Them feckers wrecked our season last year (FA Cup and PL defeats in the space of a week). Time for some revenge.

Can't wait for this narrative of Wolves having a better midfield than us, to be proven a total fallacy.
This nonsense is infuriating me to no end. People are so ridiculously dramatic on these boards.

People tossing arguments such as Wolves having a better midfield than Chelsea therefore it'll be even harder for us to control the midfield than against Chelsea. Where do people get fed these lies? Wolves having a better midfield than Chelsea or us? Since when.

So much ridiculous nonsense being typed. When we beat teams such as Psg on the counter and by being clinical despite being battered you had the same people claiming how lucky we were yet they forget to extend the same courtesy to Wolves who should have been dead and buries in the first 20 minutes by us if not for poor finishing.

People always going over the top on these boards.

The hell with people over rating Wolves midfield. Since when do they have a better midfield than Chelsea or even ours. You see people talking on these boards or Twitter as if Wolves battered us last season when the truth is that we should have put the game to bed in the first half but for poor finishing.
We have Pogba, but each of their trio is individually, arguably better than McTominay. Fred would probably level it up though. Chelsea no doubt has the better midfield on paper than both teams. We were boys vs men in midfield against them. What they didn't have against us was the defence and clue in attack. We had the former and punished them ruthlessly on the counter. Wolves are pretty solid and probably wouldn't allow that especially at their home.

    Team should be...

    -------------De Gea-------------
    AWB--Lindelof--Maguire--Shaw
    ---McTominay---Pogba---
    James------Lingard------Rashford
    -------------Martial-------------

Subs: Romero, Tuanzebe, Young, Matic, Andreas, Mata, Greenwood

I didn't like Andreas today, either on the wing or as number 10 so I'd bring James into this one. To loose to these lot 3 times in 2019 would be embarrassing to say the least
It's deffo going to be this team. Thought maybe Greenwood on the right too but I can see James getting the nod after scoring yesterday.

These'll be a tougher opponent than Chelsea, strange as that is to say. Brilliant last season and they've made some stellar signings.

We'll want to have more in midfield than we did today. Could try Fred instead of Pereira but there's no guarantee he'd be any less shaky at the moment. I'd be seriously tempted to just throw Gomes straight in at the deep end. If you want more control of the ball but still want to be able to spring sharp counter-attacks, why not?

Despite the fantastic start I already miss Herrera. If we'd kept hold of him I really don't think the moaning about our midfield would have much justification, but we've sold one of our most reliable players and not brought in any kind of replacement.
Yes! I agree with this completely. We’re going to have to control the game much more in this match.

Gomes has the passing range and vision to unlock defences. He also has that agility to get around players in close combats.

    Good shout

I think we'll see against Wolves why a creative midfielder and/or a defensive midfielder was necessary.

I honestly think Gomes will become one of the best creative midfielders in the league. Whilst he is so young I agree it wouldn’t of done much harm getting a more experienced attacking midfielder during the transfer window.

However, Gomes should kick on this season... he will be a nightmare to deal with for opponents I have no doubt about that.

As for a defensive mid, we should of sold Matic and bought Rice or Neves.... Mctominnay has to step up this season but it’s a huge responsibility for him...

This would definitely be a game for Gomes to feature as no.10, we need that elegance in the middle. Lingard played well against Chelsea in the second half because Chelsea set us up for the counter which suits Lingard's game. Against Wolves it'll be the other way round and we'll need more of what Gomes can give us with his dribbling in tight spaces.

    James Martial Rashford
    Gomes
    Pogba McTominay
    Shaw Maguire Lindelof AWB
    De Gea

In addition to Gomes starting. I’d like to see Greenwood instead of Andreas. I think in the pre season greenwood and Gomes had a great understanding of each others game. One can only hope!

