Why does everyone hate mctominay? He's decent
Don't think that anyone hates McTominay but he is clearly an inferior footballer to the likes of Fred and Pereira and it's questionable if he even has talent to be a United player in the future. To pick such a player in a game that we are supposed to dominate is just weird. More than weird.

That's a pretty decent team. The only baffling selection for me is McTominay. He is a nothing player, rather Fellaini than him.

I wanted Lukaku dropped, but that was more wishful thinking.

Think we will win this one. 2-0.

What's the point? honestly. What's the point? Mou scouted and signed Fred! His choice! Doesn't play the last two games. What's more, Pereira has not one, but two very good cameo's in recent history and McTominay gets the jump on him in midfield. What's the point on playing well if there's no meritocracy involved?

Perhaps Mourinho doesn't want Pogba and Fred in the same team together? I think those two are competing against each other which is absolutely mad. Too much risks for Mourinho's liking if they both play.

I like pereira, I wanted him in the team. But what’s the point pretending he didn’t have a shocker against Brighton. Most of the team did but individually pereira was dreadful.

Poor decision to start McTominay over Fred. Yes, stating the obvious but Jose is the one who is making it obvious to the world that he’s looking to get sacked. Great for Jose, but we have to deal with the calamity that he’s created for us while he goes off into the Portuguese sunset.

Well he played him last year a fair bit too. Not sure on the polictics on his selection. Now dropping Pogba might be though but he continues to be picked.
Last year we had significantly worse options for our midfield. Dropping Pogba was a strange decision, but nonetheless, the depth of the squad was very shallow (Fellaini, Matic, Herrera, Lingard and McTominay for 3 places when Pogba was out). Now we have 2 better players rotting on the bench and the likes of Herrera not even in the squad. Just because Scott is... tall?

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time
Not sure why so many are surprised with Young ahead of Dalot. Young was arguably our best player in our last premier league match, and with Valencia out Young is also next in line to captain us now.

McTominay ahead of Fellaini or Fred is more surprising, as is Martial ahead of Sanchez. The former I'm disappointed with, the latter I'm happy. Although the times we've used Martial-Lukaku-Rashford in the past we often struggle for movement. Hopefully that'll be better today.

Playing McTominay over Peirera is daft and I think now my sympathy has officially run out for Jose. I feel staggered by some of the decisions he's made in his team selections of late.

I can understand not dropping Lukaku (though I would personally) but not that.

Not trying to be contrarian but Lukaku starting upsets me a bit more than McTominay, absolute donkey this season.

If Lukaku does not get dropped after another poor performance whilst Sanchez is benched, I think that will be me done with Mourinho.

Why is McT starting ahead of Fred and Pereira??

The lack of consistency in our starting line ups is one of the biggest problems for me.

Poor McTominay. It's not his fault the manager starts him. I hope he does well somehow.

Surely we should win this game though irrespective of the starting 11?

He did play poor against Brighton, however, in the two substitute cameos that he had after that he was a very positive influence on the game. Should we not reward those kind of contributions? or at the very least build on them by keeping the momentum by letting him continue to play from the bench. Makes no sense to cut momentum at the knees and replace him with McTominay on the bench.

The only times he really started in the league where when we only had Herrera or Carrick on the bench and Pogba and Fellaini were out injured so we basically had no choice. This season we've got so many more options available.

The manager will not drop Lukaku. Did the same at Chelsea last time. Forget the player's name but Chelsea fans were crying out for him to be dropped because he was awful but Jose just kept playing him...

You have a point. He's been awful recently but always starts and always completes the full 90. It's crazy - especially when you see our other attackers subbed/dropped for much better performances. Not saying those "better performances" are great either, but still.

Young at right back. No Dalot in the squad.

Matic and McTominay in midfield, rather than Matic and one of Fred or Pereira.

Lukaku up front after his performances recently is same old Jose picking favorites. Not form, although no player have form.

Thought Newcastle would be fairly easy even for our shower of shite but Jose goes and plonks 3 NBA stars in our midfield, 1 of whom can't play well, 1 who can't run at all and the other one is too pissed off at the manager to try. Now I'm having serious concerns about whether we can actually win this one.

A fair point but who knows. There’s clearly some issue with mourinho feeling he needs two more defensive minded types beside Pogba, which wouldn’t be my idea. It’s more surprising fellaini is out rather than pereira or Fred not being in as both have blown hot and cold. Also he has two more attackminded wide players, with pogbas limited defensive input probably wanted a solid 2 in there. Maybe he thinks at the moment mctominay has a better attitude than others.

Which would indicate he is not yet ready for a starting birth.

Pereria is one of the most technically efficient players in the squad, but his positional play is beyond terrible. He still has much to learn.

    He will come good.

Was it Ivanovic? I remember him being well past it and Jose kept picking him.
Looking at that lineup makes me feel much less sorry for Mourinho, I wouldn't be surprised if others feel the same.

Everyone moaning about this or that player. It’s about the team and JM obviously knows a lot more than the posters here

Glad Pereira’s back on the bench at least, don’t get why he was pushed out. A much better footballer than McTominay.

Let’s not even mention Fred or Dalot. Can’t understand it.

Yeah it was - Jose loves running players into the ground. You only have to look at how's he's managed Matic.
