If we play ultra defensively at home against City, I'm gonna get pissed off. They'll for sure be the team with the most ball possession, but we can't just lay low and hope for a draw. That's not the way I like us to approach games, specially not at home games. City is pretty shaky in their defense theirselfs, so the only way can expose that, is to play offensive football and attack their weakness.

Crazy not gonna happen line up time,

    -----------------DDG--------
    TONE-SMALLING-BLIND-SHAW
    LINGARD-POGBA-HERRERA-YOUNG
    -------RASHFORD---MARTIAL-----

high energy, we press the feck out of Stones and Bravo. Big onus on the wingers to get up and down.

We need to bring our best players into the starting eleven. Martial, Mkhitaryan, Mata should be starting games. Enough of the catering for England. Also, keep Fellaini away from the team.

    Its a funny old game
I would hope that the players would feel totally ashamed and humiliated after Chelsea wiped the floor with them and that they would come out fighting and give City a hiding but I've just seen Mike Dean is ref so I'm guessing City will win with an offside goal and at least 2 United players will get red cards

Claudio Bravo will kung fu kick one of our players at a corner and still not get sent off.

I'm hoping that yesterday will turn out to be a watershed.

If JM shows the same balls on Wednesday as he has done with Rooney, then Ibrahimovic and Pogba CANNOT start - they've both been utterly and completely rubbish for the past few matches.

Is it them ? Or is it the tactics which don't suit them ? Not sure it matters, really. JM has got to start picking the best players for his tactics.

If he wants to play defensively, like at Anfield and what he wanted to do yesterday, Ibrahimovic is too old / slow / take-your-pick to spearhead fast counter-attacks, and Pogba just doesn't seem capable of defending. So it has to be fast and mobile up front, Rashford instead of Ibrahimovic, Martial instead of Lingard, with Herrera behind them instead of Pogba and Carrick in front of the back four.

If he wants to play more expansive, attacking tactics then we need Martial and Rashford as twin strikers to run at Athletic's defence, Mkhitaryan or Mata behind them, and Herrera and Carrick or Fosu-Mensah instead of Pogba and Fellaini.

    Well....I can dream can't I.....

I'm not a huge fan of the 4-4-2 diamond, but our wide players suck, so I'd like to see it with a few youth players coming in, I want to keep Pogba despite his form as he needs to learn to get used to the team/ league.

    DDG
    Valencia Smalling Tuanz Shaw
    Herrera
    Mensah Pogba
    Mkhi
    Martial Rashford

Looks good to me or it could easily switch to a 4-3-3 with Mkhi and Martial either side of Rashford.

Does this not go to ET and penalties at this stage?

I don't love the diamond because of no wingers, it relies on attacking full backs and your DM to push back into a 3 while full backs are forward, it works well in transition when done with discipline, I think with Val and Shaw we have the full backs, I love Herrera but in that role it would really limit him for me, I wouldn't mind seeing TFM play that role but he needs to improve himself positionally big time. Carrick would be a big choice for me but isn't mobile enough anymore, ideally you'd have a Martinez (Javi) for that role in my eyes, so in hindsight, I'd change Mensah and Herrera round and Martial and Rashford so that in transition again Martial would move to the left and Mikhi would go wide as another variant of the formation.

To give you come encouragement, we were awful against Southampton. And we don't do clean sheets.

Two goals for one of us and one for the other. But which way around?

France - can't win anything with Swedish turnips
Those who say they can't be bothered about this, are they the same ones who can't be bothered about the EL as well and probably not about the FA Cup either - just hope the 4-0 defeat was worth bothering about.
Anyway that's gone, onwards and upwards.
    Let's bounce back

I suspect that United may be more serious in their squad selection than City and, thus, win the game.

United will be motivated after the drubbing at the Bridge. How could they not be? Not just the players but the fans also. Difficult one to predict.

It can't get any worse can it?

    Team should be...

    ---------------De Gea---------------
    Valencia--Bailly--Smalling--Shaw
    ---------------Carrick---------------
    -------Herrera-------Pogba-------
    Mata----------Zlatan----------Martial

Subs: Romero, Blind, TFM, Fellaini, Young, Rashford, Lingard
Id be happy with that though ideally we could see Myktarin come in for Mata as we need pace.

