Ole played decent amount of youngster last year. Amad, Elanga Shoretire all played a bit.
Not much though and only in meaningless games. I think Shoretire only played like 20 minutes or something for example.
To play an entire 11in a cup game because you want the first team to rest is not giving the youngsters a chance and that’s what Klopp do most of the time. So he can say he played youngsters and he has an excuse if he lose.
I don't think anyone says that Ole should play 11 youngsters and that's not really what Klopp does either, does he? He played two, three youngsters yesterday and they won 3-0 away to a PL team. I've no idea if he will sell them or not, neither do you. He has played Elliott regularly at first-team level though and I'm pretty sure they do not look to sell him anytime soon.
Now if you look at us, we play youngsters that have a real chance to make it here and who are ready or almost ready. That way you play less youngsters but if they do it they will stay probably all their career here. It was always like that for United. If you are good enough you are old enough. But I don’t see the point to play youngsters only to play them.
You could argue that some of them are good enough. Are Hannibal worse than Daniel James was or is Elanga worse than Mata? You also have to look at squad building for the future. Does it benefit the team more long-term if you play Elanga instead of Mata? I would say yes. Does it benefit the team more short-term if you play Mata instead of Elanga? I'm honestly not sure. In my world, Elanga should be played before Mata and there are other examples too. That's where we differ and it's probably a visionary thing and I also think it's a little about bravery. As a Man United manager, you have to take risks, I don't like to compare to Sir Alex but he was a risktaker.
Ole play less now as we have a better team and he needs to give game time to everyone. And honestly I don’t know why is that a problem. The youngsters should earn it not the other way round. The bests of the lot will find a way to make it, the rest will find another club after a very good formation here.
Everyone like a lad from the rank to make it but we should not force it. A lot were very hyped about and finally after many chances showed nothing.
Yes, I understand that and that's how I see it too. He wants to make everyone happy but he also holds on to players for too long. I think Mata is one of them and Lee Grant another. How do you suppose they earn the chance? Doing well in training? We obviously can't discuss that as we don't know that, what we can discuss is what we see when they're playing. We have some serious talents in Hannibal, who I - and many others too - are pretty sure would've played in other teams. Is Hannibal less of a talent than any of the kids Liverpool or City used yesterday? No way. I think there is a risk here, a risk that didn't exist before and that is player power. You could be patient with Paul Scholes because there was no risk he would leave, but players today demand playing time and have no patience. We lost Pogba on a free transfer because of this and then bought him back for £80m.
Also, youth players need to play. Elanga and Hannibal are far too good for U23-level, and Elanga has barely played there this season because of it. It's resulting in him barely playing any football at all. I'm not sure that's a good strategy for development. If you keep Elanga and don't loan him out - then you have to give him opportunities. Otherwise it's pointless.
