The Swiss Ramble thread reminded me how low interest rates have been for the last year. Now would be the ideal time for the club to take out a loan to renovate OT/Carrington or to invest in the surrounding area if we didn't already have £500m in debt. Going into debt for some tangible benefit to the club (updated and expanded Old Trafford) would be far more worthwhile than paying for the privilege of being owned by these parasites.

I think the woes are slightly exaggerated, when I have been I have always enjoyed the feel of OT. I wouldn't want to lose it to a modern stadium, nor do I see why we need an expansion. I don't see the point in that for a minimal gain in seats, it is not cost effective when we have a significant capacity to begin with. Major expansion or rebuilds just don't make any sense, the difference for other clubs is the stadiums lacked capacity as well as being old.
I don't see why we can't start with the roof and giving the place a fit out, improve the look. This is more affordable (and may even become necessary). It will not be cheap but this makes sense to me practically speaking. It would still have issues with access and various flaws that are mentioned, but realistically speaking it is going to take some years to recover finances and it's not easy to bring this stadium up to par in every area, there are always going to be ongoing concessions even in a theoretical world of having more reasonable ownership. But seeing rust and old furnishings is just sloppy and gives completely the wrong idea about our club.
Never happening under these owners of course so this is all hypothetical.

Not sure about that. For starters how good does a training ground have to be to produce good footballers? The '99 team trained at The Cliff. I'm sure these guys can cope at Carrington.
Also, unless you've been in to Carrington, how can you compare it to other training grounds? I think it's just assumed it's worse.
I'd much prefer the stadium to be modernised.
Ive been to Carrington and watched the players train. It’s a fantastic facility. However, I don’t have anything particular to measure it against.

I think the figure was about 400m for a general refurb and to increase capacity to 88000 by building over the railway.

Fair point. I am curious as to video boards in Europe. I have only been to Villa Park and Old Trafford (back in 2004), and there doesn't seem to be either a need or a desire for large video boards in European stadiums. Is that changing or is that just an American thing (frankly, I find them nice for sports like American football with a lot of stoppages and replay opportunities)?
Why do people think that the Glaser's care? Once fans are coming through the turnstiles they must be happy with how things are, that's how that family think. It's a disgrace that one of the biggest clubs in the World, with the largest attendances in Britain, that generates more money than nearly every other club in the World has now got a third rate stadium and training facilities. It's time the players and the fans drove it home to this family that is just not good enough.

State of stadium is a disgrace. Needs complete renovation but I want to keep the overall look. Tradition and history count for something. Old Trafford is iconic Identi-Feck Arena 3000 or whatever isn’t needed just upgrade the old girl

No engineer but they'd have to knock the stands behind the goals going by that render...for starters. But anyway it looks bloody awful, hardly a design by Herzog de Meuron...I suspect the bloke who did it was taking the piss.

It's in need of proper maintenance, seats are old, leaky roof and steel is badly rusted in some parts of the stadium too.
