we need to start adding pace into this team, we severely lack pace in central mid and defence. Varane is our quickest central player and even he isn't as quick as he once was. I haven't seen a ton of De Light play, but correct me if I'm wrong, he's never looked the quickest

Erik ten Hag will have more than enough time to download FM and buy de Ligt and all his other former players in the summer.

Even if ETH survived, question should be raised for the supposed new recruitment team if we again went for a high profile probably sizeable fee Ajax product, since we don't play like Ajax at all. Also PL pace and physicality can be unforgiving for slower player. Martinez and another slow partner would be recipe for disaster when we have a hole in midfield, and a work in progress attack. We would be slaughtered by counter attack.

How about we appoint a proper DOF and HOR and let them decide who we should be targeting? The manager chasing after his former players routine is getting very boring now.

If Bayern allow to make this mistake because of Tuchel we must pounce. I dont give a shit whether ETH is at the helm or not. Its too great a chance to pass up
He is third choice at Bayern since his build up play isn’t as good as Kim‘s or Upa‘s. He mostly looks for sideways passes and is quite slow with them while the other two are far more vertical in their game.
I can see Bayern selling him, if they sign another CB.

I like the way Bayern have recruited recently, fast and strong.

Nah. He is 3rd choice because Tuchel just isn't serious. Being unadventurous with the ball or poor at distribution has never been a valid accusation about him since his Ajax days. Nagelsmann for example got out brilliant passing from him consistently. The only valid reason to play the other two over him is their out right pace compared to him. Never on the ball footballing ones.

Eventually we’ll have eleven Ajax players and still it won’t be possible to play Ajax football.
Haha exactly this.
Haven’t monitored his time at Bayern but I’m far from convinced he is the real deal.
Bayern not playing him and buying Kim instead would suggest they think he’s not.

A loan with option to buy would be great, but otherwise no. He gets injured a lot.

A younger version of a peak Maguire. Doesn’t fit the profile of the football we should be trying to play.
A better and younger version but i do think they are comparable as players. Where Harry Maguire is basically immobile, de Ligt is just slow. Where Maguire just cant turn, de Ligt turns like a truck.

It’s exactly the sort of signing we should be avoiding at all costs.

Not what we need. Decent player but not made for the PL. He'd get found out pretty quickly due to his speed and he's not got a good injury record lately.

He was one of the biggest talents in the world when he was 17 and 18 years old, but the last couple of years he hasn’t developed that great. If he’s not even a starter in the German league, would he be good enough for the Premier league. Although Bayern have some other good central defenders in Upamecano and Kim.

This is a stupid argument since this is not about the league he is in, but the club he is playing for.

Let’s agree to disagree.

De Ligt is fast enough, for some reason people see him and think he's big, he must be slow. He actually isn't

He's fast enough to counter an accelerating Mbappe, so surely he's not that slow.

I'd rather keep Maguire and let him build his confidence up again. Peak Maguire is about the same level as peak de Ligt, whether that's an unpopular opinion or not. Very similar profiles as well.

Ideally, though, I'd get someone who's more athletic, has frightening pace, and long limbs. VVD/Saliba type. That's what we are lacking and could pair that type of CB with anyone.

EDIT: One of the reasons I think ten Hag might want de Ligt over Maguire or other "slower" CBs is that he can probably receive the ball with his back, and in tighter situations under pressure better than Maguire and the likes.

Aren't you the guy who bigs up every Ajax player?
only the actual good ones. But there is/was no reason for me here to bitch and moan about players like Haller/Klaassen/Bergwijn here.
