Think Chelsea is the only team who is willing to take him. Would explain the released from contract rumours - we made it clear from early that we wouldn’t sell to a rival.
And rightfully so...and this is exactly why the release will never be granted. Instead of selling to a rival he would go for free. Thats madness...

I said it earlier. I'd do a Werner swap straight up. Otherwise let him rot in training and the bench. We owe him nothing at this point.

I don't think it's worth showing who is stronger and stomping our foot down.

Negotiate a termination even if it costs us some money. In the long run we'd be better off because this drama is just not worth it

If we let him rot on the bench he'll just pick his wages and not show up for training. He won't care about Qatar since his spot there is guaranteed.

Really disappointing to see a great career end like a twat.
He has always been a twat in fairness. We took him back like idiots and he completely fecked up our season.

ETH must man up, time to show he is in charge and not the diva.

This is a critical moment in his tenure.

Hope we wouldnt be stupid enough to let that happen.

That said Werner is one of the last strikers in world football that I'd want t play for us.

Yup - still up there as one of our best ever players. The club and Ronaldo are not in the same place right now - a move suits everyone.
Given the sheer lack of interest from the Elite for someone of his stature and caliber over the last 2 summers, I'd say we're in a lot closer place than you think

It was reported by that Man Utd fella who has ties to Ronaldo that he had an agreement with Chelsea already before Tuchel personally vetoed the move. Think a Chelsea move is a nonstarter even on a free since Tuchel rightly believes it'd be a wrong fit and would have negative ramifications in his dressing room

People would keep him 'rotting' on the bench for 400k a week rather than let him go on a free?

If we miss out on a transfer by 20million next summer, we'll know why

The Sainz bloke? Wouldnt rule it out still as Boehly wants to make a marquee signing apparently.

We signed him for 2 years, he played 1. So tell him to pay us half the transfer fee (£7.5M?) and then he can feck off.
We signed him on a 2+1 so we should activate the 3rd year now and put his fee up tell Chelsea we’ll see for £25M plus Kante that’s a good deal

Disappointed is an understatement.

In case he wants to leave us and don’t want to fulfill his earlier commitments then let him buy himself out of his contract. £15m. No mercy.

What are the odds that Barca nip in and nick him from Chelsea like they did with kounde and raphinha?

Let's have it right, he has to go, there is no making him rot. We are talking about one of the most high profile sportsman on the planet.

He's making a media storm that would totally derail any progress we've made this summer.

Write off the fee, the transfer served its purpose. City didn't get him, it was worth the return to prevent them rubbing it in our faces as he scored the goals that fired them to the Champions league.

Yea I wrote Man Utd and it got changed to Man Utd automatically

Don't think Boehly would impose a signing on his manager yet, he's already learning the hard way how the football business is this summer.

If you start letting any player...let alone Ronaldo...out of contracts you cant sell so they can move on for free anywhere you are opening a massive pandoras box for years to come. I would actually imagine other clubs would be pissed at the precedent.

No matter how great it would be to get rid of the issue...we need to either sell or keep him.

We should free him from his contract. Not just because we'll see the back of him but because we don't want to be accused of treating him like a slave...

I just dont want to see that move happen at all.

Being completely objective, how many world class players would want to join this version of united? We really arent all that anymore and without EL football we definitely aren't. Look at Kane last summer, similar situation to be honest.

The reality is we're not a great proposition until Ten Hag hopefully gets us back in the CL and builds something.

I doubt Tuchel is there after the World Cup anyway, Chelsea are having a shocking summer and look woefully underprepared for the new season and in saying that I am basically paraphrasing Tuchel himself. If Boehly can get a brand name like CR7 for free to market his new team back in the states he is going to tell Tommy to have a coke and a smile and shut up.

We've replaced Rudi with Koulibali. We've replaced Lukaku with Sterling. We've replaced Saul with Gallagher.

Ok, we've not yet replaced Andreas Christensen but "shocking summer"? Hardly.

I think Chelsea would take him, but we wouldn't sell to them. If we release him he goes there for free, pocketing a huge sign on bonus, and very importantly a huge bonus for Mendes.
Well if he’s going to end up there anyway (and I agree it’s more likely to be there than Atlético or Bayern) we might as well get a fee.

Good point re. Mendes. It looks like he’s trying to milk Ronnie for all he can before the latter does actually retire. He’s woefully misjudged the market though, making himself look incompetent and his client a has-been. It isn’t exactly going to enhance his reputation with current and potential clients, nor with the clubs he’s going to be selling to.

Another game of chess for United here….

Ronaldo wants out, champions league and a signing on fee…

Ten Hag and the team would want him out as he most likely wouldn’t have the fitness or willingness to fit the system and humility to be a team member for the future..

The finance department would love him to stay for the sponsors and selling future sponsorship and most likely one of the reasons United suggested a loan.

He would still be a United player and other teams wouldn’t be in a position to use him in advertising. If Ronaldo were to appear in a Nike shirt for a year Adidas wouldn’t be happy, Team Viewer wouldn’t be happy if he turned up in a competitor shirt etc etc…but if we loan him we protect our sales of sponsorship and he can’t use his popularity to gain another deal, he can only use his football skills..

If we let him go free he can go where he wants and give rival teams across Europe sponsorship money, from advertisers and most likely have us repay money to sponsors….

He needs to either buy out his contract and repay United their fee and loss of sponsorship, train hard and become a team member or spend time in the reserves.

I personally would prefer the first or second option, it would be too much of distraction with the third but we can’t give in..

Most of our fans like to live in the delusion that we've not had the worst summer of the top 6.

He'll be worth half of last seasons transfer fee (£7.5m?) on the balance sheet which the club won't want to write off as a loss. But really it's not the worst deal to just let him go, cut our losses and move on.

Don't get me wrong, there's plenty of hand-wringing going on by some of the more muppety Chelsea fans because we don't sign every single player we are linked with.

Also, you've not had a bad summer at all. Eriksen is great, your manager gets in a CB he knows & trusts plus a prospect backup LB. You're not done either.

Yeah definitely, he's not moving Ronaldo on without a huge fee for himself. So a mutual termination becomes the best option for him. Doubt anyone is paying a transfer fee, the bonus he'd be after, and Ronaldo's wages and probably a sign on bonus for him too.

So negotiation position one from Mendes is to request mutual termination. Also, are we SURE that no one wants him? This could be a ploy to get a better deal for both Mendes and his new club.

We should let him go because he's a virus to the team morale, on 400k a week, and doesn't fit the new manager's style.

If other clubs want to pay for him, all the better. But seriously, which big club has a problem paying 5M for Ronaldo if they really wanted him? Nobody really wants him.

Yep, can’t cave in on something like that, shouldn’t even be an option.

If he's truly okay by with just being released from his contract then that's a huge win for us IMO. 26m saved just getting rid of him
