Last time I saw United play Watford...

2 goals for Luther Blissett who got an obviously very confused AC Milan to pay £1 million for him a couple of years later. Also noteworthy for an appearance in goal for United for the calamitous Paddy Roche who mention of will have United fans of a certain age shaking their heads in disbelief.
Last time I saw them play each other was in 1985 a few days before the Cup Final - we lost 5-1 and Luther Blissett fractured his skull

My local side and my first time watching United live in years :D

I'll be in the Watford end though.
I'm also sitting in the home end though can't say I'm looking forward to it too much. Had some horrible moments sitting in the home end watching United at Arsenal, Chelsea and in particular Fulham (Papa Bouba Diop).

The chance to go top if only for afew hrs. The litmus test for this team so far this season can they do what Arsenal couldnt do against spurs and seize that chance. Win it and we are nicely set to cement a challenge. Lose and I feel we could end up making poor title impression this season. Odd how one game can determine such in your mind.

Watford fans are generally an alright bunch, except for the morons who support Spurs and Arsenal and just follow 'Watford' as their second team, but again I'm just as much a hypocrite

Seems solid, but what about Blind instead of Jones? If Watford park the bus I think Blind would be the better option.
On the other hand I have no idea of Watford's attacking options.

I guess its a possibilty. Watford's front two seem a handful. I know Deeney personally and he's a tank. Having said that, I actually dont think Watford will park the bus. I've watched them a few times this season and they press high up the pitch, regardless of who they have been playing. They played like that against Arsenal, and despite the loss, they played really well and should have probably come out with at least a draw.

Not going to be easy and our away record is shite. However, we have to be picking up a win in this type of match, if we want to show that we are serious.

I've never wished for one of our players to be ever injured, but for some reason I really hope that Rooney gets one. It will force LVG's hand we'll have Martial up top with Herrera and Mata both playing.

Rooney can prolly then watch the team blossom with goals and he'll maybe realise just how big a failure he's been this season.

It's a fantasy... that's one hard tackle away in training. Get on it Jonesy!

I'm gonna go with all out confidence and say we'll get a 2-0 win.
But mostly I'm just looking forward to having football back on, international friendlies are so boring.

Ighalo is actually a decent play, havng scored 7 league goals this season.
    For comparison, Rooney has 2.
We certainly have to respect Ighalo BUT, we need to be going out and dominating Watford.
My feeling is that they will park the bus and if that happens, I'd rather have Blind, than Jones.

    BTW. Is Smalling injured?

    Herrera > Free Speech

Ban all who do not include Herrera in their XI. We need a united front to get Van Gaal's attention. Maybe rename the site the Herrera Cafe. That would get some media comments.

Since it looks like Martial will be out. Unsure what's happening with Smalling if he's fit or not, if unfit swap him for Jones.

Still can't see Memphis starting. Will probably be Herrera behind Rooney and Lingard on the left.

Call me naive, but I'm actually expecting a decent performance from us. We were slightly better against CSKA and then much better against West Brom, so there's an upward curve there. Plus although the injuries are a blow, a fair few players have been able to have a bit of a rest over the break. Even De Gea, Mata and Schweinsteiger what with their second matches being called off.

Plus I don't expect either Martial or Smalling to be out for more than this one game. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if Smalling's 'knock' turned out to be nothing at all and he played.

I can see United controlling this game. It just depends if United can get the goals! Martial is a big blow so Rooney has to play up front so i really hope he steps up. Most likely Watford will drop Deeney and stick in another midfielder. I'd be very surprised if they stick with both Deeney & Ighola up front, having them both on will make that midfield even more weaker against an United's obvious superior midfield.

    4-3-3

    ------------------------DDG----------------------
    Darmian----Smalling--------Blind----------Rojo
    --------------------Schneiderlin-----------------
    --------------Herrera--------Schweinsteiger---
    -----Mata------------Rooney-------------Lingard

Could be like this but maybe be also a 4-2-3-1 with the Schmidfield in the deep midfield & Herrera in the whole but the formation changes as the game goes on anyways. But this looks likely to be the team to see against Watford. I'd expect United to suffocate Watford over the possessions. It just all depends if Rooney is finally getting on the goals.. we will see.

    Watford 0 - 3 United
