Medvedev gone. He wouldn’t be the first to drop off after getting to No.1.

Murray beaten by Bublik yesterday in straight sets. Obviously, he’s earned the right to play as long and in whatever way he sees fit but I really hope for his sake that he gets whatever he needs to from this attempt to get back to the top, even if it’s only to quiet that voice in his head in the dead of night that will nag at him. I know he seems to be gearing up to make a real run at the grass but I just can’t see how he can get himself to the latter stages of big tournaments with enough in the tank to be competitive. It’s incredible what he’s doing, even being out there with a resurfaced him but I do wonder how many early rounds losses like this he can weather before it wearing him down. Maybe Lendl coming back will be good for him. He’ll tell him straight when it’s time to either stop, or at least let himself off the hook in terms of expectations.

Nadal Kyrgios tonight should be good

Alcaraz also into the QFs
Alcaraz is a real stud. Looking very impressive. Would love to see him vs Nadal who should beat Kyrgios comfortably. Bublik fell into the trap of trying to have fun with Nick which is a terrible idea and something I doubt Nadal will do.

Thought he looked pretty good against Opelka yesterday aside from a period in the 2nd set.
He was worse before in the two matches before.
I just read about him saying his foot is flaring up.

If so, why the feck is he playing here?

This has been great so far, hopefully Kyrgios doesn’t fade in the second if he loses the first

I like Kyrgios style, but he's not a killer on the court.

First set should have been dead and buried, yet he let Nadal come in at 5-4

It doesn't sound like it's unplayable but bothering him more than the past couple of months. He has managed it before he seemed to indicate that playing on clay will help.

Well, Kyrgios played well in that set up until serving for the set at 5-4. Gets broken and seemed to crumble.

Ended the first set on a point penalty telling a fan to shut the feck up.

I think Alcaraz will hand Nadal his first loss of the year

Seems likely yeah, Nadal hasn’t looked at his best, grinding it out a bit.

Good performance last night from Nadal, particularly in that 3rd set. Thought the match was very good, despite the very windy conditions in the 2nd set which made it tricky for both players.

He doesn't look great physically today and I think we're going to see more and more of that in the Masters when he doesn't have a break between days. He's not good enough physically anymore to play a lot of 3 setters in a week. He's been fairly below his best this tournament and it's continuing today.

Poor match. Backhand looked awful. Still had his chances.

I'd have rather he lost to Alcaraz than Taylor fecking Fritz.

Nadal out for 4-6 weeks with a stress fracture to his left rib. He really really should not have played the final after picking up a knock in the semi. He'll probably miss Monte Carlo and Barcelona now at least.

Shocker. She’s an incredible player and if she’d been able to stay healthy and motivated there were loads more Slams out there for her. Very old school to go down the early retirement route.

All the best to Barty in retirement. Never expected her to stick around until her mid to late 30s but still a big surprise.

She's always been a homebody and after achieving her goal of Wimbledon and winning her home slam, her video does make a lot of a sense.

The sport will miss her but she has to do what is right for her.

Respect her decision, seems like a hard one to make. Great player and seems like a genuinely nice person. all the best to her.

Shades of Magdalena Neuner (Biathlon) who also retired at 25 after she had basically won everything there was.
Cool decision by Barty, great person all around, all the best for her future.

Tstitsipas - Alcaraz turning into a repeat of the US Open. Tsitsipas starting well, leading 5-2(3?) in the first set only for Alcaraz to storm to victory in the first set.
Second set and it's deuce in the 4th, Alcaraz leading 2-1

Great tennis (and the Sinner Kyrgios game earlier was also high quality)

Alcaraz and Sinner are legit. At least ten grand slams between the two of them in the future, possibly even twenty.

Even when Alcaraz was 5-2 down, it never felt like the score line really reflected what we saw on the ground. He was playing really really well.

Alcaraz’s development has gone into warp speed. This guy is going to start contending for Slams soon and once he does, he’ll be there for the duration.

Alcaraz is becomes the 3rd youngest player to win an ATP 1000 tournament. Chang & Nadal 1-2 on that list.