But in all honesty, I can see Ole starting with the exact same team as the one that vs Chelsea. Maybe he will try and instil some consistency

Of the two games last year I recall that we were genuinely unlucky and were the better team in one but pretty much outfought and out-thought in another (think that was the FA cup match)

It will be really interesting to see if Wolves cede possession and sit back off us so that they don't get caught on the counter. If we get the first goal I think we'll win but i think it could be a cagey draw.

I love Gomes but I'm not sure Wolves away would be the first game I'd be giving him a full debut. Even though I say that I would be delighted to see him playing.

Really good test for us. We probably won't get a lot of opportunities to counter against them so it will test our ability to break down a solid defense.

What I think we'll start with. Not sure James is the right choice to start this as Wolves will likely sit deep. Gomes I'd prefer but Wolves away, can't see it. Could be a Greenwood stay though tbf. Or Fred with Pogba pushed up. Either way, would be a brilliant start to the season if we get a win.

Wolves gonna play in low block waiting to hit us on the break like last year. Think playing Pogba in a two is asking for trouble, bring in Fred who will be better with Maguire and Lindelof feeding him passes to then play into the final third.

Patience is the key, if we don't get a break through I'd bring on Gomes.

The key will be getting two v ones against their wing backs. James should help with this as he actually holds width.

I have a horrible feeling that it might be Pereira out for Matic as Ole will want a bit more experience in midfield for an away game.

I live in Wolverhampton, most my mates are season ticket holders, they're basically my second team.

Absolutely nobody around here thinks wolves have a better midfield than any of the top 6.

Wolves didn't beat United twice last season because they have a bunch of better players, in midfield or anywhere else. It was because they had heart, organisation, teamwork and legs. It will be interesting to see how/ how far United have progressed.

Incredibly tough game but win this one and we are 5pts up on last season and flying.

Really hope we've learned our lesson with Wolves. They aren't a great team. They just sit in really deep and counter well. I hope we've realised this by now.

Diogo Jota had his field day against Young. This time he is up against AWB. The cafe wishes him good luck in trying to outpace AWB.

Do your Wolverhampton mates live in London, Liverpool and Manchester too? Maybe they only watch us play a handful of times too. We will field Scott McTominay alongside Pogba. You don't need to live in Wolverhampton to know it's no better than Wolves'. Matic looks done, and Herrera is gone, we're weaker. Pogba will obviously provide a fair few bits of quality, but more often than not, they will just walk past.

Got a feeling that Ole is going to bring in Matic for a bit more experience in midfield for this one. Reckon he will still stick with the 4-2-3-1 and play Pogba further forward. Would like to see James start.

    De Gea

    Wan-Bissaka
    Lindelof
    Maguire
    Shaw

    McTominay
    Matic

    James
    Pogba
    Rashford

    Martial

    subs:
    Romero
    Dalot
    Tuanzebe
    Fred
    Lingard
    Gomes
    Greenwood

    Score Prediction:

    Wolves 1-2 Manchester United

Wolves strong suit is counter attacking football just like Ole as we saw against Chelsea. Whoever sits back the most and give the opponent too much of the ball will win. Even though we are the superior team, it will be a game decided on whose gameplan is better.

I'd fancy Mata for this in place of Pereira. Matic isn't going to help much against a counter attack. I can see solskjaer using the same players again though. I presume he likes pereira if hes selecting him against Chelsea and 8 days is a long time

People watch the top 6 more than your gonna watch Wolves v bottom halfers e.g. Huddersfield, a fixture that they lost BTW.

I think I missed 4 United games through work last season. I missed 8 or 9 Wolves games.

They have a technically brilliant Moutinho who is immobile as Matic and Neves who is worse and more inconsistent than Pogba. Dedoncker, Saiss and Gibbswhite are worse than McTominay, Fred and Andreas respectively, as hard as people here find that to believe.

As a team they are better drilled to their system, which is almost tailor made to get results from the top 6.

If there's one thing I can say with certainty on this forum, it's that Wolves do not have a better midfield than us.

    Regardless, we'll see next week

Tough game but we have now adopted the same style as Wolves so will be interesting to see how they approach the game