I annoyed a lot of young girls over here because I said Mickey Mouse is a yakuza because he only has for fingers.
 Maybe that explains his mysterious absence from the line-up as well

Edit: Wait who are we talking about again?

I'm sure that Pep will play 3-4-3 again as he saw that we were pathetic twice (Watford and Chelsea) against these formation. We're clearly not prepared enough to play againts this kind of opposition.

I remember when we lost 1-6 to them, Fergie shut the door at Everton, we were pathetic in that game but won 1-0.

Need a victory at all cost.

We play Burnley at home after that so we'll rotate there.

    ----------------------------------De Gea--------------------------------
    Valencia----------------Smalling------Blind----------------------Shaw
    ----------------------------------Carrick--------------------------------
    Mata-------------------Herrera--------Pogba--------------------Martial
    -----------------------------------Ibra-----------------------------------

    ----------------------------------Aguero--------------------------------
    ----------------De Bruyne------------------Silva----------------------
    Sterling-------------Gundogan--------Fernandinho-------------Sané
    -------------------Kolarov-------Otamendi------Stones--------------
    ----------------------------------Caballero-----------------------------

Aguero will score as always againts us and we'll be beaten by their energy, speed and positioning.

We'll lament on how Ibra is useless, how Pogba is overated, and how our central defense is weak.

We won't coment on how our last 3 transfer window has been poor. When City bought the likes of De Bruyne, Gundogan, Otamendi and others, we splashed on Rojo, Darmian, Schneiderlin. Just sum up the lacks of quality despite 300M spent

These games can go either way. Anyone remember losing to Liverpool in the league under Moyes, only to knock them out of the cup just weeks later? I'm optimistic of revenge here.

    Mentally the team is shot,

Wed be lucky to get through this with keeping it to 3-0 were going to get an absolute battering and theres not a chance we win.

1- The team is physically shot - Put it down to tactics, down to poor performances but when the legs go, so does the mind. Our players were huffing and puffing from the first min on Sunday, we has played Mon-Thurs-Sun, moan about athletes all you want but the Liverpool game was physically tough, Fenerbache was demanding to push for a win and the Chelsea game was a sum of its parts we simply didnt have the legs, we rested players sure, but not the back 4 who were under the most stress in the Pool game.

2- City are looking for a response- Compounded by our terrible result and Cities poor form they will absolutely be looking for answers against us, they will turn up with a point to prove, Joses record against Pep is poor and physically we will tire quickly and not be able to cope with their movement and pressing.

3- We need to ignore this game- As tough as it sounds we need to ignore this game and result unless its a positive (extremely unlikely) we need to begin rebuilding at the Burnley game, this isnt the time to try new formations or line-ups, we need to ensure its not an entire drubbing and just be in the game at half time. If were losing quickly take of all important big players and mark it down as an unimportant league cup game. Stick some youngsters on and treat it like a friendly, Burnley is MUST WIN nevermind the mickey mouse cup.

My line up would be as followed base don our best performers so far:

    DDG
    Valencia-Smalling-Blind-Shaw
    Carrick
    Herrera-Pogba
    Mata-Martial-Rashford

Mata cutting in to be a floating No.10 as he has performed so far and Herrera and Carrick sat in screening. Pogba pushing up like he did Vs Fenerbache.

Miki needs to come on at 60 mins just to see you know...

Almost complete revamp, is my guess. Too may games in such a short space of time, and we need to beat Burnley in the league to not drop further behind. Can see this competition being given up, even if at home to City.

    Romero

    Darmian
    Blind
    Rojo
    Shaw

    Carrick
    Schnieders

    Young

Defensive or not,,we will be ass whipped by PEPs boys. Just getting myself ready for the impending doom and gloom. Will need to restock the fridge as two or three beers are not good enough to numb the pain!

Love how City who have been as bad as we have, get all the love and people tip them to beat us by a huge margin because they are just so amazingly good and results do not matter.

Will be a close game. Could go either way. I say 2-1 United.
