Bailly and Smalling would be horrendous.
Why on earth? We haven't seen them play together yet, and Bailly kind of disguises his ball playing ability due to his impressive quickness and sheer physicality.

It's clear from his post he is a Blind fanboy.

Strength and pace I agree. However, his stamina is pretty outstanding as he covered a lot of ground when he played in midfield.

Those stats don't tell a full picture though. The distance was all jogging. Watch the everton goal from season before last when he's required to run 60 yards. McCarthy (carrying the ball) leaves him standing. You can give me as many stats as you like, watch the games and judge for yourself on performance rather than numbers.

Yeah Bailly is decent on the ball. They both want to go and win everything though. I don't think they would work at all. Might be totally wrong but I see that partnership being as error prone as Smalling Jones.

Partnerships need balance. I see Smalling and Bailly as the same player.

Finding the line-up prediction incredibly tough.

    Will Smalling come in?
Is Lingard fit, and would he start if he was?
Will Pogba make his 2nd debut? Staring or from the bench?
    Mkhi???

    My guesses:
Finding the line-up prediction incredibly tough.

    Will Smalling come in? Yes.
Is Lingard fit, and would he start if he was? Yes, and yes.
Will Pogba make his 2nd debut? Staring or from the bench? Yes. Starting.
    Mkhi??? No (cause Lingard).

I think we haven't beaten them at home since 2013?! How bizarre.
I still remember that game. It was one of Pochettino's first games in charge of Southampton and they completely dominated us. I think we got out of our half once during the second half. They were brilliant. I really loved that Southampton team with Poch as their coach.

I seem to remember Fergie praising them a lot after the game, too.

Anyone noticed how Mourinho indicated last week there were no injuries and then, after the game, told us Bailly didn't train all week?

I'd rather Pogba start, and then replace him with Schneiderlin when (hopefully) we've pulled away by a goal or two.

Pogba will only be on for some minutes.
Having watched the conference myself it sounds far more likely that he'll play 60 mins. Mourinho said he'd trained more than many had for the first game and only questioned whether he would play 90 mins or at his best necessarily. He also doesn't think he will find it difficult to adapt since he's been here before.

I'm torn on whether to put him in my starting 11 or sub. If he's fit enough to play 60', I think it would be a massive boost to give him the start in front of the home crowd for the first game.
If Pogba starts, I think it will be Carrick / Pogba with Fellaini or Herrera coming on for Pogba around 60'.

Then again, it would be nice to start Carrick Fellaini with Rooney in front. At 60' bring on Pogba and Micki for Fellaini and Rooney if Micki does not start. So many possibilities. Does Jose start Pogba and Micki? :houllier:

Him saying he wont play a full 90 makes me think its more likely to play 60 minutes or so, definitely start, just get subbed off for the ovation and all that.

This is no guaranteed win, and it won't be easy regardless. If he's trained well, he should start and help us build a lead. If there's a question of his ability to play near full ability for at least 60mins, he shouldn't be starting.

I'm conflicted on whether to put Pogba in the starting line-up or not, I feel like Jose might want to bring him on for that big moment, hopefully when we have a solid lead, but at the same time if he can get 60-65 minutes in his legs that would be valuable.

With Lingard, Pogba and likely Smalling all back in the squad the bench for tomorrow is going to be interesting.

Rojo, Schneiderlin and Depay to drop out?

Well if Lingard isn't playing I think Mkhitaryan will probably start. If not him then Rashford. Not that Mata deserves to lose his place or anything, I just think the width and pace would be more useful against a team so exposed on the flanks.

Yes, you're right. And Lingard might not be completely recovered. Also, I got the feeling Mkhitaryan coming to the right-wing might be one of the adjustments Mourinho talked about for playing Pogba in a midfield two. Someone has to put a defensive shift if Rooney keeps playing.

I also reckon Pogba will start. He'll have had almost two full weeks of training behind him and his fitness was never in doubt. Maybe not full game but 60-70 is a possibility.

I just love how the silly LVG philosophy rules don't apply anymore. Under LVG Pogba would probably not even feature on the bench and would have played vs Leicester on Monday

As much as I'd love to see Pogba start tomorrow - is anyone psyched for the game regardless? Mourinho has brought a swagger back already, I feel we can give teams a right battering if we click. That just would not have happened under LvG.
