With Pereira spending last year on loan there, surely he's got to be at least on the bench. I mean, it makes sense right? He's spent a year on loan getting used to the Spanish league, playing against these particular players all the time in training. But he seems completely out of the picture at the moment.

Christ, actually scheduled me Tuesday off to watch this...a month ago. What a waste of PTO hours. Doesn't even feel good that I am getting paid to watch such drek.

I get a feeling that any other manager would have Pereira as a regular starter. Not saying he's great, I'm a bit unsure about him, but he's at least very mobile and attack minded - another manager would have him in there instead of Matic or Fellaini, providing more fluidity and creativity.

One of the biggest issues is not having a striker who can score a goal. Lukaku is missing chance after chance and the team are going down, as a result.
IMO, Jose needs to bench Lukaku, if only to keep his job. If he keeps playing Lukaku, we'll keep losing/drawing and Jose will be sacked.

    True.
But I think Perriera is too attack minded.

Let's look at yesterday's match. we conceded 3 goals. You cannot expect any team to win a match, when they are conceding 3 goals.
Perreira is not the player who can help our defence, concede less. Our defenders are terrible and with this in mind, Jose wanted to buy a new CB (which he was denied). Jose is now using 1-2 DM, every single game, as he has now trust in his defenders.

if we could attack properly it would put other teams on the backfoot, and they wouldnt be scoring 3 goals against us.

Could pereira not play right wing for us. Or at least be given a chance there. If fecking mctomminay can be played in defence like

    Grant
    Dalot Bailey Jones Young
    Mctominay
    Andreas Fred
    Sanchez Rashford Martial

Would be happy especially with that front three. Whatever team goes out, we will 100% play horrendous and 60% lose.

The game is part of what feels like a two-leg playoff to get the 2nd spot in the group behind Juventus. Both teams are not in great form and with Valencia seeming at least solid defensively and the way we approach games, I could see a stalemate as they'd probably be happy with a draw at Old Trafford.

A significant reason we are conceding so much at the moment is because we are completely useless on the ball. This impacts us two ways. Firstly, we are pretty much unable to keep hold of the ball so the opposition have far too much possession. West Ham was a good example - any time they really went at us we couldn't do anything but put our foot through the ball and give it straight back to them. And secondly, the opposition have no fear of us when we have the ball as they know all we can do is pass it slowly around with very little threat, so they are happy to attack us without keeping too many people back.

Shh it's a secret only other clubs are allowed to know. Are you trying to get us all killed.

While we're at it, let's get Dalot involved, our fullbacks upfield, tuck our talented wide forwards in closer to goal, get our excellent(?) fitness coaches to prepare the players to run teams to death, solid gold toilets for everyone on the caf who wants one, and peace in the middle east.

We lost solely because we put 0 pressure on West Ham. We played a back 8 and invited attack after attack, whilst offering no attacking threat.

Agree, I like Lukaku but his misfiring is constantly costing up points. He’s getting enough chances so its hardly the team creativity to blame for his form.

I’d like to see this as an experiment:

    Rashford....Martial.....Mata/Lingard
    ...............Sanchez..........
    .....Matic/Fred..........Pogba

Yep. If our full backs can push up high, and players like Lingard, Fred and Rashford can press from the 1st minute, we may have a little success.

So much of our problem in recent games is that we're unable to get near the opposition when they're on the ball. I know a lot of that is down to attitude too.

I'm probably being delusional though! Very nervous.

We can only wish this formation starts. The team conceded 3 goals to West ham, he should start Bailly and Rojo. They were abit rash together last season, but they formed a good partnership.
It seems the 2 Belguims are undroppable at the moment so they’re bound to start. Fellaini plays brilliant as sweeper and the team press higher knowing he’s behind them. The minute he goes uptop we go to shit and play the tired long diagonal.

Now we just need to persuade the fa, uefa and fifa to allow us to field 12 players

Four Manchester United players miss training
Ashley Young, Jesse Lingard, Ander Herrera and Marcos Rojo all sat out training at Carrington this morning ahead of United’s Champions League clash against Valencia.

Ahead of that humiliating defeat at West Ham, Jose Mourinho said he had a 24-man squad to choose from with Rojo still on the sidelines and Romero suspended.

Young started at the London Stadium, Herrera was on the bench and Lingard was not in the match day squad. Mourinho will be asked why at his press conference at 2pm.

Our problem is that we don't press in the final third of the pitch.
I think that Jose has told our players to conserve energy, for a counter attack. This would be fine if we knew how to counter attack, but our attackers are so bad right now, they wouldn't be able to score in a 1v1 situation with the GK.
At least if we press the opponent (though tiring), we would stand a good chance of getting the ball back, in the final third and resuming an attack. Instead, we lose the ball in the final third, stand back, while the ball arrives in our third of the pitch, where we proceed to defend with last ditch attempts.

Jose needs to tell the players to press like their lives depend upon it. Just stop the opponent as quickly as possible.

    At The Lowry

The following players were photographed at The Lowry for tomorrow's game. De Gea wasn't spotted but there is nothing to suggest he won't be playing tomorrow.

Goalkeepers (2): Sergio Romero, Lee Grant
Defenders (8): Antonio Valencia, Victor Lindelof, Chris Smalling, Luke Shaw, Matteo Darmian, Diogo Dalot, Phil Jones, Eric Bailly
Midfielders (6): Fred, Scott McTominay, Marouane Fellaini, Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba, Andreas Pereira
Forwards (5): Alexis Sanchez, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Romelu Lukaku, Juan Mata

Lingard, Herrera, Rojo and Young all miss the game due to injury or fitness issues.

I suppose he is going to play Sanchez and then say, "there, I played him now, what do you think about that then?"
If we're playing a front three then, after Mourinho's press conference I think it'll be Sanchez Lukaku Rashford. Sanchez seems to get many consecutive games then no matter how bad he does he still starts (until last weekend), whereas if Rashford or Martial have a bad/imperfect performance they're out the following week.

tbh, I expect Sanchez to start anyway.

Lukaku needs to play through this lean spell.
