is the priority.

    McTominay
    VDB

This team needs a trophy as well. It would be a huge confidence boost. As long as we're still in the FAC and YL, Ole and the team will want to win them.
No to mention, we're still top of the league.

Victor Lindelof has been struggling with a back injury in recent months, and has had to sit out five of our seven matches since pulling up at Leicester on Boxing Day.

The Sweden international did return for the 0-0 draw at Anfield in the Premier League but Ole suggested that he needed a break in midweek in order to be ready for the next instalment of English football’s most famous rivalry.

“Victor will be fine for the weekend,” Solskjaer said during his pre-match press conference, conducted after the Fulham game at Craven Cottage on Wednesday night.

“It was just too quick a turnaround we felt with the travel with his back. I wanted to play Eric [Bailly] against Fulham and Victor wasn’t ready anyway, so we now have four days extra [for Victor].

“He got some treatment [on Wednesday] and did some light training so he should be ready for the weekend.”

Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Bruno Fernandes could all feature at the Theatre of Dreams, after escaping suspensions. The trio were a booking away from a one-match ban, but all of them avoided the referee’s notebook at Craven Cottage and the amnesty has now been raised from five to 10 yellow cards.

However, they would always have been available for this tie as the rules only relate to the Premier League, rather than the domestic cups.

It looks like Brandon Williams and Phil Jones are United’s only injury concerns, and, other than Lindelof, the most pressing question in regards to team selection will be how far the boss goes in terms of rotation.

Ole hasn’t picked the same XI for two consecutive games this season, and he confirmed that he would once again mix it up.

Whether that entails two or three changes – with, for example, the likes of Lindelof, Scott McTominay and Marcus Rashford being brought back in – or the wholesale reshuffle we saw against Watford in the third round, remains to be seen.

“We’ll rotate that’s for sure, but we’ll put a decent team together of course and a team that I feel can win the game,” the manager added.

The FA Cup is not a priority, but turning the knife into Liverpool is. We can rest Bruno against Sheffield.

Absolutely not. With Vardy, VDB and Aguero out, and Pool fecking up in the league, this is the best chance we're going to have for the league in a long time.

    Henderson

    Williams
    Lindelof
    Maguire
    Telles

    McTominay
    Matic

VDB and telles need game time and rashford needs to play himself into form, so I'm hoping those 3 play. Maybe we could rest bruno and pogba or bring them on from the bench if necessary

I genuinely think that team could hurt Liverpool, and I think it's close to what we'll see.

Henderson will definitely start, as will Rashford and McTominay. Matic didn't start v Fulham and VDB is desperate for a game. Bailly I think will be rotated out/Maguire and Lindelof did well at Anfield.

James' pace is a good option, and Ole was mentioning Mata's qualities only the other day. AWB may keep his place over Williams, but I think this is close to what we'll see.

Honestly though - and I know it's never this binary - but would you rather lose this or v Sheff Utd next week? I'd happily drop out of the cup in order to keep our run in the league going.

never ever need to answer that question.
biggest rivals at home followed by the worst team in the premier league ? Mata and James on the wing with rashford who is simply not a striker?

that team would get spanked all over and in the process rejuvenate Liverpool

Dear Jesus, I know I am not exactly the best at doing the Christian thing. However, I would be very, very grateful if you can give Man Utd victory over Liverpool on Sunday by a last minute dodgy penalty. Please. Just for the meltdown.
    Amen.

Ole will go for this one. He cares. About the FA Cup. About beating Liverpool. About winning matches.

Kind of uncertain what Klopp might do now. I think he may already have tipped over the edge of football sanity, and his team has followed him over the brink. They're on tilt. Can he right the ship? Will he go for the Cup now that the league might be almost out of reach?

Alright, calm down  Maybe Williams was a call too far!

Personally though, I don't feel like this is a "normal" clash given how congested the season is. I think both managers, although not wanting to admit it, could probably do with not having this game right now.

I reckon both will play weakened sides. Liverpool's league run is insane after this, and this will be their only chance to rotate. We also have a fair few players in need of minutes in a meaningful match, and I'd like to see them play!

Do people think Klopp will go full strength for this? He's thrown the FA Cup before, and I wouldn't be surprised if he wants to streamline their efforts on just the league and CL. Either way, I hope we wipe that shit-eating veneer invested grin off his stupid face.

He rested Salah and Firmino, so we have to assume he wants to play this front 3 against us. Probably his best XI. We probably need to play a good XI as well.

Klopp rested his players Yesterday. They are going to have pretty much full first team.

Hoping VdB starts in place of Bruno.

When was the last time we won a FA cup game that was on at 5.00 ? Bad omen the kickoff time.

True enough. He'll be grasping for any sort of pedestal he can give them at the moment, they look absolutely bereft of anything half-decent. Us scoring the first goal will really test their resolve. They can't score for toffee, despite this team being apparently one of the all-time greats.

Just can’t see Liverpool not win a third game in a row.
    Any reason why?

They literally just went three without a win before facing an Aston Villa youth side. Now have failed to win a further two against 'proper teams'. They're realistically on five without a win against the usual level of opposition.

I thought the same thing I saw their lineup last night. Klopp rested both Salah and Firminho, so I think he's planning on going full-strength for this one. Ole should respond in kind by going with a similarly strong side, as the last thing we want is to give them a comfortable win and the confidence that come from that.

We need to beat them to keep the pressure on.

I'm expecting strong teams, but not full-first XIs.

I'd be amazed if Bruno and Pogba start this, and doubt DDG or Shaw will start ahead of Henderson and Telles.

It will be more interesting to see what Klopp does. He's traditionally pretty much disregarded the cups in England, but could probably use a win in one more than at any other time, but at the same time when he needs to conserve the likes of Fabinho, Mane, Robertson and Henderson.

I think this will be a better game than last week's simply because both will feel they can win it/will include players wanting to break into the first XI.

By the way - how nice is it looking forwarded to every game the way we are right now? Don't know if it's lockdown induced, but honestly am counting down the days before I get to watch us again!

Fun fact: Liverpool haven't beaten us at OT in the FA Cup since 1921.

People thinking Ole would have anything to do with us breaking that record without giving it our all need to give their head a wobble.

I don’t think he can afford a loss
Liverpool need confidence and they’ll not get it by being bounced out the cup by the team that took thier number 1 spot

Yeah, it's great being back in the mix again after so many years in the wilderness fighting for a CL spot. I won't be that disappointed even if we end the season trophyless, so long as we remain in contention and have a good go at it. That's all I ask.

    Aye, that's my worry too.

Gifting them a win on Sunday due to putting out a weakened team is something we will very likely come to regret.

We’re probably going to sit back and try and counter even if we pick our best eleven so may as well rotate heavily. Can use 5 subs so can bring on the better players for last 20-30 mins.

I want football blood on Sunday. This is our chance to KO them.
Why? I would prefer a match with all our starters rested - we have more important priorities than the cup games. I think you put too much emphasis to the opposition: it doesn’t matter that we play Liverpool, it is still merely a cup 4th round and nothing more than that.
