  1. Is DM the most important position in football?

In the end, it's adding the right world class players or Manager for the team that will transform them. Casemiro has been incredible, but the key transformation has been down to ten Hag overall. He deserves enormous credit for improving our players (especially Rashford). You mentioned Van...
  2. Marcel Sabitzer - (Use the Player Performance thread to discuss his matchday performances)

Seems to be an all rounder, looks pretty decent at everything (passing, shooting, tackling, etc.) Also impressed with how two footed he is. I'm starting to notice a trend with ETH, in that he really likes players with high work rates. Would have been interesting to see how he would have dealt...
  3. Who you REALLY want for new owner?

How can anyone, looking at what is happening at Twitter, possibly want that moron for us! :houllier:
  4. Champions of the Transfer Window 2022 - Title Race

Think you've rated us too high, I would put it around 5. Even if we manage to sign FDJ, we still have huge gaps upfront. We're depending on Martial and Rashford to get back to their best and staying fit, our backups are Elanga, Pellestri, and Amad. If Ronaldo stays, he could end up disrupting...
  5. Bruno Fernandes | 2021/22 Performances

Bruno on MOTDx today, short clip in link below. Really comes across as a lovely bloke, hope he stays until retirement. Also, anybody knows which Pastel de Nata shop in Manchester he is talking about? https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/football/58499937
  6. Champions League Draw: Thursday August 26 18:00 CET

Pot 2 actually seems stronger than pot 1. Means we avoid some big names by default. Wouldn't have fancied another grouping with PSG.
  7. Barcelona: Charged with corruption .... again!

2020 was the first time in that chart which goes back to 2011, I'd imagine we'd have to look back to before our first premier league win. I imagine getting rid of Alexis was big part of it. :smirk:
  8. Barcelona: Charged with corruption .... again!

For those who subscribe to the Athletic, there's an interesting graphic of the wage budgets of the Super League clubs over the last 10 years...
  9. Maldini (CB) Vs Maldini (LB)

Always felt that is was a real pity that he never won anything at international level that his ability deserved. Club trophies made up for that though, 5 European/Champion Leagues.
  10. Declan Rice

He's playing out of his skin, but his distribution has been dreadful. Could have have released the ball earlier a number of times now to set up the counter.
  11. Declan Rice

Was just about to say this as well, I am astounded at the prices quoted for him. Maguire is better at dribbling and passing forwards than he is. You can see Denmark just backing off him all the time because they know he couldn't hurt them. Central midfield is a real weakness in the England...
  12. Paul Pogba | 2020/21 Performances

Don't think it's quite as big a mistake as everyone makes out. Once he loses the ball, there should still be enough defenders to cope. The bigger mistake was Kimpembe diving in. The only way Pogba gets out of that, is if he played a first time pass out, once he takes a touch the Swiss players...
  13. Paul Pogba | 2020/21 Performances

Unfortunately it seems like Pogba really needs a team to be built around him. Very similar to Riquelme, and Veron. Can't seem to just slot in straight into a conventional AM, CM or DM. We might only start to see the best from Pogba when he goes to a Villareal or Estudiantes where they give him...
  14. The Athletic: What it's like to play in midfield, by Scott McTominay

Could somebody pick out some key points for the rest of us poor/stingy folk? :)
  15. Has (international) football become too generic?

It's the euros, so I think styles were always likely to be more homogeneous. Most of the players would be concentrated in just a few countries' leagues playing the same way. Probably see more variation at the world cup, but also many players would be Europe based. And the world is so connected...
