I thought Fellaini did a lot of good work in midfield hastling Lucas into submission. Wouldn't be at all surprised to see him in the team for Saturday.

He managed to pin down their most creative player Lucas.

I think he's hoing to drop Herrera and play Fellaini higher up.

When was the last time the top 3 scores predicted were all wins without a single loss in the top 5?

I want to see Januzaj, but not holding my breath.

I too am optimistic for this game - I think we can win ... the first time I have expected a win, in a long time.

With regards to playing Januzaj? Why are people so exciting to see this guy?
He was a bench warmer at Dortmund. He is a bench warmer at MUFC - he certainly isn't currently good enough to play for us and I think LVG also feels this way (which is why he sent him away, in the first place).

The performance no.... The result yes. Just feel a little more optimistic that we will go on a good run of results.
Ok, fair play. IMHO we were equally as shit as in the last 8 games. We had 1 shot on target and Pool tore our defence apart at times. Soton also recorded a good win last weekend so you know...i would not count mu chickens yet.

He played really well in the last under 21s game. So people are a little excited to see what he can offer for the team. Most of us really hope he'll build on that.

I'm hoping for a below-par Southampton (as United need all the help they can get) because some of their players are unsettled by transfer talk.

Long, Wanyama, Mane, Pelle etc...will all have a chance of moving on pretty soon (or in the next couple of years) so we have to hope some of them are not quite on the ball.

As for our own team, well, it's a toss up between average and downright comatose. I'll take average as long as three points are in the bag. It's all that matters now. Performances are unlikely to improve drastically under this manager.

Our right flank has been a pretty useless outlet at creating chances all season, there's a slim hope that he'll actually run at the opposing fullback, beat him and hit a few decent crosses so we have some sort of a threat. In a Wenger-sense he's like a new signing so there's a bit of excitement.

    ---------Rooney
    ---Martial Mata Januzaj
    -----BFS Schneiderlin
    BWJ Blind Smalling Darmian
    ---------De Gea

I would go with this team. Januzaj has much more technical ability than Lingard so I would throw him in, I think only his mental attitude that is hindering him and he proved with a constant run of games playing wide (right or left) as he did in 2013-14 season that he can be a very dangerous player for us. Herrera has been shite for a while now so I'd be happy to see BFS come back in and Mata play in the hole. Borthwick Jackson has been very impressive for such an inexperienced player so would like to see him play more often as opposed to the injured but quite frankly rubbish Young.

    1-0 or 2-1

Whatever happened to Physio Room? It used to be a fairly reliable source of information regarding absent players, but currently lists only Schweinsteiger, Jones and Powell for United. No mention of Shaw, Valencia, Rojo, Carrick, Young.

    Fair enough. Good argument.

But I am struggling to believe that Januzaj (a bench warmer for Dortmund, with lack of match practise), is the answer to our problems.
Under Moyes, Januzaj was one of our better players, but since LVG took over, Januzaj has been clearly marginalized, so I can't see him getting many chances to play and will likely be sold in the Summer (if LVG stays).

I struggle to see how anyone, Januzaj included, will be the answer under LVG. Our present manager has had a unique ability to bring out the worst in all of our attacking players, and I'm not convinced anyone bar Messi would look good in our present side.

Who should play the number 10 position?

Mata has obviously been dreadful nearly every time he has played there and Herrera has been poor recently. Rooney with two of Januzaj/Depay/Lingard on the wings?

We need a new 10, full stop.

    Realistic dream?

    De Gea
    Darmian Smalling Laporte Shaw
    Herrera Schneiderlin Blind
    Greizmann Rooney Martial

Remember, realistic. I don't see Rooney going anywhere anytime soon and I don't see him being dropped as a long-term sub for Martial. And no Messi, Neymar, Muller, Ronaldo and Bale. Two names whom I'm looking at are Laporte and Greizmann. Both are very realistic.

Laporte to relieve Blind of a job well done, but an upgrade is required. Greizmann can slot right into a 4231 or can play up front right in a 433. When injuries hit the depth - and they always do -- of the squad would be right where we want it to be. Jones/Rojo/Valencia/Varela for depth on the back line; Schweinsteiger and maybe another central midfielder to replace Carrick; Memphis, Pereira, Young and Januzaj for depth and flexibility wide. We'd still be light on pure strikers but I'd rather put my eggs in the creator/scorer basket (Greizmann) rather than in the pure striker basket (say, Cavani).

As for Mata, I love the little guy but I think he needs to move back to Spain to get the best out of him. I'm not sure Lingard has what it will take to be a long-term success at United.

    Must win. Big game.

    0-1 Soton.
This game is at home and Southampton aren't particularly good.
We seem to have come out of that terrible December (relegation) form.
Why do you think we will lose?

think van gaal will spring a surprise and start januzaj as number 10. herrera has been poor over the last 2 games which makes choosing januzaj in the line up easier.

I'm surprised this only has 2 pages. I'd say this could be the defining match to show how the rest of the season is going to pan out

I am of the opinion that wins breed confidence. Yes it isn't the style we would prefer, but for these players gaining confidence and getting results is the priority.

I feel moderately more optimistic going into this game than I did going into Liverpool, but I am not letting myself invest too much hope in us proving we have turned a corner, I am fully prepared for a repeat of the complete shambles we have seen repeatedly in the last few months.

I just dont know what team is going to turn up. The team that can pass the ball around reasonably comfortably, even if they dont do anything much with it? The team that looks like a high school U16 B team and runs about the place looking a bit bewildered, but at least with the intention of scoring a goal? The team that can attack or the team that can defend? Dare I hope we took some confidence out of the Liverpool result and will go up a gear, achieving some level of competence in both departments? No, I darent.

I went with 0-0 in the predictions but in truth I have no idea, it could just as easily be 0-0, 1-0 or 0-1, my prediction would be for one of those, I am sure the Newcastle game was an aeration we will not be seeing again anytime soon.
