Looking forward to seeing how McTominay plays under Solskjaer’s instruction rather than Mourinho’s. He was a striker when he was younger and I think Mourinho was trying to model him in his mould. There were a few glimmers of more expansive play from him at times so I hope he’s let off the leash today.

McTominay still being a United player at age 22 still feels very odd to me. Just don't see it. Though I have never seen it with Young either and he is our captain today.

Would have liked to see at least 1 of the young reserve players start

I hope McTominay has a brilliant game, the abuse he's getting is daft. Give the lad a chance under the new boss. I've never rated him, didn't see the fuss throughout the times Jose played him, but lets see what happens.

Darmian/Jones CB pairing?! I wouldn't say I'm worried as they should be good enough for this but it looks a bit weird.

Also an inexperienced midfield, I thought he might sneak Pogba or Matic in but obviously I'm made up the latter is finally getting a rest.

Also where's Greenwood? Gutted he hasn't made it for this one lel
In some press conference Ole hinted about Darmian playing at CB and I actually am interested to see how he does because he is a good defender just lacks obvious skills like pace playing as FB. CB might suit him better.

I wonder why Angel Gomes is not in the team or bench? I would have thought he would be the first from the youth team to make the first team.

Good mixed team , for Reading it is perfect, dont get the need to throw the youngsters in straightaway, ease them in , they will get their chance.
    We will see Chong today.
Realisticly the FA Cup is our only chance of winning something this season, you have to pick a strong team.
    Exactly this.

Lots of people with fanciful expectations in here I'd say.

Why the McTominay hate? Lets give the guy a chance under a new manager.
He's seen as some sort of Mou icon. You would regularly see posts saying how all the caf favourites had to suffer when playing with him.

It's funny really, these posters scream 'yoof' over and over, but will be the first to throw them under the bus like their arch enemy Mou if they don't fancy them.

I personally look forward to any youth players in the setup. McTominay put in some performances early on against big teams that I didn't really expect, same with Tuanzebe.

Interesting team, it’s a good moment to hand out some minutes.

Funny, unless he is injured, is Fellaini that out of favor to not start a cup game? Or maybe he is leaving this January.

On the other hand, playing there alongside Jones and in a team of rusty players who haven't lined up together before could well be a recipe for calamity.

Will be interesting to see which way it goes.

McTominay got Josed. Maybe he has more in his locker than the safe route we previously saw of him, a bit more adventourous.

It’s a strange one for me. He’s a member of our squad and Solskjaer is obviously a good honest and fair bloke but he’s not getting a look in and it’s more than likely because Solskjaer sees him completely incapable of playing the game the way he wants us to play it and he’s not wrong.

Could be. I don't know whether I'd have preferred Lindelof to keep his place and get another good 90 minutes under his belt, as he's starting to impress me when he's able to play regularly, but if he needs a break that's fine too. I'm so glad Ole doesn't feel the need to start some players come hell or high water like Jose did.

Darmian at CB and Young at Fullback doesn't even fill me with confidence against a Championship side.

    Sanchez on the other hand...

It's better to have McTominay start rather than Fellaini — at least there is a possibility of him growing into a useful player over time. Not that I believe it, but there is.

Mourinho only ever picked Fellaini because he was obsessed with height. Good to see that Ole doesn't do that.

Apart from picking McTominay, that is. He's only in the team because he's tall.

    Or something.

Darmian will do alright ffs. He's a good defender. If Blind played a lot of matches for us (was a starter in CB) in Van Gaal's time, and their heights are similar, I don't see why Darmian cannot do it against Reading. We needed to rest Lindelof, and Ole didn't have any option.

Regarding McTominay, personally I prefer him to Fellaini when we're talking about a CM. At least he is a bit faster and can do forward passes. Good team for me, hopefully we see Chong and Garner in the second half and we have no injuries.

A parallel world where you can't read. Periera and McTominay are youth players that barely got a sniff this season. Chong is on the bench while Greenwood is injured.

Solskjaer said Fellaini had a sligh knock. That's probably why he's not starting.
