And it’s not even that much money he has to spend. What a broken system.

Am I understanding it right in that he will now basically serve the remaining three years by appearing before a court once a week?

Misleading headline. He's out on bail pending appeal. If the verdict is upheld, he still has to serve the rest of his sentence.

I'm guessing he'll never have to spend another day in prison. What a fecking piss take.

No, his case is currently being appealed. During this period he is out on bail and has to appear before a court once a week as part of his bail conditions.

If the verdict is upheld, back to prison he goes. If overturned, he's free.

Has Memphis been involved in something as well?
No but one of his good friends may be free!

This if from yesterday I think when he joined up with the national team:

“The Quincy Promes you read about is not the Quincy Promes that I know. I don’t know the Quincy Promes that’s on trial. He will continue to be my friend.

“People should realise that I come from a difficult environment. My brother was also in jail for ten years and I was almost never asked about it. But it is about Promes. (Benjamin) Mendy and Dani Alves are my friends too. I don’t know the Quincy as they describe it. That doesn’t mean I’m saying they’re doing things right or supporting everything they do, but I won’t let them. That’s just not me.”

Have a read of Depay’s tweet at the time of Mendy’s trial. The ‘friendship’ seems to be entirely based upon Depay’s victim/target athlete view of the world. He seems like quite a single issue voter.

This was posted after Mendy was exonerated though, so I'm not sure it's the best comparison

What comparison? I said he believes athletes are targeted (“we can’t allow this to happen to us as athletes) and gave three examples, two of whom have guilty verdicts against them and one of whom he sought out to support before trial for multiple rape charges and even after the not guilty verdict continued to support him despite, in his own words “I didn’t know all the details, but I’ve spoken to him once true FaceTime while behind bars and faced him on the pitch a couple times.. I didn’t see any evil in the man.”

The exoneration is largely irrelevant to the point I’m making about Depay. Unless you want to give him bonus points for not believing multiple accusers, despite not knowing all of the details or having spoken to the accuser beyond one FaceTime call.

Memphis is a bozo for supporting these degenerates, but what are you basing this on?

Even, if he has a victim/target/persecution complex, it doesn't mean that's what their/his friendship is based on. A lot of these guys run in the same party and life style circuits and are likely in groupchats together and stuff.

I’m basing it on his actual words. He had never socialised with the guy and he suddenly felt the need to FaceTime him while he was in prison accused of multiple counts of rape. Maybe he was just calling to reminisce about all of the parties and lifestyle circuits they didn’t attend together. But sure, if you prefer, let’s just say it’s how their ‘friendship’ started.

I don't get the need for the extra sassiness in your reply. I simply asked what you were basing that statement on because I don't think we've read that tweet similarly. I didn't take "I spoke to him once on FT whilst he was behind bars and the couple times I faced him on the pitch I sensed no evil" to mean that he's actually only ever spoke to him once. Depay's not a native english speaker, so I just took that to mean that he's only spoken to him once since he's been behind bars, not that they've actually ever only spoken once - since it's a bit odd to just facetime a person you don't know

in any case, I didn't mean any hostility towards you and I did say him choosing to continuously speak for degenerates is crazy
