Southampton don’t really have a leg to stand on, how can they possibly demand more than a year when that’s his notice period?
To allow him to start straight away. Similar to Ashworth. It’s within our interest to have him start ASAP. If we’ve offered 12 months salary (notice period) as compo, every day they delay, the more tempting it becomes.

Neh Fletcher will stay I reckon, his role is a conduit from youth players to move up, and apparently does a good job. Could potentially be a change of job title on the horizon though.

12 months notice is totally unreasonable in any case. 3 months is the norm for an 'executive' position.
Unfortunately it isnt, 3 months would go to "middle management" in most businesses of a reasonable size. 6 months notice is fairly standard and 12 months for a director is fairly normal where going to a competitor.

It won’t actually be like this but does feel like everything we try to do is a lot harder than other clubs as it becomes big news and these clubs don’t want to be seen as weak. It’s annoying af.

How many people in this world are loyal to their employers? If this lad was offered a (most likely) better paying post at a bigger institution, would he have turned it down? This is a job for these people. It's stupid to expect people to be 'loyal to the project'

In some clubs the roles are incredibly similar and synonymous. Ashworth however would have more say over who is bought and sold as usually a director of football deals with players in and out of the club more so than a technical director who in this role will likely be more about who is already in the building and dealing with staff more so than players (I think and am basing this of an average structure at other clubs).

So planning with the technical director if we lose player X what qualities are we missing so we can scout a replacement player Y etc.

A typical technical directors would be involved in the following:
  • Performance at various levels (academy through to first team) including analysis
  • Sports Science Depts (working closely)
  • Talent ID
  • Long term strategic planning related to football outcomes

Agree it does, we've got 2 execs waiting to join and potentially having to wait a year for both, surely there's a better route to find the right people?! We're going to end up with a playing squad and no execs next season at this rate :lol:

As far as I understand, and I might be very wrong, a director of football oversees the playing department. They help identify transfers (or at some clubs in extreme circumstances may even have complete control over them), they negotiate transfers and player contracts. That kind of thing. They'll meet with scouts, the manager and CEO or owners.

Technical directors do the same for non-playing staff. Identifying changes needed to the scouting department, medical team, data analysis department, nutritionists, in some cases coaches. They'll meet with the chief scout, head physio, lead sports science guys etc as well talking things through with the manager and perhaps the Dof too to implement changes within all these non-playing departments. They're ultimately the boss of most of the non-playing staff.

In some cases you could even have a first team, reserve team and academy technical director all as separate jobs.

I think sometimes directors of football are also the boss of technical directors but don't quote me on that. :lol:

Well yeah you can. As far as I'm aware they're unenforceable in practice. In my old job people would just feck off and we couldn't do anything about it. It was only two week's notice as well... Pricks

He’ll be gone. Loved Dazza but he’s not best in class.
I doubt it.

A- ineos won't sack former players
B- fletcher did a decent job helping youth players to move in the first team
C- his twins seems to be quite decent players

Well fair point, it obviously wasn't. It was only two weeks. So probably wasn't worth the effort and cost.

If we're will to compensate them with a year's pay they're hardly going to go legal on it, are they?
