Martial would be one of the last players I'd bring back in, play him over Rashford or Memphis in current form? No way

Hope Smalling is back for Carrick though
Agreed. Martial is the new Rooney! ;)

Would definitely put him on the bench. Why change a winning team. Hes young and has played a lot. Give him a rest. Rashford deserves another start.

Riley or CBJ at LB. Same team otherwise for me.

I'm a little concerned that valencia is coming back. Would rather lingard and varela on the right to him.

Hopefully Smalling is fit for this one and I wouldn't change the midfield pairing, I think Herrera and Schneiderlin both benefit from not having to do their partners running. I agree that Lingard looks knackered as well, maybe rest him and give Januzaj a start.

Only concern with this would be Januzaj not tracking back and helping Varela.

Januzaj needs more game time but at the minute I don't think he deserves a starting spot. Hopefully we ease him in like yesterday and see how he does. Varela must start for me. Martial too when he's fit.

Wouldn't change too much myself. Martial will only benefit from an extended rest, maybe play him off the bench. If Smalling is fit I would start him, and if Rojo is out I would play Rilley. our schedule in March is intense and we need to look after our players

Januzaj for Lingard is the only change I'd make, and either Riley or Fosu Mensah for Rojo if he's injured. I'd like to see more of Riley if so. He's got a lot of pace and looks comfortable running at his opposite number.

We should be able to do this without Martial, so I'd keep Rashford going up top. If he felt a tight hamstring less than a week ago, then it'd be wise to keep him out until West Brom away, which will be a tougher game.

I'd like to remind people that the next couple of games are against teams that like to defend deep and be very "Organised", the kind of teams that we have been struggling against all season. We will not have the spaces we had against Arsenal. I just don't want people to get extra optimistic.

68% of people think we're going to keep a clean sheet. We're not keeping a clean sheet with this current defence.

Does anyone know when/if Van Gaal is having his press conference?

Please let Smalling and Martial be back for this one.

It's important people aren't blind sided by Sunday and think this team is suddenly going to smash everyone.
They did very well on Sunday, and there's a lot of promise there, but we need those big guns back asap.

Watford will be better organised defensively than Arsenal but with the confidence we should have we have to win. Lets get a run together for once. Early goals will help.

absolutely no chance does valencia walk into a starting role. he should never take lingard's/any other right winger's position either as he's as useful as a donkey in a crowded subway. he's third choice right back now.

Varela deserves to start more than Valencia and Darmian- he's shown a great attacking side and a good defensive side. This is a better balance than both Valencia and Darmian who only excelled at one at a time.

The team should be unchanged aside from the addition of Smalling. No one deserves to be dropped- if it aint broke dont fix it.

This is going to be hard with Watford sitting deep and Deeney/Ighalo trying to bully our already weak defense.

Lingard really needs a rest. I really love him in our team though, he knows when to cut in and when to stick being a winger

    Ddg
Varela smalling (if fit) blind rojo
    Perrira Schneiderlin
    MMM
    Rashford

Preferably would have lingard in and martial up front but I'd rather we give the kid a third run up there so he can finally have his shitty game so we can get over the ridiculous hype and not worry about the 'what if' if we benched him for this game.

This will be a match where I think Rashford will struggle. Watford will sit deep and try and counter attack. But I'm here hoping that he will keep that goalscoring form up.

    De Gea
    Varela--Smalling--Blind--Fosu-Mensah
    Schneiderlin--Herrera
    Martial--Mata--Memphis
    Rashford

If Smalling isn't fit then start Carrick again & Lingard in for Martial if he isn't fit.

I'm with you on the line up, I'd like to see this providing Smalling and Martial are fit and I'd maybe have Rojo in for Mensah if he's fit, not sure about the score though, this is going to be a tough game I reckon, they're pretty strong defensively, I think we'll win but it'll be tight.

    They are showing Liverpool/City.
Same here in Finland. I realize dippers vs bitters is a big game but why don't they rather televise the match of in form, youth driven, goal scoring, gung ho ManUtd than those two knackered teams playing each other once again.

Aren't televised matched decided weeks in advance? Of course they're going to leave out boring United given our form throughout the most of winter. No chance United at home to Watford would get shown over Liverpool vs City anyway

People are getting carried away. If Martial is fit, he must start, simply because he is far and away our best attacking player. He's not amongst the players whose place is 'up for grabs' at the moment. Munir could score a hat-trick, Messi walks back in when fit, as he's the best player.

That said, if I had to choose between either Martial or Smalling returning for this one, I'd pick Big Mike all day.

Get Smalling back in if possible. Ighalo and Deeney are a handful, and could prove to be too physical for Carrick and Blind. Smalling will give us the strength needed to neutralize, both Deeney and Ighalo. Other that that, I'd say same team.

    I'd like to see

    ------------Rashford
    Memphis-----Mata------Martial
    -------Herrera --- Carrick
    Rojo-----Blind---Smalling----Verala

TFM for Rojo in not fit.

Anyone else not upset with the absence of Rooney?

They'll surely be a much bigger threat attacking wise than Arsenal, with neither of their strikers afraid of mixing it with opposition defenders. Could get messy if it is Carrick and Blind back there again.

Can see this being a score draw. Smalling being available is key for me.

This, but with Schneiderlin for Carrick.

I reckon you drop Rashford for this if Martial's fully fit. As amazingly as he's done, and as odd as it sounds to drop anyone after four goals in two games, he does leave holes in the game plan that aren't there with Martial. We haven't been able to lift balls forward at all: most of the time against Arsenal he didn't even try to compete for aerial balls, just let Gabriel or Koscielny have them. That's not a criticism - of course he can't compete for those yet, soaking wet he probably weighs about half as much as Gabriel! But Martial's hold up play from aerial balls is impeccable, and has been a big part of some of our best games this season. We flirted with losing control of the midfield against Arsenal during several patches of the game because Blind and Carrick didn't have that outlet when pressed, and long balls, however accurate, were just going straight back to Arsenal.

Yes, Rashford is already offering more than goals. In both games, he's produced one or two great runs past or behind defenders. But Martial's done at least that in most games he's played for us too, whilst also offering a more complete striking performance than Rashford is ready to give yet. Rashford scored good goals but they were created by an attack that is finally coming to life. Martial has scored a fair few of his goals virtually single-handedly for a more stagnant side. Put him into the attack that Rashford has benefitted from and we'll keep getting goals out of it, but with a more complete striking performance too.

Let the lad enjoy his success from the sidelines for a game or two, take the heat out of the hype, then throw him back on again against Liverpool or West Ham. Martial will be all the more dangerous for knowing that a player with a 2:1 goals to games ratio is waiting in the wings if he doesn't shine.

tl;dr: Rashford's done brilliantly, but it's too soon for him to lead the line regularly. Martial's the stronger option, and both players will benefit from Martial coming back in for the next game.
