It's interesting taking a look at this. It's a decent side, but highlights our lack of pace and power across the team. No real pace or power from the right. I really actually rate Blind as a player.. I don't see him as a defender, rather a ball playing midfielder. It's a shame he hasn't the opportunity to play that Carrick type role. He isn't a ball winner (Matic, Pogs..) but I always feel that we do not get the best out of him under Mourinho. He's an offensive player with a glorious left-foot, and an eye for a pass or shot. Where has all that gone?

I just want us to begin to play with a sense of balance, and an attacking strategy which takes the pressure off of our defensive players. De Gea is STILL our best player in many games, this isn't right at all. The fact that Mourinho just doesn't bother with attacking as a game-plan ( rather than just hope that Deco, or Pogba, or Ronaldo, or Snjeider etc makes things happen, and buy an expensive No 9..) is now putting pressure on him, frustrating the fans, and is putting pressure on our team on match days.
It looks as though we are targeting a right sided attacker in the winter window. I think Mkhi could do well there but he needs to find some form and Mou needs to play him there. I do not understand why this hasn't at least been tried given how well he did there for Dortmund.

I also have always felt Blind to be a MF. After Carrick he's the next best passer of the ball in the entire squad yet Mou doesn't seem to value him at all. A real shame.

Have to admit, for games where we expect to have the lion's share of possession, like tomorrow, I do struggle to see what the game plan is.

Some youngsters like Gribbin, Gomes, Ro-Shaun Willians, Mitchell, etc were involved in training ahead of this match. And with a of just one day for the trip to Everton, I would like to see few of them getting involved in match day.
Interesting. I have hopes for all 4 of those lads and would love to see them get game time. Can't see Williams getting minutes ahead of Tuanzebe though.

I guess you missed the first half against Bristol.

Would love to see us go to a 4-3-3. We look way to static in a 4-2-3-1, and Pogba is way to pigeonholed.

After Mou's press conference, do you think tomorrow he will bench Lukaku?

Just hope we'll get the 3 points, can't imagine the meltdown if we don't win tomorrow.

Unfortunately, I expect another 2-2 draw or a similar score.

When we lose the little momentum the team possesses, it takes time to recover and our play becomes even more static and riddled with errors.

    Ffs.
    In that case:
    De gea
    Young Jones Lindelof Blind
    Matic Pogba
    Mata Lingard Mkhitaryan
    Lukaku
Tempted to start Herrera ahead of matic to give him a rest. We play away to Everton in like 2 days so need to keep them fresh.

I did actually. I had the shits.

EDIT: Seriously, very harsh to criticise him when those were his first minutes there in I don't know how long. Maybe if he was allowed some consistent game time there we would see more consistent performances.

You're missing a very important point and that passing isn't everything you want from your midfielder.

I want to see a big win here. Southampton have been awful recently. Time to go back to our standard 4-0 wins from the beginning of the season. They seem a long time ago already.

I don't trust our defence without Valencia and Smalling and we're weaker in attack without Martial and Fellaini. Difficult to see us getting 6 points from these two games.

Can't wait for this, really hope we let the frustration of our bad streak out on them and thrash them 5-0.

I don't think I at all missed that other skills are required of a midfielder but I would say distribution of the ball is pretty high on the list. Tackling isn't everything you want from a defender but it's pretty fecking key.

We are due a win really, don't see any problems. Everton away two days later I don't feel great about though. Could be a typical plucky Big Sam win.

As a DMF, positioning, tacking and movement are far far important and Blind shows every time he plays in this position that he is lacking these attributes. He can't play as a midfielder because he can pass nicely while the opponents are getting past our midfield with ease.

Fair point but I would say he's pretty good positionally. Has to be as he has no real pace. You can still use him there if his skillset is complemented by someone like Matic to provide that balance. Anyway, this isn't a Daley Blind thread...

Not looking forward to seeing the score this evening. Can't see anything but a home win but, we've have done fairly well up there lately!
Just hope my rugby team give me something to cheer at Twickenham this afternoon!

Would take 4 points from the next 2 games if offered. Horrible time of the season to hit a slump with the barrage of games you face.

If we managed 6 it would go a way to rectifying the last two results. 10 from 12 would have been people's realistic and hopeful aim. 8 is now the best possible. Less than that and it's been a disaster over what in the glory days was when we came alive

We seem to beat Southampton yet they usually look the better side. Quite odd.

I think this will be a draw. Just to throw all that out of the window.

I predicted this team except Lindelof for Rojo. Same scoreline too :)
I like to predict less than impressive results so I don't jinx things

Think he might actually rest lukaku with return to goodison in two days

    Except we really didn't

Regularly dropped points over xmas many times
    I remember Birmingham away draw
    Stoke away draw

There are so many games everyone should expect to drop something

It pisses me off when people reminisce like this, like we never lost a game under fergie and we won every game 4-0
