Very nervy finish to the game. Looked a bit like we ran out of legs near the end.

Overall a rather average game from United, were really I thought we were second best for large periods of the match. Fair few positives though from the match. Our new boys overall looked good. Just need to actually create chances now, as again we lacked anything real threat going forward.

Just watched the last 30 minutes but based on that I couldn't tell if United is managed by Van Gaal or Roberto Mancini.

So happy! Will take a win anyway we get it!
Romero understandably nervous but did better than expected.

And that's why it was so odd to see Jones ahead of smalling in pre season. Smalling was immense and along with Darmian made sure Spurs didn't do much.

Job done, but aside from Smalling, Darmian and Romero I think everyone was a bit off the pace.
I think the heat took it's toll eventually. It must have been hot down at pitch level. Not sure they could have done with some more pre-season minutes.

Thank goodness. Decent game and 3 big points against a top 6 side.

Do you actually read this forum?, Rooney gets more hate than anyone on here BY FAR.
Yes I do. And no he doesn't. Every week everyone has a pop at Young or Fellaini no matter how well they play, whole Rooney gets away with murder.

Agreed. Still really strong of us to get all the 3 goals against a team like Spurs. But of course lots of things we have to improve! Don't think our attack look that strong tbh, a Pedro in there would really strenghten us alot. Wilson doesn't look ready yet and not so sure about Chicha either.

They do say build from the back, give Smalling a proper partner and our defense/midfield combo is excellent. Now time to bring in a heavy hitter to give us some forward bite.

The possession is great but why do we do so little with it. Honestly its got to be Depay on the wings and Herrera/Schweinsteiger as the 3rd midfielder. We could do with Pedro too because Mata just doesn't provide much pace on the right.

I get that we need to start with a solid defence but we really should have scored more than 1 goal against this spurs side.

Encouraging from our midfield though. Morgan Schneiderlin and Carrick were terrific. Just controlled the game. Bastian came on and played a few nice passes too. We've finally sorted that area out. In fact we probably have too many players in central midfield now.

That's just not true. Rooney has been raked over the coals for the last year or so (not altogether undeserved, but still.)

A couple of thoughts. Wayne Rooney needs to give up taking frees. He's not good enough. When Valencia came on Spurs targeted him and got a lot of joy on that side. We didn't react fast enough.

But these were the kinds of games we would have conceded a late goal in early last season and the season before. At least we are up and running.

Too passive, side to side slow build up.

Herrera in midfield instead of Carrick or Schneiderlin.

Depay out wide and Mata in central.

    Proper CB in over Blind.

Then we might start gelling a little more.

I know this is first game of the season(hell he might even score 50 goals this season after all) and all that but this is also Kane`s second game vs us and if we gonna pay 40+ mil. for that then i fear for prices when new HG rule hits PL.

That second half was poor...at least the first half, you have a sense of United being in control.

He's so not worth £40M... we're crazy. Must be someone else out there we can get for that money?

No complaints everyone played well enough. Not sure about romero and still think Herrera should be starting also think that Memphis should be swapped over with Mata.
Very impressed with all our new outfield signings particularly darmian what a bargain he was.

Schweinsteiger hasn't looked as sharp as Carrick. I'm not criticizing him, but I don't know why we made that change.
United lost control of the game the moment Carrick walked off the pitch..but Bastian need the games to get his rhythm.

People criticise Rooney because it's entirely justified.

By stature, talent, previous form/proven ability, reputation, wage etc etc he under performs.

We're not expecting him to do a Messi and collect the ball deep and beat 1-3 people and open up the opposition.

We understand the formation probably doesn't suit him but we TOTALLY expect him to have a good touch and link up play constructively and not slow it down. Look at the goal ffs, he controlled it well but a player of his experience should know he won't be afford time in that situation.

On the flip side look at Depay, who sort of played in similar positions etc. He wasn't effective but he had nice touches and was a willing receiver of the ball and always tried to positive.

I thought Romero had a fabulous match. Sure he had a couple off kicks, but his reading off the line impressed me.

Well, yes... but Smalling has been great all game. It's not like Romero has offered any heroics. He kept 2 shots out that he's supposed to keep out. Smalling was tremendous, Darmian as well.
Yep I'd probably put him as 3rd best player.

A bit of a disappointing performance but put in the context of it being the first game of the season and that we were playing with four new signings, including a keeper that hadn't had a pre season, I don't think we were that bad.

Romero - A bit shaky at start but grew into the game and made a couple of decent saves at the end.
Darmian -. His contribution to the game was apparent when he was subbed off.
    Smalling - Imperious.
Blind - Wasn't tested enough, did alright but his lack of physicality is going to be an issue going forward.
Shaw - Solid, looked pretty good on the overlap
Carrick - Didn't even notice he was on the pitch till the goal. Started taking control of the game after that
Schneiderlin - Promising. Gave the ball away a couple of times but won it back for us loads of times.
Young - Ran a lot but was second best to Walker most of the game. Not his best performance in a red shirt.
Memphis - Always looking to drive forward with the ball. Have high hopes for him after this game.
Mata - Looked better drifting in than on the wing. Not the best performance but did alright.
Rooney - Looked very rusty. He always seems to take a few games to get into the swing of things so not too worried yet.

    Subs
Schweinsteiger - Tidy with the ball and always looking to dictate the play. Nice little cameo appearance.
Herrera - Did well enough although didn't have enough time to grow into the game and impose his will.
Valencia - Immediately looked poor on the right hand side when he came on.

Decent performance. Encouraging from everyone. Schweini and Valencia looked off colour after coming on and hopefully will improve.

Romero was very good. Came well off the line, passed well, even made very good saves. Nothing on de gea of course but he isn't a bad no.2 at all.

The full backs were magnificent and has to be one of the best in the country (hopefully they don't become shit from here on). Smalling was wonderful and Blind actually had a good game today. Intelligent CB play by him.

Carrick was wonderful in midfield. He and Schneiderlin gave no space for passes. Schneiderlin tackled hard when needed but looked a little nervous understandably playing in OT for the first time. Hopefully gets better

Memphis looked encouraging. Had wonderful runs got into those pockets between bentaleb and Dier and reminded me of how I felt on Ronaldo s debut (which was the first ever United game I saw).

Mata young and Rooney weren't exactly the best and hopefully gets better. But mata did well defensively couple of times and young did defensive work really well. It didn't help him walker decided to have a wonderful defensive game today(bar the goal) Ben Davies found it hard to deal with mata. Rooney had few chances but looked better than preseason to be honest and hopefully gets better with te games

Brilliant result, people are talking like Spurs should be a pushover or something.
