They're playing Madrid today and apparently don't get back till Thursday. Isn't that madness? Even tried to get the game pushed back 24hrs. We should be much fresher than them come Saturday.
Trying to push a PL game back 24h because they play a friendly 2 days earlier must be the dumbest shit I ever heard.

We'll probably walk this, Mata to score a couple and hopefully Rooney to build some confidence because he's been shit all year.

Close enough for a match day thread. I am giddy!

    Hopefully:

    De Gea
    Darmian Smalling Jones Shaw
    Carrick Schnederlin
    Januzaj Herrera Depay
    Rooney
would be my opening line-up too.

    Maybe Mata for Januzaj

1-1 Dull and boring. Perennial back-passes and severely lacking penetration and/or creativity. With continued forcing of square pegs into round holes from LVG. United just aren't very exciting these days and after watching pre-season I don't expect much different Saturday unless the likes of Pereira/Lingard/Januzaj feature heavily, which they probably won't.

I hope to god I'm proven wrong and I'm being nothing but a dull, moaning cnut.

Finally the season starts. I hope pre season was just Van Gaal trying stuff out in games that don't matter and we'll actually see this:

    -----------------DDG-----------------
    Darmien---Jones---Smalling--Shaw
    ---------Carrick---Schneiderlin------
    ----Mata------Herrera------Memphis
    ----------------Rooney---------------

Hope we start off strongly here. Spurs haven't really done much in the window so far, and Lloris might be out for them.
3-1 United is my guess. I would prefer Jones over Blind and Herrera in midfield but it won't happen. Rooney and Memphis x2 the goalscorers.

    De Gea
    Darmian Smalling Blind Shaw
    Carrick Schneiderlin
    Mata Memphis Young
    Rooney

    Finaly!!

I think we go like this :
    ---------------DeGea----------------
    Darmian--Smalling--Blind--Shaw
    -------Carrick-------Morgan-------
    Mata---------Mephmis--------Young
    ---------------Rooney--------------

Bastian comming in in the second half for Carrick and Januzaj replacing Memphis.
Hope to see Herrera too, but i am not sure he will play.

We are going to smash them. 4-0.

I have a feeling we will see both Herrera and Smalling in the starting line up while Schweinsteiger and Memphis will come on as a sub.

    DDG
    Darmian - Smalling - Blind - Shaw
    Carrick - Schneiderlin
    Mata - Herrera - Young
    Rooney

We'll win but it won't be straightforward. We're usually shite at early kick offs.

Just judging from the pre-season selections. I hope I'm wrong though.

Anyone else think Pereira could start this one?
LVG always talks like form is the most important thing and he arguably had the best tour of anyone playing in the front four positions.

We're gonna start this season with an explosion. 5-1 United. This is our 06-07.

Either that or a slow boring 1-1.

Im expecting a dull 1-1 affair.

@Lawman hope both of you enjoy the day.
Hey Sunny I have a nervous feeling about this one also. Hope we get an early goal and go from there. Think we have made some very shrewd signings though. I just hope Herrera and Smalling both start.

The wait is finally (almost) over! Will be a tough match to start with, but hopefully we can grab all the 3 points! Will be interesting to see what line-up we'll go for aswell, but I think the formation will be a 4-3-3 at least.

I'm honest here- If I were in your shoes, I mean if I was taking my son to his first game at OT the football side of this experience wouldn't really matter that much. I guess it will be one of the best memories for both you.

I too hope our best CB and most creative CM play ;)

Can't wait for the game. Haven't been to OT for ages. Hopefully the atmosphere will be electric.

What I really want to see

    DDG
    Darmian - Smalling - Rojo - Shaw
    Carrick
    Herrera - Schweinsteiger
    Mata --------------------- Memphis
    Rooney

What I think we will see

    DDG
    Darmian - Jones - Blind - Shaw
    Mata - Carrick - Schneiderlin - Young
    Memphis
    Rooney

I think either team will get the win but I think a close 2-1 if the second team is played.

I really hope so. Herrera is just too good to be benched imo and he really offers something different that both Carrick and Schneiderlin . I also prefer Smalling over Jones, but not 100 % sure of how Blind will do as a CB against the top teams tbh. I'd prefer a fit Rojo over him but since he's not there yet I guess Blind will play until then.

    Seems bizarre.

Fearing a draw, but hoping for a win. Think we might be in big trouble if Blind starts.

    1-1 bore draw.

Blind at CB is suicide aswell as Not playing mata and Depay in the positions they're most effective.

If LVG gets his team right we will win, if he messes about (which he will) then it'll cost us.

1-1 or 0-0 draw. Don't really see us breaking down Tottenham on the very first day while introducing new players to the premier league and LVG messing about with the positions of multiple players (Blind at CB, Depay CAM etc).

I reckon it takes us atleast 3 games to get into the groove of things with this new set up.

If Van Gaal sticks with Jones and Blind at CB and Carrick and Schweinsteiger CM then I can't see us winning tbh, I'm sure Pochettino will be telling Kane to pull onto Blind at every chance he gets and with the energy of that Spurs team pressing Carrick and Basti could prove troublesome. Positive is that Spurs are apparently playing two games this week before Saturday and Pochettino's already said their players won't be 100% and that he's tried to have the game moved to Sunday. If we play a normal line up i.e. Carrick and Schneiderlin and Smalling/Jones we'll be fine but don't see that happening. Reckon it'll be a draw. 1-1 (Memphis, Kane)

I've gone for 3-1 at the moment I'm looking at the same lineup that started the PSG game but that could all change if we bring in new players in the next few days. Could hopefully change things to a 433 with Pedro Rooney Memphis up front and Ander at the tip of a forward facing triangle in midfield.

God I'm gagging for this match the closed season just seemed endless. Come On!

2-1. United dominate possession and territory but ship plenty of chances through slack defending and complacency in midfield. Mata, Depay and Chadli score.

    I see a 3-1 Utd win.
Pochettino's high line is huge risk when execute by Spurs defence, they're simply not good enough and they lack a fast CB that could help when they screw up. Even Fellaini took advantage of it last season.

I say an early MU goal and Kane scoring a good goal late in the game.

Please play Darmian. I think if i see Valencia then it's no exaggeration to say i probably am going to kill someone.

Spurs were pretty shit today, and have another game tomorrow (?).

Don't mess with the formation too much and we'll do them.
