Someone like Neves or Rice would fit our system more than a like for like replacement.

Obviously we’re not gonna be able to get them in Jan, long term options though.

I think Rice is a very good shout, would have preferred Ndidi but knowing Leicester they would be unreasonable with demands (not to mention injury). Ole's preferred system is a 4 2 3 1 under no circumstances should we be signing a player who cannot play a support role in defence midfield. So anyone who wants Grealish, DVDB and Bruno disagree.

He's a Leeds boy, I know it's been a while since we properly competed with them but can't see it. He'd be great though.

Denis Zakaria should probably #1 option. Stats twitter loves him as a defensive midfielder who is good on the ball, and he does look brilliant the little I've seen. Alternatively, Rice would be an excellent option as well, just not sure on the ball if he has enough or if he'd be a Dier type. Phillips has it on the ball, but is he good enough defensively for a top team? Anyway, to start with off the top of my head, those 3 are all excellent options.

Ndidi as well, though Leicester would ask for too much so I view him as a bit unrealistic.

I think it is important to not make the mistake we made signing Pogba for his excessive fee. If we could get Rice for 40 million, no bother. Not 80 million though.

We should really be looking at someone for around the 40 million mark. No doubt the club will have targets.

Rice actually is a baller but West Ham would price him as much as Villa did Grealish, no doubt.

I think this is the right move to go for DM with Pogba money. We are fine in defense and attack until summer, and with a top DM we have many, many options in midfield.

Yh but they were relegated and desperate for money no? I'm sure the player might be open to it - he's only 25 so wouldn't have really known the rivalry but Leeds' fans would revolt.

Agree with this 100 %.
We do have 3 decent CM's in Fred, McTominay and VDB, each bring different things to the table.
Lets get a proper DM now.

Do you not feel like Rice is quite limited? Neves is good, but I don't know if he'd compliment either Fred or McTominay.

I think we need someone more box to box, someone who can be effective in all thirds of the pitch. I think we should be going all out for Camavinga or Zakaria. Both are physically suited to PL football, and have a bit more guile on the ball than either Rice or Neves.

Nah Ward-Prowse isn’t good enough. Monster on set plays but not much more to his game. Haven’t seen enough of Phillips.

Neves is a deep lying playmaker. He’s got a hell of a shot on him too. Playing next to a bulldog like Fred of McT would be perfect for him.

Rice would have been ideal if he wasn't so bloody expensive. Zakaria and Phillips are the other ones I really like. Berge has the making of a young Matic and could be available for peanuts if Sheffield are relegated.

They were relegated & going bankrupt. Leeds are one of the reasons why we have parachute payments now. Totally different situation. They’d double his price because we’re Manchester United. They’d ask for ridiculously unrealistic money.

As mentioned above, Berge could be a decent bit of business. Similar to Spurs getting Hojberg.

In what world is Rice a baller ? As for for Ward Prowse or Phillips? People really want to replace Pogba with either of them?

Is Camavinga gettable? Ndidi / Rice et al surely horrendously overpriced. Zakaria coming off a big injury.

I've no idea but hope we go in this direction.

A world class CDM alongside Fred / McT, VDB / Bruno is actually the perfect compliment.

don’t want Camavinga as he won’t deliver for 3 or more years. And we have Garner as a top youth prospect back from loan next season. I’d rather get someone aged around 24, who can step in immediately enhance the quality of the 1st XI.

Ndidi is a big risk considering his recent injury issues. Also, would mean dealing with Leicester again. Rice is a 50m player, but we’d have to contend with rhe English tax & the PL to PL sale tax, so it’s probably gonna be 80m minimum.

It’s a shame Tonali & Partey moved this summer.

I think we need a DM that can also ping the ball. Kalvin Phillips would have been perfect. There really aren't much proven quality DMs out there.
