This guy deserves a thread, I had doubts whether he had the quality to make it in Madrid or not but he has proven me wrong spectacularly, wouldn't have became champions without him.

What a player, one to keep an eye on.

One game shouldn’t really be enough to prove you right or wrong about a player. That being said, he had an immense match, playing out of position as well, ala Hargreaves in 2008.

Love him to bits. He's probably gonna have a short career though, the amount of energy he spends in every match is incredible.

Good thing he's been great most of the time this season, excepting early season where he started slow because of niggling injuries. Can play seamlessly in every position it seems.

He’s so fast — he had Robertson on the back foot nearly every time they got in a one v one.

Sprinting nearly all 90 minutes. Is this just a Uruguayan thing?

Yeah, don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t criticising Valverde with that comment  moreso some of the knee jerk reactions after a one off match/final.

Oh I might have come off wrong, I meant more generally as I've had a keen interest in Madrid ever since ronnie left,my appreciation of his has grown gradually and even then i still wasn't sure if they'll insist with him at the start of the season.

Last night's performance was the icing on the cake.

Oh yeah, then we’re totally on the same page here. It’s just been unfortunate for him (& other madrid midfielders) that they’ve had to contend with “that legendary trio” ahead of them or else he’d have broken through already. If they sign Tchouameni, it would seem that they have some very good players in line to take over!

They will indeed though i rather find it hard to see them ever hitting the heights they did with this legendary triumvirate.
For Valverde himself I think he's on course to have a very illustrious career with Madrid if he doesn't fall pray to their worst habit of going for the more glamorous name than the more useful one at times.

Hard running all night, proper work horse.

That is one of the things that stood out to me last night, the workrate of Vinicius, Valverde and Benzema. Utd tried to build an attack this season with non workers, Ronaldo, Rashford, Greenwood and Sancho barely make an effort at a press between them. It was never going to work, and frankly made the midfield and defenders jobs incredibly difficult. Easy to shit on McFred but until Elanga was given a run they had no-one in front of them, and I include Pogba and Bruno, prepared to sacrifice for the team.

No matter what he achieves in the future, that tackle on Morata will be my favorite moment of his

Has been great ever since Zidane gave him the chance. Love the guy.

A bit wasted as a CM with that pace of his. Think he's better off on the flanks as a winger or wingback.

Yeah, things don't often pan out as we expect - especially when it comes to talented youngsters filling in and taking over from legends. We, as United fans, know this all too well as well. A couple of years in football is a long, long time and things change quickly.

Our long term first choice midfield should be:
Valverde——Camavinga——Soler (easy games)
Valverde——Camavinga——Tchouameni (hard games)

Soler looks kinda average to be honest, not sure if he's Madrid quality.

Respectfully disagree … is 25, is a leader, has a fighting spirit, passes well, great energy, positionally disciplined and this season has added goals to his game. He plays for a Valencia who are completely garbage, so it may affect your judgement.

Maybe your right we'll see, he seems to be on the cusp of a move to Barcelona so whether you lot get him or barca does we'll find out if he cuts it at the top level or not.

He's everything some of our deluded fans believe McTominay is.

Absolute warrior, never stops running. Would love having a player like him.

In one passage of play like night I remember him recovering about 50 yards on a Liverpool player.
I don't think I've ever seen anyone that fast on a long run.

I haven't been overly impressed with him, he had a lot of energy and defends well but on the ball he didn't do much in the quarters or semis. He does remind me a lot of Park though. Huge mileage and even the assist was something Park would pop up with.

A very useful squad member to have, technical and energetic, but I don't think he's quite elite enough to be one of the central 3 long term.

Class isn't he.

For a country of only 3m or so Uruguay produced an extraordinary amount of world class players with great attitudes to match.

Played well tonight. Lovely intensity in his play and creates so much space when he drives forward from deep.

He's class. Can play CM, CDM, RB and now he's proving to be a really good RW as well.

He's got fight in him, really love him as a player. Wish we can get someone like him in our squad.

If Park was his size and could strike a ball that hard he'd have been a consistent starter for us.

Everyone was certain that they would “collapse” when Casemiro, Kroos and Modric left. And yet they have Valverde and Tchouameni easing into place and a promising 19 year old Camavinga waiting in the wings. Let’s just be happy they sold Ødegaard at least

Sad to see it, but Madrid are a brilliantly run club. Planning is miles ahead. Selling Varane / Casemiro / Ronaldo for good money when they understand players have peaked. Planning for the future by investing in the right talent (Camavinga/Tchoumeni). They understand the need to replace Benzema soon hence the all out push for Mbappe (though it didn’t work because he bailed).

Jealous of what a well oiled machine they are.

Kroos and Modric haven’t left yet and both start regularly..

Agree with the fact they are transitioning very well though so far

Had a very good game today too. Very imposing physically, very good taking decisions, complete, dangerous shot out of the area.

Top 3 midfielder in the world right now, according to Kroos.
