Hope Greenwood gets the chance from the start tomorrow, but I have an ominous feeling it will be Lingard instead.

If anyone thinks Ronaldo is missing a UCL game when he’s 100% fit they need to be slapped.
Imo it's understandable that some may want Ole to carefully manage him, he's 36 yo already.

It's of course irrelevant here however in FM 2021 despite a downgrad on athletic attributes he still has a natural fitness of 20 (max). This guy's body is simply amazing so imo we don't have to worry about that I think.

I'm assuming Scotty didn't travel for this? I think our midfield will look much better whenever he's back. Think some fringe players will get a chance ala Lindelof, VDB etc.

Yeah, it's not winning me over. I'm actually hoping we just manage the game well, not too fuzzed about how we perform, just avoid injuries and maybe rest Ronnie.

Cannot believe UEFA doesn't realise this massively detracts from the quality of the game (and I thought it was only Europa that was cursed with clubs who do this), increases the risk of injuries, and favours the home team more than normal who are used to this shite.
You realise they play every 2nd week there and don't get injured more often than other players?! Also, they host many international games for the Swiss NT and I've never heard anyone complaining. You act like it's played on hot stones with shards in between...

    p.s. Bern is in Europa

This is no time to rotate heavily. We are only four games into the season. Maybe make a couple of changes, but we need to field strong sides against both Young Boys and West Ham in the league. Then we can change it around a little more in the League Cup.

Think it’ll be something like this

    DDG

    AWB
    Maguire
    Varane
    Shaw

    Fred
    Pogba

    Greenwood
    Bruno
    Sancho

    Ronaldo

With the 5 sub rule I think we’ll definitely see Lingard & Martial getting minutes. I’d like Lindelof and VDB on the pitch too, in the former case purely so he doesn’t get rusty through lack of game time, although I do think he’ll start the League Cup game next week. If the game is won early on, which it should be, then hopefully Elanga can get another taste of first team action too.

Ronaldo will definitely start, even just to extend his record (you never know, maybe in future, some 12-15 years later, someone like Haaland may still have a chance to break it, if he maintain his consistency/longevity)

And we should try to play our strongest team too, because it’s a CL game afterall.

Win the game early then make the subs.

Hopefully we've got 2 by the 60th so we can start to give the likes of Dalot/Lingard/VDB some minutes into their legs.

It’ll be a strong team. Chance to get 3 points on the board from first away game from home — it’ll be a strong team.

Quite a tough one to call. I think he will pick a strong side. I would like VDB to get an opportunity to play in the midfield but that means either resting Pogba or putting Pogba onto the left because VDB would have to play alongside a Fred or Matic.

Don't think we'll rotate much and rightly so, get off to a strong start and get the group wrapped up in four games. Think VdB may drop in to midfield as Ole's alluded to him getting his chance soon.

    De Gea

    Shaw
    Maguire
    Varane
    AWB

    Matic
    VdB

    Pogba
    Bruno
    Greenwood

    Ronaldo

Edit: One thing I like about this setup with these players is in theory it can easily become a diamond in possession, which I think suits us quite well and could go far in helping us progress the ball better.
Matic will naturally drop, sometimes between the two CBs. VdB will push slightly higher, while Pogba has a tendency to come slightly deeper infield and narrow. Bruno of course will push high up the pitch in to the #9 position, allowing Ronaldo and Greenwood to operate as wide strikers.

Sancho definitely starts this one imo, Ole is keen for him to pick up his fitness, he hasn't had a lot of training and matches under his belt like the others due to his late return and then subsequent injury as well.

I hope so. Save the rotation for the League Cup next week. We need to give the first choice XI time to build understanding with the new additions to the team. I expect it will be Fred for Matic but hope that will be the only change from Saturday.

I'd start Lingard on left and Sancho on right for this, with Bruno and Ronaldo on top. Mason's been one of the best for us this season, but Lingard deserves it too.

I think AWB and Mason are dead certs to start this one. No international break travels and they should be much fresher than the others in the back and forward line respectively.

Ole made it sound like Donny might be in from the off too. Maybe one or two changes from Saturday but not much else.

Id keep Maguire and Varane in as they need to play to build up a strong relationship. Lingard deserves a go as the no10. Keep the other front 3. Bring donny in possibly. Dalot too. Kill the game and make changes for the last half hour

Isn't the problem for the visitors that not are used to the turf?

Which kit are we wearing tomorrow?
I think it’s the white one. Man Utd admin changes the badge on their Twitter depending on the kit that we’re playing in.

I'm sure there is a visiting team in each of those games.
I don't deny the advantage it brings YB in terms of playing and tactics, but it isn't an injury issue at all. Otherwise, it would've been banned a long time ago.

Just watched Ole's presser. Are we playing on astroturf? In the Champions League? I don't understand how that's allowed to happen. Now I'm not really expecting a football match, but some perverse form of one.
Yes, it's allowed. To do with the weather there, apparently, particularly the amount of snow. It hosted a game for Euro 2008.

I would give Lindelof a game to keep him match fit. Give Maguire a rest

dont really understand all the folks who think we need to rotate and rest. We need to get off to a good start and tonights game is not easy by any stretch

Win tonight and then we have 2 home games. Qualify and then rest players for the last 1 or 2 group games, not the other way around

Starting Donny today would mean benching one of Pogba, Sancho and Greenwood, but I think it'll happen.

Bring him in for matic? Are we expecting these to attack us that much where we'll need sufficient cover

Looking at their results in the league (against the top Swiss sides) and Champ qualifying this lot look half decent.

I wouldn't expect a walk in the park.

Not sure about this mate. That team will have no cohesion whatsoever. The reason we went out last season was because we lost to the group minnows. We need to win this game. Henderson is horrible. I'd rather Heaton than him.
