Umm, you know Matic is suspended in league and this is CL right ?

If anything Matic needs to play this as he won't play on the weekend.

You're disrespecting Young Boys so much tbh with this selection. That's not League cup game.
Yep and it would be wise to give his replacement games before the Premier League. Also Matic hasn't impressed too much so Andreas should have a proper chance to impress. How is it an insult, I'd honestly like to know? A Swiss team? None of the players I have listed are not be at the level that Young Boys deserves. Is there any player of them that you think could make the side I mentioned? We need to kickstart the season of most of the players I mentioned. That team should be more than enough to beat Young Boys. Disrespect? Top teams should always disrespect the lower level teams, it makes sense.

    Here, there, everywhere...
Hope to see Pereira back from the dog house. Martial, Rashford and Mata in offense. Shaw back and Dalot getting a few minutes.

    De Gea
    Dalot Bailly Lindelöf Shaw
    Pereira Matic Fred
    Mata
    Martial Rashford

Nice game for momentum. 3 away wins on the spin before coming back to OT would be great.

They have won all 6 games in the league and have a +15 goal difference.

Smalling/Lindelöf partnership has to be kept, they're doing alright so it would be stupid to split them up.No need to change much apart from Shaw for Young and possibly Rashford for either Sanchez or Lingard.

Dalot on the bench to get some minutes hopefully.

We should play with a full strength team. We need to get off to a good start in the CL. If we win the first 2 games in the group, the Juventus games would be relatively stress free.

Still a CL game against a CL opponent not a League Cup first round match.

If we play with this lineup I can easily see it backfiring.

Young Boys are already 8 points clear in their league after 6 games. We can't take them lightly especially at their home ground.

We've been stuffed by Swiss teams in the past.Go into a game with "they're lower level opposition" is a ridiculous attitude. They will be well up for a game against United and playing anything other than a full strength team is asking for trouble.

Young Boys' home kit is yellow and black, not unlike Watford's. So I'm guessing we'll be in pink again?

Really can't decide what we'll do for this game. Drastic changes can't happen because ourselves and the other two teams in the group will be looking at the Young Boys matches and thinking we can't drop any points here. 6/6 is a requirement because any slip up just makes the bigger games must-win. I think we will need 9 points from Young Boys home/away and Valencia at Old Trafford if we want to progress to the knockout stage. The Juventus games are much more up in the air, so if we can get our 10 points from the other two teams we should be OK.

That said, Matic & Rashford have to play as they're going to miss Wolves on Saturday anyway. I think José will want to play 433 with it being an away game, but he seems absolutely against Sanchez playing on the right (or maybe it's Sanchez himself dictating this). We seem to be playing more of a diamond at times, however, so perhaps we'll see something more like that for the next couple of games:

    de Gea
    Valencia Smalling Lindelof Young
    Matic
    Fellaini Pogba
    Sanchez
    Lukaku Rashford
    ---
Grant; Bailly, Shaw; Fred, Mata, Lingard; Martial

Maybe McTominay will be on the bench, or Herrera if fit. I can't see much else changing, bar Shaw starting or Fred instead of Fellaini (but it's harsh to drop Fellaini after being so important in the last two games, even if they were matches suited to his style). I don't know enough about the Young Boys side to think what our best line-up is. What's their usual formation? Would José be more likely to just drop a midfield player for an extra attacker?

Provided we've learned our lessons from Sevilla we should qualify easily. Valencia are no better than Sevilla tbh - as long as we don't give them too much respect we'll be fine.

    De Gea
    Valencia Lindelof Smalling Shaw
    Matic
    Rashford Pogba Fred Sanchez
    Lukaku

Rest Fellaini and Lingard as there is literally no point in risking them since Rashford and matic are out next game.

Keep Smalling and Lindelof partnership so hopefully something can start to build between them
Yeah I'd agree with this, although Sánchez is lucky Martial looked so half-assed yesterday.

Fred should give us an extra dimension in these games.

Is this how you think football works? Play 11 individuals that have more added market value than the other 11 and win easily?
Even if the opposition plays that lineup week in week out?

Did you already forget that Basel won at home against United last CL? I doubt it's because they had the better players on paper.
2011, Basel kicked them out of the group stage with a win and a draw.

Now, after years of league domination, Basel has found it's domestic conqueror and you treat them again like it's some sunday league level.
If Jose has the same attitude, it will backfire heavily, but I honestly doubt it..

The team is from Bern btw, capital city of Switzerland.
They play at the Stade de Suisse, which has around 32'000 seats and a synthetic turf!

Apparently Shaw will be starting this one. Not sure that's such a good idea what with their artificial pitch and his crazy ability in getting injured. Think I'd rather Young v Young Boys and Shaw v Wolves.

    I'm thinking
    De Gea
    Valencia Smalling Lindelof Shaw
    Matic
    Fred Pogba
    Mata? Lukaku Sanchez
Not sure on Mata though, but I'm assuming they'll have 10 men behind the ball for long spells and Mata may get the nod to play the killer pass.

I'd keep Shaw for the weekend, just to be safe.

Same team as yesterday. I dont know anything about Young Boys to be honest, but I'm basing this off nothing more than them being a Swiss side and that league not being very strong. I'll go for...

    Young Boys 1 - 3 Man United
    Pogba, Lukaku x 2

I'd rest Fellaini for this one, just start Perreira or Fred instead.

I think we chop and change our sides too often, which usually doesn't help the team gel. I'd probably change Shaw for Young(with him on the other side) and have Fred/Pereira instead of Matic. Maybe Martial for Sanchez/Lingard too but making 6/7 changes all the time is not going to help us.

Lukaku, Pogba, Matic, De Gea and Shaw should be playing the majority of the games this season.

Matic might as well play as he is banned for the next domestic game anyway. Fred in for Fellaini imo.

Forgot about that. Yup Fred for Fellaini, although I reckon it will be McTominay.

    Wiki said:

Young Boys were founded in 1897 after four university students put on a game of football against Basel Old Boys Association. Rather than Old Boys, they opted to christen themselves Young Boys.

Just to compound the silliness, they duly started playing their games at the Wankdorf Stadium.
Young Boys in the Wankdorf Stadium.
You couldn't make this stuff up. :D

You just know some idiot will ring up the NSPCC and tell them they're watching Young Boys get destroyed.

Put some physical beasts like Fellaini, Bailly, Lukaku, Valencia, Matic and win gritty. Yes, we have to win this dirty.

Beautiful football can feck off, I want a win.
