Who potentially replaces Ronaldo?

I can't imagine the sort of stuff he will pull when he starts seeing Messi banging them in in the CL and he's made to stay at United. You'll be paying him 500k pw for him to play half the games and spent the other half on the bench or faking injuries.
Best to end it "amicably" and start building for the future.

Fulham would barely want this trio of targets :nervous:
Messi hasn't exactly been banging them in at all since moving to PSG.

Pretty sure Martinez and Schick are too expensive this summer. People, including me, are listing realistic options and not pipe dreams.
No, you guys are not being realistic. If he leaves, it frees up a ton of wage room. We would have plenty of money to buy a good player. Also, you should know how the club operates now. We would want a big-ish name to replace him for the commercial aspect of it all alone.

Whenever I've watched him last season he was utter crap.
Admittedly he was better in Leverkusen the previous season, but I do think he was alright last season as well.
My take on him is that he’s a proven goalscorer with great finishing abilities, decent in the build up (link up), and offers something different then what we have today meaning he provides us a better variety of options. Still young ish enough to develop further as he enters his “peak years”. And his price is attractive.

He’s no prime Ronaldo though, but neither is Ronaldo..

Guess we'll see if we splash £80m on a striker this summer if Ronaldo leaves. I'd be pleasantly over the moon.

All of these could help us get Europa League next year
You wouldn't have them as the sole strikers but as a third and fourth choice. These are 15-20m depth buys. Even with Ronaldo we should have been looking at players like that. If we can't pick up a marquee forward doesn't need we should ignore this as well.

And as far as rating these players , I'm not certain how class they would be just that it's the best of the league I can think of outside the top four.

What I am certain about is the cafe terribly underrates players in the league until it's in your face wrong. Jota, Hojiberg and Mane being very recent examples

If Ronaldo leaves, I have the feeling ETH would use the Ronaldo money towards Antony this summer and not buy a proper #9 IMO. He’d go for a striker next season.

So that he can score less than 5 goals in all competitions and be "injured" for half a season?
Remember the time before ronaldo swooped in and told him to feck off and took his shirt off his back.

You think the sanest answers are two players that will cost over £100m?
Wouldn't the numbers be closer to 80? I do think Felix is special and will be a really great all-around 9 for the next decade. He's very good dropping deep but also has the athleticism to be a threat in the box. Nknuku jumps off the screen when you watch him less, but seems like he'd link up really nicely and is mentally ready to be the main man on a big team, which I'm less sure of for Felix at the moment.

Better to spend 80M on a great player than 60M on a good one like Arsenal did with Lacazette, and I do think the market is pretty ugly at the moment.

He has played for Fulham in the prem. One of the worst sides I've seen in recent years. He was also younger then.

I'd take him over rashford upfront
Yeah, I'd take Mitrovic for sure, but I think Fulham would demand an insane fee as he signed a long term deal (same as Shick). He'd be great in the 20 or so league matches and 5-10 cup matches where we expect to have the ball a ton. I wrote it up proper somwhere else but I think his scoring record in International football in Europe is basically even with Lukaku and Cristiano the last 5 years and nobody else is close.

Not sure Mitrovic is a great idea because you'd have to compensate Fulham for the fact they would be gambling away their chances of PL survival, which is worth a lot more than Mitrovic ever would be. I happen to think he's going to do decently this year.

No because it never happened. Cavani surrendered his shirt because an all time great and club legend just returned and Cavani is comparatively a nobody who isn't silly enough to stand in his way.

Not to mention, all this fanfiction aside Cavani was absolutely dreadful last season. Even igahlo would be an upgrade

Yeah think that's a very real possibility but leaves us unbelievably short in the forward line

Dybala on a free for a year or two. Tomorrow's papers saying we've been in touch with his agent.

The legions of fans demanding ronaldo get the shirt alongwith the media spectacle put pressure on cavani to concede and then surrender his shirt. He had already experienced the nonsensical racism ruling and not being backed by the club earlier.

Cavani turned to shit after ronaldo arrived, he wasn't before. I'd take a nobody cavani over ronaldo now in ten hag's setup.

They're in a weird place. They apparently have 11 current first team players (including Paulinha) so selling Mitrovic for 30M might get let them buy 3 new players, but tough to see how they don't go down.

My guess is our actual business with them would be loaning them a player and one of Jones or Bailly going there for next to nothing. One of our young wingers, Hannibal or Garner might do well their this season if they're really short of bodies.

Nobody mentioning Alvaro Morata, who everyone hates (I used to think unfairly but his finishing has never improved) but he links up very well, has played 43+ club games every year for like 8 in a row so is durable, Spain's first choice as a 9 and has fallen out with Simeone. Could see him doing okay as a stopgap.

They want 25M pounds for him and he has 2 years left, but maybe for 15-20M or so it would make sense, though a loan makes the most sense for us, but not for Atletico, unless they're desperate to get his wages off the books and think he'd do well enough here that they could get the 15M next summer (even with one year left) and a 6-7M loan fee or so to get them close to their number.

If that's the reason he turned to shit, that Ronaldo of all people got his number 7 shirt, then that says a lot more about Cavani than anyone else.

Cavani should be the last excuse to use against Ronaldo, dude was on holiday all the time and barely made himself available. His second season was the worst attitude by ManUtd player in 20 years.

What about Icardi on a season-long loan?
If we are on a limited budget, I can see no better option.
Give the new scout team a whole season to get the job done and no excuses next summer.

What are our scouts doing ? Surely they have a list of available strikers.
What? Strikers are not someone you go out and get a bargain in ligue 1 unknown. Add in to that we don’t have any money

I'm afraid it will be Morata on loan. Never understood how this guy could play for: Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid, Juventus and Chelsea.

Given Ronaldo is probably out, this means Martial will have to stay for at least another season. Hopefully ETH can improve his level to a point where he gets about 15-20 goals for the season backed up by goals from Rashford and Sancho. He's done it before when made the no 1 striker, so maybe that and wanting to make the French WC squad gives him some motivation.

If Martial is staying for the upcoming season and given that there are no outstanding candidates to break the bank on, we are going to have to gamble on a young striker who can bed in during the season and take over from Martial as the no 1 striker the following season.

Scamacca and Ekitike are probably the 2 best candidates with my preference for Ekitike, as he probably has the higher upside in the long run. There's a reason that Bayern and PSG are known to have been looking at him.

no one is improving martial, he had a chance to restart in a slightly less physical league, with a club playing to his strengths and barely mustered one goal, his performances were shocking too.

the two you mentioned are going to be extortionately priced this summer, if we bid they are going to want big payouts.

most likely is icardi or we play eriksen as a false 9

We will go back to Martial and Rashford fighting for the CF position until Christmas at least. But I do think we will bring in Antony also.

Sounds a good plan to see through this season
