United move up into second after a thrilling 3:2 win at St. Mary's.

It didn't look good in the first 30 minutes as Pelle and Mane wrecked havoc for Southampton. Pelle netted the opening goal after 12 minutes and the home side could easily have scored a couple more.

United clawed their way back into it and equalised through Martial. They were well on top after that and the Frenchman struck again in the second-half to put United in front.

Southampton fought back and De Gea made a wonder save to deny Fonte and that proved crucial as Mata made it 3:1 to put United in control. But they nearly let it slip as Pelle scored again to set up a nervous final 10 minutes. De Gea had to make a few more saves to secure the three points.

Manchester City are only two points ahead now...

We were very good. Apart from the first 20 minutes and the last few, when we were battered...

I hope those that were so "embarrassed" at United for paying so much for an unknown continue to feel like that.

Maybe United's scouts know more than the RedCafe football geniuses

What a fecking game. Never in doubt ;) Southamton started well but Martial turned the tide. Subs did well IMO, Valencia looking confident again and McNair did alright.

Bad performance, De gea and Martial played well, that's it. Clinical but boring.

United's weekend!

2-3 away win with 10 men.

Positives:
Martial
De Gea

Negatives:
Wayne Rooney. Time for the bench, sale, retirement. Pick any.

Not sure how I feel. One clear offside goal, one gifted to us, and one goal that we crafted for ourselves.

Looked like we would allow Soton to put the game beyond us in the first half, but then we got on top of things and started looking like we would have a word, but then comes the end and we refuse to do anything but punt it forward and hope that the clock runs out.

Doesn't stuff me with confidence... but I'll be taking it.

Martial's first two PL matches are what dreams are made of!

Excellent performance after about 30 minutes. Loved the 3rd goal - philosophy

Good win. Southampton played well but lacked quality so I don't really feel for them or anything.

Difference was De Gea and Martial. Excellent keeper and the coolest finisher on the pitch.

LVG's reluctance to drop Rooney is really starting to hurt us though. Should have put loads past Southampton if Rooney wasn't stifling so much of our attacking play.

Huge game, considering we always feck it up when our rivals drop points, we did so well to get a win.

2nd now!

Phew. They make it so bloody difficult for themselves .Some gifts and good play from Martial won that along with DDG bailing us out again.

The defending was crap.

Fully deserved. Shite 1st 30mins but totally dominated it till the 85th.

Martial is awesome. The composure he showed

Rooney looks done. Piss poor today. Should not be starting just because of his name.

Young should start over Memphis.

I am going to try and predict a few things.

We will dominate possession (and LVG will claim we dominated the game).

We will keep the ball in the final third of the pitch, for most of the match.

Southampton will park the bus and let us have possession.

Southampton will aim to hit on the break.

We will lose or at best, get a draw.

Most fans on this forum, are predicting a win for us, but logic, past form, statistics all suggest that we will come away with 0 or 1 point.
You managed to get most of that wrong. :D

Obviously still lots to work on but any side that comes away from St. Marys with 3 points this year will do so very happily indeed. Tough game but I thought there were some really good performances in there and in the second half in particular, we looked much more dangerous going forward than we have yet this season.

Highlights were Martial and Valencia for me. Smalling was good again and Schneiderlin grew into the game well. Schweini was class when he came on and De Gea made 2 or 3 great saves. Good day out.

Gave my motm to de Gea, but wouldn't begrudge Martial getting it. Started bad, ended bad, very good in between. Result is what counts, that was a must win game.

Well i said i wouldn't moan if we won BUT how we seem to cave in when anything goes against us, i'm just not used to it with this club.
Cowardly and weak mentally, but we won so.

I would drop Rooney based on that performance. Herrera behind Martial with Mata and Depay flanking would be lovely.
