I dont know why people are complaining about not having Falcao in the team yesterday.. He would have been shitty in midfield anyways..
Coming soon - Falcao at left back. Because we want to play total football don't you know...

Really poor. Was at the game and was screaming at the sideways passing!

Let's bring in 4-3-3 or diamond 4-4-2 please!

LVG has always been a 4-3-3 man?

Not anymore.. He used 3-5-2 at the WC and made it to 3rd. He wants to prove to the world that it was not a fluke.
He will make Utd the best 3-5-2 team in the world

This is the first time I've started questioning LvG if I'm honest. I let the early slip-ups go because of his CV, but right now what he's achieved in the past is irrelevant, to not register a single shot on target with these available players is almost funny, if someone had have told me that before the match I would have literally laughed at them.

I'm with everyone else though, I do think if he starts using a 4-4-2 diamond or 4-3-3 we'll start winning again, but how many poor performances is it going to take before he starts to think of trying this for real? It was only a few weeks after this point last year that journos started circulating rumors of Moyes' sacking, will be interesting to see what they're saying this year.

One thing about this though, maybe van Persie's injury (I'd never call a player getting injured a good thing btw) will force him to give Falcao another chance.

Not sure how anyone can bemoan a lack of bite in a game where we dominated possession and barely conceded a chance to the opposition.

The major issue was a lack of creativity - I don't think the system helped us, but all of our major creative outlets had poor games. I'm at a loss as to how such a talented cast of players (on paper) can look so tumescent - it's an old problem rearing its head: barring a couple of exceptions, a number of our players are technically deficient when it matters - poor first touch, final ball, etc.
Dominating possession means feck all when you dont have even a shot at the goal. By the way you cant compare us technically with Southampton, we are miles ahead of them quality- and technique-wise. However, Southampton looked better than us as a team. Their team work was brilliant. Their defending was perfect, and again Wanyama and Schneiderlin looked much better than Carrick.

Not sure how a valid comparison can be made between the Saints duo and Carrick - they sat in and sought to frustrate, while we had all of the ball.

You don't need to tell me that Southampton look more cohesive - I made a thread about it months ago asking why LvG's methods are taking ages to bear fruit, yet Koeman has had such an instant impact. Got moaned at for it.

This is something that has always bothered me, people comparing points totals in different seasons. It means feck all. If our competition was more consistent this season, then we would almost definitely be more consistent as well.

Look at United between 2010 and 2012. In 09/10, we got 85 points, in 10/11 we got 80 points, in 11/12 we got 89 points. The one year we won the title was in 10/11 when we got 80 points, and we won it by 9 points, and we got to the champions league final that season. Are you going to say that we were worse that season then the year before and year after because we got 5 and 9 points less over the course of the season?
Maybe all those years were under SAF as a boss so we didn't care about how many points per season cos at worst case scenario we would be finishing second best, but this era has gone now and with DM we saw a poor new United from champions to seventh so comparing this year's to the last IMO it's because we are afraid to finish again outside the top four while we spent around 150m more than the previous season. LVG needs to come down to earth and stop talking about his philosophy because it's so obvious when playing 3-5-2 system we are as bad as last season. With all the attacking players we've got and still no combination and not enough creating chances at all so I think LVG needs to react about before its too late yet again.
