We don't need a midfield 3 against Newcastle, usual 4231 will do the trick.

Just seen that they have the worst home record in the league with 3 wins, 4 draws and 6 losses in 13 games (13 points). Scored 11, conceded 15.

Really should be winning this, but it'll probably be a drab and frustrating 1-0 or 2-0 win.

Let us just hope that Voldemort doesn't butcher one of our players.

Guaranteed that he will have it in for Sanchez.

As long as Lingard plays then we should be fine and dandy.

A 2-0 victory away from home would never be frustrating though. Unless you score in the 89th and 93rd minute of course

St James is never an easy place to go for us.
    These lot will game raise.

    Never???

I could have sworn that I have seen us go there and rack up the goals in previous seasons??!

Ideally I'd like us to stick 3 in midfield against these lot, you can just tell they'll try flooding the midfield, maybe go for Pogba, Matic and McTominay.

Hopefully you are still intending on playing Lingard in this team of yours!

Probably would try him on the right for a game, I feel he'd be given a fair amount of leeway to drift inside from the wing, I think Martial could do with another game off and pop Sanchez in his position.

That said I wouldn't really mind who started where regarding the attack, with Sanchez here we need to do a bit of tinkering to see what works.

Rather him from the bench and to play a front 3 of Martial, Lukaku, Sanchez; with an extra man in midfield.

Lingard has been good, but it' only because he was so poor previously that people have taken notice.

He hasn't even been our best performer since Xmas, that's been Martial.

Wouldn't mind that front 3 if we didn't put Martial on the right, didn't think he looked too up for it when he came of the bench against Huddersfield though.

Never might be an exaggeration but the last comfortable victory there was under Moyes.

I think Lingard has been better, though in the last few EPL games, he hasn't been fantastic.
IMO, he needs to score another solo Messie-esque goal, which would have Martial in awe of the skill on display. :p

That 3-3 there under LvG was a nightmare. Newcastle fancy themselves as our rivals of sorts, going to be a tricky game.

You don't get the best out of Lingard by starting him on the bench!
Yup get the best out of him by starting him in the first eleven!

He is a must start player these days, so I fail to see how not starting him is to either his benefit or the teams!

It should be very comfortable on paper. Newcastle aren't the same force they were under Pardew. I'm going for 0-3 win for United.
Same line-up but just one change. Lingard for Mctominay. Rashford absolutely must play CF but it doesn't look like anybody can take Lukaku's place under Jose. 0-3 is my guess too.

I agree there, Lingard should be starting this match.

Eh? Why? Rashford's looked off the boil for ages now and when he has played CF a few times recently, he wasn't good.

That's ridiculous that u think that. He has just played in that position once and i think he did pretty good. He is a natural striker and deserves to play there. With due time i think he can become a very good player. He's a total Man Utd kind striker (Sir Alex kind) but certainly not the Jose kind.

Since the next game is at Fa cup followed by CL, I can see Young starter here, Shaw against Huddersfield then Young again against Seville.

    De Gea
    Valencia - Jones - Smalling - Young
    Matic - Pogba
    Mata - Lingard - Sanchez
    Lukaku

Can't think about a different lineup here, maybe Rojo can get involved but that's it.

Along with some other posters I've got a sneaking suspicion McTominay starts in a midfield three.

No room for Lingard either, which suits me down to the ground! Only joking RedRom

Would like to see someone score a hat-trick. No-one's done it for us in the league since RVP in 2013.

Can't believe this was 15 years ago, where do all the years go ?

Good stuff. Remember that O’Shea run and shot like it was yesterday, he was on fire down that left wing that season. That Scholes strike too, few hit a ball that cleanly.

He was, kept waiting for him to be found out at left-back but he was flying, and ten days after his performance at St James' Park he nutmegged Luis Figo in the QF of the Champions League

4-2-3-1 is like Kryptonite, I hope we leave McTominay in to form a 3 man midfield, then it's either Martial, Mata or Lingard with Jose's two investments in the front 3.

We have had very good games 90% of the times we used 4-2-3-1. I don't get why people are suddenly worried about it. It has gradually edged out 4-3-3 among elite teams in world football.
