Cricket

Yea you are.
I’d be rightfully told to get fecked if at my job I had to take 4 months for this. It’s unfortunate that it happened but there’s also a distribution of how much break people take and I’ve never heard someone take 4 months for this.

You aren't in the top 1% of what you do (I'm making this assumption). Professional sportsperson is not just antother job. If so, people would be calling Pant an idiot, would be disgusted by Pandya playing for India etc. But we don't. All rules are different.

I don't think the issue is playing. It's being away from home and his family - that's quite understandable.

If there was an England home series soon, he'd be back to playing sooner knowing he can still be around his family.

And he's missing the IPL - and let's be honest, nearly all of the overseas players only play it for the money. They have no loyalty or drive beyond money to show up for it. So it was probably an easy choice to just leave the cash on the table for one season.

Exciting first day between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka all out for 280 with two players making centuries (both out for 102). Pretty sure that's a new record for a side being bowled out.

Previous lowest innings total with two centurions was South Africa making 296 in Kolkata.

CC starting up again today.

Sam Northeast approaching a double century for Glamorgan.

Surely deserves a call up if he can sustain a little form. Scoring 410 last season should have woken the selectors up a bit.

Sam Northeast with 335 NO, though at 34 don’t know how much the selectors will be looking at him.

What a win for Bangladesh, Pakistan just collapsed in the second innings. Poor shot selection all round.

Don't think our team has ever been this bad since I started following cricket in the mid 90's. Though it's the players that ultimately go on the field and play, the biggest culprits are the guys at the top. With the constant change of chairmans in the last 5 years and who then bring their own coaches every time, and the drama behind captaincy, I don't expect a group of players to be playing consistently at a high level.

Also a bizzare decision not to have a specialist spinner in the side for this match.

Was just listening to a Twitter space on which Dr Zaf who is the head of sports medicine at Arsenal right now and he famously managed Shaheen in 2022. He had some very strong words on how bad the fitness stuff is in Pakistan and how the players are being crushed with little support

Azhar Mahmood, our bowling coach, came up with an all time line: "We didn't fail to read the pitch. It didn't act like the way we wanted to"

He's literally gaslighting the pitch rather than accepting his on incompetence

I said it at the time, when he returned before the 2022 world cup, that we're potentially ruining him by bringing him back way to early from injury. He was bowling at 70% compared to his brilliant form before his injury and he has never recovered since then.

We have no understanding of sports fitness. The whole world rests their pace bowlers and don't let them play all three formats while our coaches say workload management is nonsense and if someone is fit they should play.

I really envy how India managed Bumrahs injury, they even let a potential t20 world cup go by by not letting return from injury early. The result they got as a Bumrahs who was not only fully ready for international cricket but looked even better than before. It's obviously a joke to compare Shaheen and Bumrah now but pre-injury both were locked in as the best pace bowlers in all three formats.

Has Gillespie not made a difference as a Coach?

Has Gillespie not made a difference as a Coach?

This is his first series so can't say what difference he can make immediately. He, and our white ball coach, Kirsten, don't stay with the team though and only join when there is a series, which is a fecking joke in itself that we hired part-time consultants as coaches

Parents are at the Sussex match. Going well for the Sharks at the moment. Great to finally see Archer bowl in the T20 this year for Sussex.

Leicestershire have just avoided a bit of unwanted history, earlier this morning they were 15/7, have now 'recovered' to 79/9!

Archie Vaughan is opening the batting for Somerset and is 44 NO, after making his debut batting 7 the other week.
Rocky Flintoff has been dropped by Lancashire after 2 games.

Ash and Jadeja are amazing cricketers. India may struggle to replace them. They are proper all rounders.

Why the feck is KL Rahul batting at 6? If you're a top order batsman that can't get in the top order, perhaps you shouldn't be in the middle order either. They're so lucky to have 2 top class spinning all rounders.

I wouldn't call Ashwin an all rounder outside of Asia but havent' checked the stats so maybe i'm being unfair.

Jadeja can bat anwyhere.

Nah you're right. He's much better at home though, to be honest, Jadeja has been phenomenal with the bat so we havent need Ashwin as much.
