Well recent events make selection a little easier up front. Sancho on the right, Rashford on the left and Ronaldo down the middle. We need to start the match quickly and dominate them for as long as possible or it could get difficult.

So... Football eh. What a change in atmosphere from last weekend where some of the feel good factor was creeping back in the club, some optimism... Only for this weekend's news combined with no effort to bring in any reinforcements other than sending players out on loan at the close of the transfer window to bring us right back down to negativity. Important for us to put in a good performance so everyone can forget about the issues and move on with optimism.

    De Gea
    Dalot Varane Maguire Shaw
    Matic
    Bruno McTominay
    Sancho Ronaldo Rashford

Cavani, Fred, Telles coming back from international duty... Not sure who else is available. Maybe Elanga to start on the wing, but other than that.. a bit bare on depth.

Shouldn't Dallio and anyone else no longer part of the squad be removed from the list, although with some it will be clearer by midnight I guess.

I hope we remove all the images of him, including that one. I don’t wanna see his face.
Easy there buddy. We don't know for sure what happened.

Has anybody watched much of Shoretire this season? Any chance of him making the step up or is Hanibal ahead of him.

I think Cavani and Ronny will actually be glad The Scumbag can't play.. they might get actual service and chances created with Sancho playing regularly instead to build up that connection over a run of games. Sancho coming in and out of the team every other match does nobody any good you can't get a rhythm.. so it'll be nice to see Sancho now get a good run of games and I think we will see the best of him - it's what he needs

so for Sancho, it could turn into a blessing in disguise. And if he stars showing his Dortmund form it'll be like a new signing anyway.

I also think we could see Pogba play off the left

    something like:

    De Gea

    Telles
    Varane
    Lindelof
    Dalot

    Mcfred
    Bruno

    Pogba
    Cavani/Ronny
    Sancho

Rashford, Lingard and Elanga to come off the bench to run at tired defenders with the pace they have. Matic to come on to shore up the midfielder when we need to defend a lead.

that is our best side IMO and with Pogba on the left and Sancho on the right it's really creative and we will create loads more chances

    I’d go with…
    …………………..De Gea
    Dalot…..Varane…..Maguire….Telles
    ………………….…Fred
    ………..Bruno………….McT
    Sancho…….Ronaldo…..Rashford

With little cover in the front six bar Cavani, Elanga & Lingard realistically, I hope this 11 stays fit and gets a good run of games, using Cavani & Elanga as first rotation when needed.

Only one I’m never sure on is Telles over Shaw, Shaw is the better player but there’s just something not right with him and Telles hasn’t done anything wrong to drop him.

Some positions are real 50-50 calls. Other than that, I hope we go very strong with the line up. I always want us to take cups serious anyway, but even less of a justification to rest players coming back from a lengthy break. We also need a morale boost after the recent events - so definitely need to avoid an unnecessary upset at home to a team from a lower division.

I wouldn't be surprised if we give Lingard a start as a 'sweetener' for denying him his loan. But I'd probably use him from the bench.

    De Gea

    Dalot
    Maguire
    Varane
    Shaw

    McTominay
    Fred
    Fernandes

    Sancho
    Ronaldo
    Rashford

With, hopefully, the likes of Lingard, Elanga and Cavani to come off the bench. I assume the game comes too early for Hannibal after his international commitments. But I'd have only had him on the bench anyway.

Does it make sense to give some our fringe players or players who haven't seen as much time a run out here to get their match fitness up? I don't think we are arrogant enough we can rotate fully but we can't just play first XI like Ole did and run the players into the ground, perhaps something like:

    DDG
    AWB Jones Lindelof Shaw
    Hannibal Matic Bruno
    Sancho Ronaldo Lingard

    EDIT:

The burnley game would see us be able to use:

    DDG
    Dalot Maguire Varane Telles
    Fred Mctom Bruno
    Sancho Ronaldo Elanga

Thats quite a disturbing take on football chants, when you consider many of the other topics of chants that are presumably ok by the fans...
Most of the ones that aren't 'ok' are being routinely called out by clubs nowadays

Everything in this points to playing our strongest team and getting the job done. Make subs early if the tie is wrapped up.

Waaa...just made the rookie mistake of booking a night out on Friday without checking when we were playing!

I did that too but I explained to the wife we’re going to have to cancel our night out, she’s left me and taken the kids, the dog and the tortoise which is a shame but really looking forward to the game on Friday.

After the week we have had, really need to go with our strongest possible line up. Hopefully show some unity on the pitch, perform well and try to win the last realistic silverware on offer for us this season.

Don’t think Fred and Telles will start this game. Brazil play tonight. They’ll be ready for the burnley game. Think it’ll be

    henderson

    Dalot Varane Maguire Shaw

    Matic McT
    Bruno
    Rashford Ronaldo Sancho

If Lingard is staying we might as well make him earn his keep. Start him in this game.

To be fair we have so called strikers and have only scored three more goals in the league and they still have a game in hand. If they are in a bad way, what are we with the money spent?

Can see a horrible upset here. Boro love a cup upset. Won at City in 2015. Won at OT later the same year. They hate Ronaldo for extra motivation. They’re improving under Wilder, the same manager who caused a huge upset at OT last season. No doubt rather than the squad pulling together in the wake of the Greenwood stuff it will instead just leave a bad taste in everyone’s mouth.

    2-1 Boro.

Fred and Cavani are unlikely to play here I guess. Seeing as they won't be back till tomorrow. Makes the selection a bit more straightforward. We should be seeing Boro off even with some youngsters included.
