I agree but Rojo plays LB for Argentina and Blind's partnership with Smalling has been solid.
Blind just does more for me at LB attacking wise and Rojo was pretty good last season with Smalling, each to their own i guess :)

It's the attacking side that is a worry. Blind is a lot better going forward at LB than Rojo. Also I think we could link with Memphis pretty well.

Southampton aren't up to much this season. Still, our away form has had me very unconvinced for some time now.

Can see us scraping a win but wouldn't be atall surprised to see us draw. A win here would be great for us.

If he doesn't play, I don't think its a case of "dropping" him - I'm sure Schweisteiger was brought here to rotate with Carrick and I'm sure we'll see that throughout this season, so that both stay fresh and (hopefully) fit. Both are excellent players.
Before he arrived I would have agreed with you, however having seen the Liverpool game and PSV game yesterday, Schweinsteiger has shown that he's two or three levels above Carrick and anyone else in our midfield. I'm aware that he has had injury difficulties over the last few seasons but he currently looks as fit as ever and back so near top form. At 31 he's not this old crock that needs a rest every other week and therefore when fit he should be playing in all our big games no ifs or buts. Carrick will still play a large role this year but there is no way schweinsteiger should be out the team at this moment.

You may well have a point! I hope you're right - he's class!

    DDG

    Darmian Mike Rojo Blind

    *Carrick Schneiderlin

    Mata Herrera Young

    Martial

    * If Basti is feeling good though then I'd prefer him to start instead of Carrick.

Other 2 subs would be Memphis(he could do with a rest) and not Fellaini.

    I predicted a 2-1 defeat. :(

It sucks for me to say this, but IMO whatever formation, whatever players we play in this game, we will lose.
We are terrible in away games. This was the case last year and this year, we are continuing the same trend. Absolutely nothing has changed.
Southampton to win this with 1 or 2 goals - we won't score.

My prediction: Southampton 1-0 Man Utd

    I hope I'm wrong.

I love Mata but he needs to be dropped for this one. I've not been impressed with him at all in the last two matches.

Rooney is utter crap but he needs to play even if he is 50/50.

    De Gea

    Smalling
    Rojo
    Darmian
    Blind

    Schneiderlin
    Herrera
    Young

    Assuming Rooney ,still out.

    Dave
    Darmian - Smalling - Blind - Young
    Carrick
    Schweinsteiger - Schneiderlein
    Mata - Martial - Memphis

    Is what I'd play.
Interesting, I would be tempted to replace Matta with young and scramble between blind and Rojo at left back.

I think young would be more in tandem/ synch with M&M's rhythm and he did well on the right last night

I think with one of the line ups posted by Bwuk there is enough of an attacking lineup on the right flank and the middle as a possibility

We have played our best football without Rooney but I would take him over Falafel

    I'd play:

    De Gea
    Darmian - Smalling - Rojo - Blind
    Schneiderlin - Carrick
    Young - Rooney - Memphis
    Martial

If Rooney's still out, then I'd replace him with Herrera or Mata.

need to hit back strongly here, to set up momentum for a triple home game run.

I fear for us when we go a goal down, as you don't ever really feel too confident.

Schneiderlin needs to come in for certain, hopefully Rooney too.
The rest, obviously with someone in for Shaw should remain similar.

I hope LvG keeps the Smalling/Blind partnership in tact and plays Rojo at LB. Memphis/Martial/Mata I think will start, it's just a question of whether Rooney is fit enough to, if not then Herrera at #10.

The big question is who he goes with for the midfield double pivot. Carrick and Schneiderlin seems logical but after the other night I wonder if he will want Schnweinsteiger's leadership in there.

    -Darmian Mike Blind Rojo

    --Carrick Schneiderlin

    -Young Rooney Depay

    --------Martial

I would play Rojo left back. We went to crap against PSV with Blind at LB, if Rojo can play that position and get to major finals for Argentina he can play left back for us. The partnership with Smalling and Blind is looking good so why change and disrupt it now.
I would drop Mata after his abysmal display and play Young (both he and Depay can alternate wings) then bring Rooney in for Herrera if fit. Would not play BFS in this game as this will be our most difficult game this season imo so I would go with a shield infront of the back four and Morgan should be fired up against his former club. Would take a draw now to be honest. RvP seemed to love this fixture but he is gone of course. Hopefully we can take our chances or this could possibly be another Swansea result.

I think we'll lose this one, Southampton are exactly the sort of side that will enjoy playing against our current team. I reckon 2-0 Southampton.

Yeah, can't see us beating them, either. Although, I think they're kinda crap themselves. It'll be a bore draw, I reckon.

Shaw is going to be a massive loss for us in attack and defense. I'd go Rojo at LB just to keep that Smalling----Blind partnership together. We could do with as little disruption as possible right now.

    ------------DDG-------------
    Darmian--Smalling--Blind--Rojo
    ---------Schneiderlin---------
    ----Herrera---Schweinsteiger-
    Mata--Rooney/Martial--Memphis

I'd switch back to the 3 man midfield and make sure we dominate the center of the park. Will allow Herrera to bomb forward with those late runs he likes so much.

Smalling and Blind have been so good, keep them together. Put Rojo out there.

If Rooney is fit, I'd put him through the middle and start Ander on the wing. Mata was horrible last game and Young wasn't much better. Or give Andreas/Wilson a run out, which isn't happening.

Southampton haven't been brilliant this term so I'm hoping we take the game to them. Rojo at left back for me with Blind taking up the centre back slot alongside Smalling. To me they compliment each other much better.

I think Schweinsteiger probably needs a rest, he played his first full 90 minutes of the season against Swansea, followed by 90 minutes against Poland, then Scotland, Liverpool and PSV. That's five full games in the space of 15 days, he needs protecting somewhat while Carrick is also fit.

Presuming Rooney and Jones are still unavailable, I'd change formation slightly for the Southampton game. They are less likely to sit back with numbers behind the ball, particularly at home, so I think a pacey front 3 could be effective on the counter, while a deeper midfield gives us more legs around Carrick.

Can't wait to get that PSV game out of the system. Southampton have been a tough team to go away to for a while, I would say a loss there as well but for their own poor form, so predicting a 2-2.

Is Rooney back for this game does anyone know?

    @worldinmotion66

That's a horrible team, Darmian is new and performing well at RB, why put him at LB? I think Schwein may need a rest too, but from their performances Memphis looks more tired to me. I'd not want to see 3 deep midfield positions against Southampton either.
