Coventry City vs Manchester United | FA Cup SF Build-up Thread

He’s suspended I thought ?
Amad not suspended ,red card means he will miss your next game, but Kasey palmer who got one yellow for celebrating Sky blues goal against wolves has been suspended for the semi because he was booked in a previous round. fecking joke two yellows in one game no suspension but two in separate game does. ?

That is scandalous.

He should’ve just booted the ball away at the very end to get sent off so he’d only miss 1 league game!

This was the draw we all prayed for, no disrespect to Coventry, but they were probably praying for it too! After the incredible heroics of the Liverpool match we must be favourites, but with the way things have been going all season Im taking nothing for granted. How many times have we seen total crap following good or very good ones as with Liverpool? We need to be totally focussed and up for it from now until the last game of the season and unfortunately too many of our players have the habit of switching off after good performances. Lets hope they dont let us down again, theres been too many false starts and restarts this season already!

This used to be Coventry City's collectable Panini sticker. How cool is that? For this reason, it is a great shame they've become a non-entity from the heady heights of being a perennial fixture in the top division in England for a fair few decades.

They aren't even a footnote these days and it will be one hell of an occasion for them, playing us, at Wembley.

We better not lose this , I have spent the last few days going into super gloat overload to any Liverpool fans I know , it would be beyond embarrassing if we were then to be knocked out by Coventry.

Watch their highlights against Wolves, Coventry look like a proper dangerous team.
If they play like that against us, they'll probably score a couple.
This is absolutely no easy ride to the final.

Just a thought, if we make the Final, does that mean qualification for the Europa League (if its against City)

If we win this and City beat Chelsea then as it stands we will go in to the Europa regardless of what happens in the final

These semi final's shouldnt be played at Wembley, they should have played this one at Villa Park with only the final being at Wembley.

It is correct

Nope. The winner of the FA Cup gets a spot in the Europa League if they need it (meaning if they haven't qualified through the league). If the winner doesn't need the spot, it goes to the highest placed team in the Premier League not already qualified for Europe. It does not go to the runner up in the FA Cup.

It is only correct, if you assume we maintain our 6th position. If we finish 7th or lower, we are not guaranteed a Europa League spot by playing Man City in the final.

If City win it then the spot goes to the team 6th in the league which is still us

Yeah they haven't been played outside of Wembley since 2007 (the year that the new stadium opened)

there will be 5 CL spots.. 6th will get EL anyway.. there is a good chance 7th gets EL because of the FA cup.

There are a number of good stadiums across the country now. Unfortunately the FA is trying to pay off Wembley's debt.

I hope the FA reconsider for next year, there are plenty of good choices

How embarrassing would it be to lose to a club that's not so much as a footnote in the football of world, think of all those fake Sky blues and scousers pointing and laughing at you

Unfortunately a long term contract for Wembley semis was signed so no chance they change it - IIRC it's a 30 year agreement

2007/08 League Cup at OT.

United line up was:

PIG
Bardsley
Evans
Pique
Simpson
Nani
Martin
O'Shea
Anderson
Eagles
Dong

2-0 loss.

its mental to think that Johnny Evans will probably feature against them again

I unfortunately was at this game, I remember struggling to give a ticket away for free as everyone knew Fergie would send out a reserve team

At the time it was right at the top of the list of worst ever matches I remember at Old Trafford, but we've had plenty more contender's for that list in recent times

Surely given performances, we're clear underdogs for this one?
Would any of our players bar Mainoo even make their bench on current form?

I'll get my coat

Yeah, for now. We could finish lower.
We really could finish lower. We are 6 points away from Spurs and potentially Aston Villa (we have game in hand and they 9 points ahead). Conversely, we are potentially only 5 points above Brighton and Chelsea, 6 points ahead of West Ham (including game in hand).

If we have City to play in final, I see a few plusses:

- They will have played a massive amount of games if they progress in Champions league
- Our pride - having lost to them last year we'll want revenge?
- Our belief if we get them to overtime we have a better chance, ala Liverpool (yes I'm grasping at straws)

Why is the elephant slipping with it's right back leg?

I keep seeing the FA made 'a 30 year pledge' in 2006 but the only actual contract situation seems to be with debenture holders whose deals end in 2027. It's their stadium and their competition so not sure who they'd actually have a 30 year deal with for the cup games. The FA don't give a toss about fans so they'll obviously keep the games at Wembley as long as they can but from what I can see they don't actually have to after 2027.

After that performance tonight can we honestly trust this group of United players to overcome Coventry?
The worrying thing is Coventry are basically the same as Brentford. Play the same system, same style of play. Two target man forwards who they lump the ball too. Winning second balls, direct etc.
The game is a lot more 50/50 than people might think.
