Just a thread to generally discuss the state of the Country without adding unecessary commentary to specific threads...

What exactly is happening in that Country? It is arguably meant to be the most developed nation in the world, yet it appears to be a country that is seriously on the down with issues surrounding policing, politics, poverty, religion, terrorism etc.

The whole country is virtually turning into a real life version of Gotham City from Batman.

As a potential tourist from another developed nation, the attractiveness of visiting the country is quickly dwindling.

Visit away but don’t live here :nervous:
Tbf the tourist spots are still great. You can avoid politics just fine.

Before it began to dwindle, what made it attractive to you in the first place ?

You can still visit Florida as it’s pretty safe for the most part. I’m still alive.

Most of the western pop culture (especially in Australia) eminates from the US so being a part of that is something I think alot of us especially can assimilate with. The west coast especially is something I think is on most people's bucket list. Secondly, despite the fact I oppose war, i've always wanted to go to the smithsonian museums and see US warfare tech up close etc. Irrespective of the what its used for, the technology in itself is incredible.

Centuries of being a breeding ground for Christian fundamentalism, genocide, and slavery is still flowing through our veins over here.

Speaking as a visitor, the biggest mistake people make is that it's a homogenous society. It's not. It's a big fecking place, and while there are other big fecking places on earth , which are almost equal in their entirety, it's very different in the United States. What I can suggest: 1. Visit the west coast. For a good first impression. 2. Vist east coast. 3. Visit Tecas. 4. Go quickly to west coast again, to erase memories from point 3.

Sort of like North Korea with better PR but worse healthcare.

The US is the whole world in one country.
Though I understand the fear of guns especially.
But change comes slowly.
My current city is literally a melting pot of nearly every culture on the planet. You go from one suburb to another and the key demographic changes both in culture and religion. We dont nearly seem to have the fundimental issues that are present in the US.

There's so much that I want to see and do whilst there.

There's so many reasons why I never want to go there too.

Those reasons are currently bigger than the things I want to see and do there.

Americans are fecked up and the country is fecked up too. The younger ones that make it over to Europe seem to be okay and at least admit that it's fecked up.

Also Georgia.
Atlanta is actually a very progressive multicultural city that is unlike the rest of Georgia. And it still has the southern charm that we all love. By the way if you like home cooked southern food, I’d highly recommend Mary Mac’s.

I stayed in Boston for a year recently. Loved it, except for a stolen bike.

Never been the most developed country in the world. They're just good at pretending they are. They're part extremely developed and rich, part 3rd world, part religious nutters.

They have some nice places to vacation to though.

Its a ridiculously beautiful country. Has natural beauty of all kinds and I would absolutely love to do route 66 for example. As a brown Muslim though I have my reservations driving through some states.

Driving cross country is definitely a lot of fun, especially through the south.
