Pogba forces the team forward like none of our other players do. He has been extremely important in the improvement of build up play we have seen this season. I hate to think where we would be standing in the league without his presence in the midfield. He'll be missed tonight and I expect a more evenly contested game than Sunday.
    Agreed!

pathetic anyone wants Schweinsteiger to play in this game..a guy who totally crapped all over us since he came and yet fans want more of it .

I'd rather we play Mensah in the middle or any of of the youth players

If he's proved himself during training sessions to Mourinho, I don't see the harm in starting or subbing him in for a low priority Cup match.

Crapped all over us , how and when.
OK so he decided to stay and not go, hardly crapping all over us,never said a bad word against the club.
I dont think he is what we need , but if Jose wantsto play him , I am happy for that.

I'd rather prefer Schneiderlin over Schweinsteiger as starter tbh. Schweinsteiger hasn't played for god how long and this isn't the game to get players in shape really..

He has done nothing to show he cares anything about the shirt since he arrived... All he was interested in last season was being fit for the world cup which he was despite not making an effort to play for us since January and never looking even half fit before that and jet around watching his missus play tennis.

I was excited when we signed him but his attitude was shocking and I really can't see how any utd fans can look past that... the guy took us for a ride .. Theres a reason other players complained about him and how he treated the club ..puts on his nice guy act and people here fall for it when he was just a cvnt out for himself

It's not really that he has been better than the others, but I dont think the others can bring what he brings. That creativity, skill to physically beat opponents, dribble last opponents, passes over the top are things which help us a lot im creating chances and getting to the final third.
As much as I agree, he does remind me of the golfer who always wants to get his sand wedge and playing fancy flop shots onto the green when a nice little chip and run is the better percentage decision. He's effective with a chipped pass into the box, but boy does he go to that well far too often.

Absolutely NAIL ON THE HEAD, this clamouring for him to play is pathetic he basically had a little holiday with us whilst he shacked up and got comfortable with his missus.

Not to mention when he did play he looked slow to react, off the pace and completely underwhelming for the hype, lets not forget he was performing for Germany at the same time and he did not give a crap about United. He uses his stature in the game and popularity to leverage his own agenda. If you compare someone like Rooney who has done more for the club in his little finger than Bastian then it really strikes me as favouritism.

Trust me I wanted him to be the incredibly midfield general we always needed but the reality is he is simply too injury prone, not committed and too slow to be of any use to us at all. He should be sold in Jan and we should be giving oppertunities to Fosu-Mensah or Schniederlin.

Quite contrary. Carrick was out with an injury for the weekend so he won't be risking him in this cup with the more important Tottenham game on Saturday considering how better we play when Carrick is around.
I'm not so sure Mourinho is that aware of how better United plays with Carrick on the side.

If LVG had stayed, Schweinsteiger would have been an ever present this year, as he was going to feck Carrick off and use Schweinsteiger in his place...

You can see at the FA Cup final that Carrick was close to tears and knew it was likely his last game...

I am sure he does , the problem is he is 35 and has this and maybe once more season in him.
He cant play week in week out.
No, that's what Mourinho's been saying all along as an excuse, cause Carrick could have been used much much more than he was.

    Amidst squeaky bums.
Carrick will surely play tonight (especially given Pogba and Fellaini's absences; maybe removed after 70/75 mins) and at the weekend. He played consecutive 90s against Arsenal and Feyenoord and won't be as crucial against Zorya next week, so it makes sense.

Carrick was underused at first, but lately Mourinho seems to have been using him a fair bit more. I think he'll continue to use Carrick through the season, albeit not twice a week.

I think the bench is more likely, as I suspect Jose is playing a first XI and Carrick will play.

My worry is if Mkhi will play today or not, and if he plays well, will be play again on Saturday or not. Jose needs to sort out this problem fast. It's getting quite irritating to see such a talented player benched.

We should have the measure of West Ham now. So 2-1 which will mean a draw.

We dont know what is going on behind the sceens , Mkhi might be happy with the chances he is getting , now he is fit again.

Aren't we playing on Sunday not Saturday. In any case I think he will definitely start, not a high pressure game really, but him getting minutes will only help his cause, and I doubt he will have such a bad performance, think the Man City game was just once off and unfortunately it effected him badly and probably dented his confidence, but his adapted and will surely rise to the top as the best always do.

    Lol.
Read somewhere they cancelled replays and adopted penalties, maybe it was fa cup. But I do remember us going out on penalties. Didn't realise it was last season.
Yep. Last season we went out to Championship side: Middlesborough.
And the previous season, was it the mighty MK Dons?

Will we have a minute's silence before this game, or will that wait until the weekend fixtures in the PL?

I was beginning to think that I was the only one who was thinking this.
The "legendary" status gets tiresome. He was a legend for Germany/Bayern - not for us. Bayern would never play him in his current shape, so why should we?
This is not a retirement home and even if we do sign a mature player, he needs to play/compete for a place and deliver results.

Rooney is a legend (for us) and I find it perplexing that Bastian seems to get more love from this forum, than Rooney. Even though Rooney has done so much for us, while Bastian has done nothing, of note.

I honestly don't get the way people here feel about him .. You would think we have a at his peak Schweinsteiger who is bursting his guts to pay for us but we are keeping him of the team for no reason at all .

Wasn't just Donald Trump fooling people he was the answer to everything this year ..Bastian has done an even better job on redcafe

This schweinsteiger and caring about the shirt is a hit and miss topic.

He was Bayern through and through, he can't care about our shirt the same way. A footballer is, or should be, a professional. That doesn't mean caring about the shirt, but doing what you're paid to do. Not everyone who wears the shirt loves us. Let's face it.

Let's see how right or wrong the M.E.N. is this time.

It’s that time again. Another team has leaked and here are the possible (must stress it’s not confirmed) runners and riders:

De Gea, Valencia, Jones, Rojo, Shaw, Carrick Herrera, Mkhitaryan, Rooney, Martial, Ibrahimovic.

The majority of that XI should be correct. It’s a crowdpleasing line-up, despite the patent omission of Mata. Mkhitaryan really made 4-2-3-1 tick against Feyenoord last week but might start tonight on the right flank - if the above line-up is correct - with Rooney behind Ibrahimovic. Carrick has become a totem for Mourinho and Herrera is essential. Matteo Darmian’s demotion might upset only his girlfriend.

I'd be more than happy with that line up.

I know it's only a league cup game, but getting this teams confidence levels up and our strikers scoring is more important than anything right now.

There was me thinking that someone who sees Carrick in training five days a week and has access to the medical team who monitor his fitness/recovery might be in a better position to judge Carrick's physical capabilities than a random internet poster. You should inform the club of your supernatural abilities, we can save a fortune on sports science.
