although he new he was going to draw a pen, so maybe a soft one.
Otherwise known as diving, throwing yourself on the ground when you feel any kind of contact so it looks like you were brought down.

The second "non-pen" would have been very harsh, Bruno didn't dive but he was, ahem, over-optimistic that it would be awarded, so VAR got that right.
Correct decision was made in the end there, as I said. The ref tried to feck it all up which was bizarre how he saw that as a penalty to begin with.

Mmmm ... all the reaction from football commentators and former players has been that it was a penalty, by the usual interpretation of contact in the box - as opposed to a deliberate dive to mislead the ref. My own view from watching it a few times is that is was a penalty (that is, there was enough contact to bring him down) and we have a ref and VAR to judge if it was a dive according to the rules of the game. But I can see how, morally, if you like, it was a "dive", in the sense that many players make these exaggerated falls to make sure they get the pen. When I was playing many years ago (at a much, much lower level!), it wouldn't have been a pen.

Took me a few days to come on here, but reading through the posts has prompted me to reply.

Fred has took an absolute battering here and on the player performance thread and it's a bit unwarranted for me. He was no better or no worse than a lot of our players.

It was a winnable game, Spurs we're not that great and ultimately it was our own poor performance that cost us the game.

Every player was rusty and every player made mistakes.

The defending for Spurs goal was catastrophic and made me cringe to watch. Rusty or not, the way he went past Maguire was far too easy. Maguire, our defensive rock simply got made to look a mug there. And we all know De Gea should save it, so all in all probably the easiest goal Spurs will ever score.

Spurs we're defensive, laboured, tired, boring and done nothing all game. A typical Jose set up, to snatch and grab. If i was a Spurs fan, i'd be struggling to find any positives.

For us, i can allow us being off the pace a little but the lack of sharpness and quality was a worry. Martial in particular for me, looked poor. He's often in and out of games but he was woeful. Rashford too, didnt look upto it. Dan James, i like his workrate but he didnt impact the game.

All it comes down to for me is intensity in our passing. We are so so poor at using the ball. All our players take too long on the ball, then just give it sideways/backwards. Even when a forward pass is on, it's often left too late or ignored in favour of the safer backwards option. It gets us nowhere and gives a defensive team like Spurs time to just sit and defend. Frustrating to watch

Hopefully this will improve with match sharpness.

it didnt take a lot for us to get a goal, just some directness in our play. If you can isolate someone like Dier, chances are your going to draw him into a foul or get by him.

Gutted we didnt win - Spurs didnt play to win and its on us that we didnt break them down. Annoying but we move on
