All makes sense.

I'm a bit of a sucker for a great FK taker though, I miss the feeling of excitement whenever Bale used to stand over one, or Eriksen in his early seasons (he simply doesn't score direct ones any longer) so maybe I'm a little biased as I always feel like it's worth keeping one around in the squad if you have it.

You don't really have one at the moment do you? I know TAA is decent at them and Salah scored a great one for Egypt, but nobody who really scores them consistently. Coutinho and Suarez used to bang them in pretty regularly.
Coutinho became pretty good at them towards the end of his Liverpool career. I think Alexander-Arnold is still working on it. He gets close but doesn't have it nailed on yet.

I still think Beckham is the best set piece taker I've seen since I started watching football.

Juninho though . And Nakamura used to score some absolute fecking belters. Although Beckham gave me one of my favourite ever moments as a football fan: that free kick against Greece to send England to the world cup.

Right now Messi seems to have gotten seriously good at them, possibly the best in the world? I know Calhanoglu is a bit of a specialist too but haven't really kept up with watching much of A.C Milan recently.

Like I said, referees lose points if they change their decision based on VAR, that was a legit pen. Referees will never expose themselves, the implementation of the system is a fecking farce

Honestly, what is the point of VAR? That was stone wall a penalty in the replay....

Who's this ref? He seems pretty decent imo, compared to some of the dross the league has

They've set it up to back the referee's decision (even if he gets it wrong) unless it's completely clear and obvious.

VAR kind of works everywhere else but England

why is it even here, just wasting time

It's absolutely dead on if somebody's toe is offside or if their fingertip touches the ball.

But if a ref doesn't spot a foul of any kind they just shrug and use the 'interpretation' excuse to protect the officials. Which is bullshit, because even top referees will make mistakes, they aren't robots.

Boufal is usually gash when I watch Soton, but he's been on fire this half

Its not an excuse. If a ref says he seen it then VAR has to abide by his decision

Feel for Saints there. They deserved to get a point at least after that second half performance.

I had both Ake and C Wilson in my FPL though, good times!

Ah, Southampton play us and their defense plays well, they play anyone else and not one of them ever seems to have played in defense before

It's easy to defend when you're sitting deep and playing cautiously, not so easy when you're at home and the favourite so have to give up space.

Totally agree.

The way we have introduced VAR seems borderline vindictive. It's as though a room full of grumpy men sat down to work out how they could solve the problem of goals being scored in football. We even introduced that ludicrous new hand ball law just to make sure VAR can rule even more goals out!

Surprised Yann Valery hasn't played much for them, he impressed second half of last season.

Thought Cedric Soares was being sold with his loan but he seems to be back in favour again.

Nowadays everybody blames just other people for their own mistakes.

It's our own fault that we couldn't beat Southampton......the team has no goal-scorers and creativity + Solskjaer is clueless on PL top 6 level.

Lloris, Sanchez and Dele Alli not involved for Spurs today, Eriksen back to the bench.

Very likely Spurs will drop points today, Leicester away is tough even with full strength team.

I alway think of Roy Keane being a twat whenever this happens..."He didn’t have the baby. Unless he’s breastfeeding he should be all right".
I know. That was a stupid thing to say. Just shows how little empathy he has for anyone.

This is a myth - here's a hint, its got nothing to do with Southampton's defence.

It's like the myth that all goalkeepers have worldies against us then revert to being shit - perhaps its got something to do with our poor finishing?

I love the team today.

Not a great deal of creativity in midfield but it's what you need away - energy, strength and someone who can keep things ticking over a bit in Winks. We've got two genuine fullbacks and our best central defenders are starting.

Eriksen can piss off. If we struggle I don't want to hear about how we're nothing without him, he does nothing these days. Alli too has a lot to prove to get back in over Lamela who is in far better form.

(poch fecking hates lucas moura though )
