Wigan Athletic Football Club (nicknamed The Latics or The Tics) is an English professional association football club based in Wigan, Greater Manchester, England. Wigan Athletic was formed in 1932, following the winding up of Wigan Borough the previous year. Wigan Athletic is a stable association football club in the town. The first was Wigan Association Football Club, founded in 1883 as an offshoot of Wigan Cricket Club, and a member of the short-lived British Football Association, playing at Prescott Street.[1] They were followed by Wigan County, Wigan United, Wigan Town and Wigan Borough. Despite their initial application being turned down, Wigan Athletic were elected into the Cheshire County League following the resignation of Manchester Central. The club had also made the first of many attempts to be admitted into the Football League, but failed to receive a single vote. On 27 August 1932, Wigan Athletic played their first ever league game against Port Vale Reserves.

Wigan Athletic won their first honours in the 1933–34 season, finishing as champions of the Cheshire League. In the following season, the club won a second league championship and also entered the FA Cup for the first time,[4] defeating Carlisle United 6–1 in the first round – a cup record for the biggest victory by a non-league club over a league club. In the 1935–36 season, the club won its third consecutive Cheshire League title and the Lancashire Junior Cup. Wigan was elected to the Football League in 1978 and was promoted out of the Fourth Division in 1981–82. It won the Third Division title in 1996–97, the Football League Trophy in 1999 and the Second Division in 2002–03, before securing promotion out of the Championship in 2004–05. Wigan was the beaten finalist in the League Cup in 2006 and won the FA Cup in 2013, beating Manchester City in the final. Wigan's primary rivals include Chorley, Bolton Wanderers, Blackburn Rovers, Preston North End and Bury. They have been playing their home games at The DW Stadium (called Wigan Athletic Stadium in UEFA matches) since 1999.

Let's hope for an upset so we can reach the fourth round.

It won't be here, but I want to see Mainoo, Amad, Garnacho and Hojlund all start together at some point this season.

Thankfully a nine day break for this game for supporters myself included who have been drained watching a group of players that are consistently inconsistent.

If we were to lose this he better be sacked before he can get back on the team bus.

If this ends up another team playing better football than us then it is going to be a real worry.

If their passing is slicker than ours and they have more energy then I’ll know it’s all a wind up.
