We're at home, we're the better team at the moment, we owe them a beating. Hope the players don't fluff their lines. Yes, it's probable that City will turn up and put in their best performance in ages but we have a point to prove as much as they do.

    Oh yawn.

This idea has been hugely overplayed this season. Our "lucky" wins have been Arsenal and Southampton away but that is more than offset by undeserved defeats against Swansea (both home and away), Southampton at Old Trafford and that ridiculous Clattenberg-inspired turnaround at Leicester. We were fortunate to get draws at West Ham and Stoke, but conversely unlucky to only draw the Spurs and Burnley away games (where we had two blatant penalties not given). We have played a poor brand of football for much of the season but the results have been about right.
The thing is? either its fans or pundits, if its city chelsea arsenal and so on, if they have any kind of form they will tell everyone this team is a good team, even if its only been about a few games, united do it, there is this stubbornness about everyone, that they will throw some kind of obstacle like we need to buy this and that, or keepers have saved us, or we have played shit. If city went to anfield in the way united played, I can guarantee everyone the experts or the fans will let us know how good they are, united do it, liverpool did not show up

Like the way Arsenal went to City and won, after that it was all about how Arsenal have "turned a corner", "became real title challengers" etc. We do it at Anfield which is always a tough place to go, win the game in a comprehensive manner and still people doubt us.

Look at the 2007/08 season, everyone would throw the spanner in our works united were a one man team without ronaldo, not to mention we had a team in their prime of VDS ferdinand vidic evra carrick scholes and giggs were still able to play many games, and we had rooney and tevez upfront. For others because they have enjoyed our laughing stock run under Moyes, I think its hard for people to realize united could be a threat for the next few season's to come. Look at charlie Nicholson, always using the same old beating the dead horse that our defense is not good enough, like chelsea city and arsenal's have great defenses.

    Classic derbies: United 4 - City 3 (September 2009)

    http://twii.edgeboss.net/download/twii/manutd/video_mufc_20150408_City09.mp4

Mike Leigh, a United fan from Warrington, recalls: "The atmosphere was just electric from start to finish. There was a sense at that time that City were beginning to assert themselves as a force in the league and that added a real edge to the game as, naturally, we wanted to put them back in their place.

"Rooney's early goal took the roof off Old Trafford and the frenetic scenes in the stands that followed only seemed to increase as the game went on. We'd become used to City arriving at our patch and proving fairly easy pickings, so to watch them constantly peg us back sent everyone into a shock. Each time we forged ahead, first through Rooney and then twice through Fletcher, you felt that it would be enough to see them off, but they kept on coming back at us.

"I was a huge admirer of Michael Owen even before he came to Old Trafford, largely down to his exploits with England, so I was delighted to see him in a United shirt. Watching him score that late winner, finishing City off in such dramatic fashion, was just incredible. I'll never forget the celebrations for that goal, sheer jubilation just engulfed the stadium. By the time things had calmed down I’d ended up on a different row from where I started, everyone was buzzing!"

    Classic derbies: City 2 - United 3 (December 2012)

    http://twii.edgeboss.net/download/twii/manutd/video_mufc_20150408_City12.mp4

John Thompson, a United fan from Preston:
"This derby typified how the season had been up until that point. We were criticised for our frailties at the back, but at the same time we were playing some fantastic attacking football and, no matter how many the opposition scored, we felt we could outscore them. Because of this I remember going into the game against City feeling quietly confident.

"We had a great first half, controlled the game and deservedly led 2-0 at half time thanks to Wayne Rooney's brace. It was a terrific performance, but at the break I found myself worried as we had the tendency to sit back once we'd established a lead. As it turned out I was right to be concerned as City took control of the game in the second half and brought the score level. It looked like we'd have to hang on for a draw, but you always knew with Ferguson's teams that we'd fight until the death and that's exactly what happened.

"When Robin's free-kick went in it was absolute pandemonium among the travelling support. I tend to judge how good a given United away end has been by how many bruises I get on my legs and they were black and blue for a few days after that! You simply can't top that feeling of beating them, especially so late in the game - it was absolutely quality."

This our chance to make the claim that we are finally back on track, not perfect but improving nicely, i'm going for a 2-1 win.

@samuelluckhurst: Unconfirmed, but told Smalling for Rojo the only change for United today from Villa win. That's how #mufc have trained this week.
Would love that. Smalling and Jones have looked solid in their few games together. I also think Jones looked better as an left sided centre back - similar to John Terry.

Don't want to see Jones in this game, he will do something stupid, but I think he will play. I hope at least Smalling doesn't get dropped, he deserves his start.

Weather is atrocious here at the minute. Hope it blows away before kick-off. It's been glorious all week.

A win would cement our CL spot and might mean that we avoid 4th spot and subsequent qualifiers against decent opposition at the very beginning of next season. We can do without that.

I've been thinking all week that this is going to end up being an awful slog. We've been doing very, very well with this new possession style of late but a derby is a derby. We can expect nerves, awful football, cards and niggle until hopefully we kick into gear and pull away from them. If form is worth anything, then that is what should happen today. Another big test of LVG but I wouldn't really want anyone else in the position at the moment, being realistic. A very good afternoon in store with a bit of luck.

We will never have a better chance of beating them as we do now, that probably means we won't though knowing us.:(

Hate playing football when it's windy. Hate playing any sport when its windy really.
Another case for a retractable roof! Football shouldn't be played in rain nor wind.

Also, the wind makes it more difficult for the sparrows to shit on the Berties.

Have to have faith and confidence in the team, especially when things are going good otherwise it'll be really depressing.

The way we're playing we'll win convincingly.

We'll go 2 up and then go to pot, concede a goal and have to ride out the last 20 minutes under a barrage of attacks.

Bad weather really wont help us, considering the way we now play. If we can't get control and possession in the match we're going to be in trouble.

Me and the lads love having a kick around when it's raining. More fun for us certainly, but I do agree that professional football shouldn't be played in rain.

Aguero will score. But we can still win. Herrera and Blind and Carrick - can see them having a stormer. Rooney and Mata upfront could harm them. I'd go with Di Maria over Young because there is always a chance he will be utterly sensational. He hasn't settled here but there are always flashes of quality.

    Let's do this!

Why is everyone so concerned about the wind? It doesn't matter if we keep the ball on the ground. It's not like we play long balls anymore.

I hope it's right about Smalling coming straight back in but I'd rather it was for Jones than Rojo.
