I really hope I'm wrong, but I can't shake the feeling Ole still sees Matic as first choice.

    Our best 11

    ----------------De Gea-----------

    Wan Bissaka---Lindelof---Maguire---Shaw

    ----------McTominay---------Matic-------

    Greenwood---------Pogba-----------Rashford

    ---------------------Martial----------------

I think we need Pogba as the 10 to compliment our forwards best.
I tend to agree with this right now, but it all depends on Matic. Will he be able to adapt to a new pressing system? If not, i have no idea what we will do with midfield as i don't have confidence in Fred or Peirera.

    This, this and this.
I can't believe that Oly didn't want a decent midfielder so is this just Woodward being his usual useless self. Look, without a midfield general or two, there is no heart in a team and it looks to be the case here. It seems that Oly may be thinking that an abundance of defenders and forwards is magically going to fill our whopping hole in midfield.
What we really wanted and should have bought is a much younger version of matic with a regular goal scoring ability such as a Keano or Bruno. Pogba does score goals but doesn't have the engine to comnand. Fred nor Pereira are not anywhere near the standard required. Only Mctom has the drive, energy and desire to be good and has the ability/desire to score regular goals if he keeps developing as last year.
The upshot of all this continuing mediocrity is that the Glaziers and Woodward are not fit for purpose. If things don't improve this year, and I really hope Oly can produce, I think the fans will be walking out of matches.
What's odd is that Ole is using a double pivot, which makes me question him immediately as Pogba never does well in that system, however if we are using a double pivot we didn't strictly need a holder, but Rodri, Rabiot, Ndombele and Lo Celso all moved and we were nowhere to be seen, instead we seemed to only want Longstaff or nobody, which is ridiculous.

Not happening in a million years but i'd go with:

    De Gea
    AWB Tuanzebe Maguire Dalot
    McTominay Fred
    Greenwood Pogba Gomes
    Rashford
    Romero
    Jones/Smalling
    Lindelof
    Shaw
    Pereira
    Martial
    Lingard/James

Matic, Young and Mata on the bench with the Coaches.
Thank god you are not the manager because we would lose badly. Picking youngsters for the sake of it. This ain't FM bro, they need to be integrated carefully, it's so careless to just throw them into the opening game of the season against a team like Chelsea.

    DDG

    AWB
    Lindelof
    Maguire
    Shaw

    Matic (anchorman)
    McTominay (box to box runner)
    Pogba (creator)

    Lingard
    Martial
    Rashford

We are seriously lacking in central midfield, right wing and up front.

Ole starting Matic in this game would be a reversal on everything he’s said about how he wants is to play this year, same goes for Mata. We’ve seen a pivot of Pogba and McTominay with a number 10 in front of them all preseason, and that’s what you’ll see on Sunday.

Mate, if I had a spare £100 now I'd put it on Matic playing 90mins. Guaranteed. And by October, we're gonna feel the burn of this.

    Wan-Bisaka -- Lindelof -- Maguire -- Shaw

    McTominay -- Andreas

    Lingard -- Pogba -- Rashford

    Martial

    Subs:
    Greenwood *
    James *
    Gomes *
    Mata
    Matic
    Romero

    * actually come in last 30 minute, giving a new boost of pace when Chelsea's back line are tiring

Don’t think we’ll start Pogba at 10, which makes me think it’ll be one of McTominay or Matic partnering him. I’ll be hopeful and go McTominay as he tended to be his partner in the pre season games.

    De Gea
    AWB - Lindelof - Maguire - Shaw
    McTominay - Pogba
    Lingard - Mata - Rashford
    Martial

    That’s my prediction. I wouldn’t start Jesse.

Really? For some reason, I have the feeling Ole is a consistent guy that is very pragmatic. If there are good reasons to play with a pure 6, we would obviously do it but Ole tries to be consistent and coherent in this way of playing, so I don't think that will change... we should expect a combo of Pogba and McT and someone in front of them, it could be Mata, Lingard or Gomes.

    Im going for....

    ---------------------------De Gea-------------------------
Wan Bissaka - Lindelöf - Maguire - Shaw
    ---------------Mctominay - Pogba------------------
    Greenwood ----------Mata-----------Rashford
    ----------------------------Martial------------------------

But maybe Ole will go with Lingard on the right. I would love to see Gomes instead of Mata but doubt two inexperienced youth's will start

As long as Matic doesn't start or get subbed on i will be happy, hes too slow.

I think 95% chance of McT - Pogba pivot with Lingard in front of them. Martial and Rashford. Plus Greenwood or James on right wing.

James/Greenwood and Angel to come on from the bench to run at them.

There is an argument that Pogba and McTominay should swap as Wan-Bissaka can cover for Pogba defensively, Pogba can also take advantage of a technically very good Luke Shaw and spray passes out to that wing. But here is what I think we will be the line-up.

I had initially had Tuanzebe in due to his pre-season form but feel Lindelöf will be the one.

Lingard will be key in the press and we should definitely use him to get at their CB's and to give Jorginho no time. their most comfortable one on the ball has gone so as long as Martial sticks to task on Azpi (this is the biggest argument for having Rashford out on the left in my opinion) then we can starve them of a short out ball, force Kepa to go long to Abrham or Giroud where the height of Maguire, McTominay and Pogba can give us a big advantage in recycling possession.

Why, my team is a thing of beauty, a heady mix of pace, power, athleticism, cunning, craft and durability, and there's no need for me to put in brackets what certain players roles are in the team.

Agree on one thing though, your team is seriously lacking in central midfield, right wing and up front. ;)

n an exclusive interview with MUTV, Ole said: “Harry has impressed me, very much so. He has come in as a presence. He is taller and bigger than I thought. He has come in as a real plus. He will have an impact on the rest of the boys.

“Yeah, Harry is ready to play. I am sure he will put himself up, when I ask him on Sunday morning, if he is available, because he has played many games for Leicester over the pre-season. He has trained well and he has looked sharp when he has been here.

“Paul joined in, actually, the day after [the AC Milan match]. I wasn’t going to risk him, travelling down with the flight, but he joined in the game against Blackburn the day after, behind closed doors here. He is available. All of the boys are fit.

    My tuppenny's worth:

    DDG

    Lindelof - Maguire - Jones

    Fred - Pogba - Matic

    James - Lingard - Rashford

    Martial
It's the season now. No time for youthful experiments. I think youth will be used sparingly and when we are in a secure position.

I've gone for three in midfield because two in midfield is just not strong enough. Whether we choose Matic/Pogba or McTonminay/Pogba or even Fred/Pogba.

Why are people putting Rashford at 9. It's clear from Pre season that Martial will be the striker with Rashford on the left.

Both at their best positions too.
