Calling it now, Bruno is done at the very highest level. If we can offload him we should. He's lost a step, and he only ever had a step to lose.

He'll still create, but I don't think he offers enough as a midfielder anymore. Physically, he looks off the pace here against Wigan. And he never had the touch of a Scholes or Modric which is what you need to do it.

If we could afford to only have him as a 10, fine, but we can't or won't create that support.
When you say "calling it now" you know it's beem called a 1000 times already across various threads on the forum?

    Personally I think he's had a good 45min.

Despite all our chances, Wigan are playing and defending well.
Onana saved us from what could have been an horiffic start.

Mainoo impresses me every game I see him, a really mature head and so aware of what is going on around him..
We really need to put this game to bed early in the second half.

How dare he, all young strikers in the world score goal after goal.
Never in the history of football have chances been missed!
I don’t understand this mantra that just because he’s young he can’t be criticised. He’s playing weak opposition and missed two easy chances, off the back of a poor season, costing £72m. Yes he shouldn’t be our main striker but that doesn’t absolve him for those chances missed.

I'm no expert but I feel like our inability to score could be fixed by bringing in an action proven goalscorer.
I would happily bring in a Welbeck/Firmino type player and trust that the Bruno/Rashford/Garnacho line can score the goals between them with a CF who brings them into play. Would then give us a different dimension with Højlund to then stretch defences with his running in behind.

McTom had 12 passes first half. Onana og Hojlund the with fewer! Mainoo and Bruno had 33 passes.

His heatmap has him on the right side of the pitch mainly.
And from there he goes into the box. It is a weird ass set up with Dalot in midfield very often and I guess we will see if it works any better when Mount is back to push McT down a rung.

I hope so. I want him to do well. I like him, I like how much passion he has but it’s so frustrating when he misses these chances, I feel more frustrated for him to be honest
Same here. Really want him to do well because he works his butt off every game and has so much of what he needs to be a good striker. Just needs to get that eye in and start scoring goals.

I hate how Garnacho on the right is more effective than Antony.

We paid more than 100m euros.

Hojlund should score. Let the man fail a few, he has had ver few real opportunities with us.

Its unbelievable that he is struggling score against League 1 opposition, he has had several chances but does nothing with them.
I think it’s a sort of confidence thing. Christ, some of those chances you’d expect to score just by the ball bouncing off him into the net. It must be so frustrating, and I think he doesn’t believe himself that he’ll score now.
Keane: ‘stop messing around and put the ball in the back of the net’.

Eyy? You’re seeing what you want, he’s been our best player out there alongside Mainoo.
Yeah a bit puzzling, he's done well today. Definitely his best overall performance for us in a while. The thing is with Bruno is that when he keeps it simple he's actually a very good player when he loses his head and plays hero ball is when I've got problems with him. Unfortunately, far too often he loses his head.

Well we've gone from the majority of the fanbase wanting Welbeck sold because he's not good enough of a cf, scoring 9 goals in the 13-14 season to it's alright to miss chances and be on 1 goal at the midway point he's young...
Technically he is our top goal scorer......

So we've got a lot of problems.

He went from Copenhagen to a problematic United in the something like 18 months. It was never going to be ideal for us to be in such a state when he had to bed into the team.

Anyway his finishing has never really been the worry in previous matches. It was more not getting the chances. So tonight is a bit different to the other "bad" games.

Yes, if only he had been a United player ten years ago.
I assume this is an attempt at a sarcastic gotcha, but it doesn't really work, him playing for United 10 years ago is totally irrelevant to the fact that we could really use his prime skillset today.

The way I see it on Hojlund tonight.

You can slag the header miss and the one that came off his shin/thigh. Those weren't great.

The left footed shot that was saved by the keeper was fine/good.

The cross from Garnacho that Hojlund touched back to McTominay was really good/intelligent.

Yet in here I've seen him be slagged for every one of those. I don't get it.
He’s missed two absolute sitters and generally looked poor against league 1 opposition. It’s not good enough.

Not to pick on Rashford, but that shot he took before the ball went to Dalot for the goal. A player is right in front of him and he goes for a shot straight at him. Was he expecting the ball to go through the player?

I was giving Hojlund some time but today he is starting to concern me a wee bit as well. Always seems a tad too slow to get his body in the right position, not unlike Wout last season.
Yes. Must improve this massively. A clinical striker adjusts his body instantly. Höjlund does not.

Some might almost think that the gameplan for McT is to push very high and leave the playmaking to Mainoo and Bruno, especially if they had seen the exact same set up multiple times this season. I don't like it but but focusing on his touch quantity when much of the time he is up alongside Hojlund seems pointless. Reasonable complaint tonight is poor finishing.
He makes the same run every time when we have possession , stands next to a Wigan player, points a bit and looks disinterested in receiving the ball until the ball goes into the box. He’s might be playing high but he should be able offer a lot more when we have the ball.

I don't understand why ETH wouldn't start one of our other keepers today to give the team a practice game with him before Onana leaves for Africa...

I've bought myself a replica 1993 united shirt. To avoid tarnishing it straight from the off I've decided not to wear it when Anthony, McT or Martial are on the pitch.

I was thinking of adding Rashford to that but i do want to wear it every now and again.

Genuinely think we should refrain from signing players for over £40m and just promote kids. United should be targeting the period after Pep leaves City in 2-3 years. Instead we chuck money hoping to get a short term fix for top 4.

We basically have nobody on the left. Dalot is playing narrow as is Rashford and Hojlund. Then we're overloading the right side.

It's a weird ass setup for sure. Working to be fair but the opposition are dire to be fair.

The single dm, fullback in midfield, 2 numbers 10s… basically Peps city system that we didn’t play once last year, but have played every game this year… typically very poorly.
So what's "new" about that, apart from playing lower division opponent?

He’s not had a great game in that regard but he gets slated even when he gets no chances.

He’ll get a goal second half.
Er, a striker that gets no chances normally gets slated, yes. He still gets cut a huge amount of slack. Not saying it's all his fault, but if it was Martial or Weghorst running around getting no chances they'd get slaughtered on here.

What's your point exactly. He can continue to miss chances and never get criticised because all strikers miss chances?
There tends to be a tone of ‘I’ve been saying Hojlund is shit’. It’s like people don’t want him to succeed and are taking joy in those misses.

He’s a young and pretty inexperienced striker in his first season at the club and he’s a fan as well.

Personally, I see a lot of talent, a bit of bad luck and some areas for improvement. The good thing is young players have room for improvement.

I think there is a tendency to expect attackers to all be scoring 30-goals a season regardless of the stage of their development.

Hojlund is a player with potential, that's it. He has raw talent, that's what we bought, unfortunately with typical United arrogance/incompetence we expect the finished product and because of this we'll break him before he's even started, he should be shadowing a more experienced striker.

I hear your point and I feel for the guy but you can't expect to be the starting striker at Manchester United with a transfer fee of 70 mill and not be criticised. Yeah he's young but he's always going to be criticised as the starting striker that's worth 70 mill.

Nobody even expects too much from him we're not expecting him to finish with the PL golden boot but you have to finish those chances it's quite simple.

Martial wouldn’t be running and Weghorst would but you couldn’t tell cos he’s so slow.

Score another goal and get Mejbri on for McT for the love of God. Wish Gore was on the bench.
