Whilst I agree, he tried some extremely silly passes at 3-2 in the last minutes that turned over possession far too easily. He'll learn, but he needs some serious help in there with recruitment this summer.
Yeah, I did say it's his worst performance for us but that is expected from a young player. There are other players on that pitch, especially in midfield that should know better i.e Bruno.

Was not the game for him...utterly ridiculous game where we seemed to mostly vacate midfield and then expect mainoo to still have a foothold. Not a good game but he was set up to fail.

Not a great game from the young man, but of course we were open, but look at who he has beside him? And look at the coach? And then SMT?

Mainoo is probably thinking what's going on.

Some bright moments, but mostly a poor game from him today. Found himself ahead of the ball in positions that don't really suit his strengths quite a lot.

I'm concerned with how he's being used tactically. Stylistically, he's something like a De Jong or Verratti type, but Ten Hag wants him to be Frank Lampard for some reason. I think I'll go to my grave not knowing what the feck we're trying to do with our midfield this season.

You really shouldn't be playing Mainoo every match but then you look at the alternatives and see why he is playing every match.

At fault for the first goal with a bad pass. He is just an 18 year old kid so mistakes are bound to happen. Too bad he doesnt have better players around him.

Had periods where he showed his class, but I keep saying. This is an impossible system for anyone to succeed in, there's 0 balance to the team and an impossibly large gap in midfield to cover. Comedy of a game that central midfielders are irrelevant for.

He's a lamb to the slaughter in that midfield.

Such an incredible player, but he needs help and protection or he'll just get overrun and his confidence will get hit.

This system is not good for players like him.
Or any young up and coming midfielder for that matter.

Yeah, if he goes short to Dalot instead of trying to pop it out wide to Bruno we probably win the game, certainly at least a draw.

A little worried he's learning bad habits here, or at least not good ones. One of the main reasons to sack Ten Hag the day the season ends, really.

I would get him out of the team. No need to put any scar tissue on him in a suffering team.

Let the players on hundreds of thousands a week step up.
This season is a loss. I'd say let's keep him getting those needed minutes. It's like sending our youth on loan to lower League team, where not everything is perfect.

THe next manager may not have style that suit him also. And then what?

We play a 6, a 10 and a something, and the something no matter if it is McTominany, Mainoo, Mount from the start of the season invariably barely touch the ball and spends all their energy trying to press and pick up second balls.

Eriksen and Cas for a spell last season, then a small period when he played Cas and Fred together as a genuine pair, it worked, but he can't stop himself from going back to this set up.
Not only that, we also looked at our BEST with that pairing as Fred was the one that effectively reduced the space that Casemiro needed to cover, and helped to progress the ball as well - this was the most balanced I have seen us in the last 5 years at least, a combination of Oleball with some actual control over the midfield.

Also, every time Casemiro played with Eriksen or someone else we saw he's on a physical decline and we're asking too much of him. But apparently like you said, ETH couldn't help himself and decided to replace Fred with another #10 and push him forward, vacating space in midfield - although I rate Mount, this was simply a wrong transfer strategy.

We're overplaying him. He needs to sit out a few games. He needs to rest, let's not ruin him.

Every player in that Casemiro - Bruno - X position goes missing, is overrun and not really doing enough on either side of the pitch. This is not Mainoo or Mount fault, the system doesn't seem to utilitize those players effectively.

He probably misses playing with his midfield partners in the academy. We actually have players who can control the tempo and pass a ball there.

Yeah. Mainoo got motm for England playing with an experienced world class partner in rice who was clearly helping him through the game. At united he's going to get horribly exposed because he's a kid playing cm almost on his own. It's not really fair on him.

And this manager has a style that suits him? :houllier:

He is often left with two men running at him as there is no cover.

It cannot be healthy for a promising young players development to play in this sort of bizarre non-midfield.

Luckily it should just be for another 2 months max... but if for some bizarre reason ETH stays and it continues to next season, I will be worried.

I think the difference between an 18-year-old of Kobbie's ability and the player he could potentially be at 24 would make a massive difference to the solidity of our team. He's certainly getting an education right now. Hopefully the minutes we are investing will pay dividends.

Should everything go to plan for next few years he'll be playing alongside some real top players in England's midfield with the likes of Rice, Bellingham and Foden.

Hopefully we can build a pool of midfield talent at United as good as, if not better than that.

At the moment it's nowhere near the that standard.

He did not look fit in Chelsea game, same as the Brentford's. He has been played too many matches for an 18 years old and he was sick after the England's call.

I rather we use him a bit less to let him rest and develop properly, this was how SAF managed young players. England can wait, if he get picked that's great, if not it is probably good in the long run for our club. Although I would be excited to see him play in Euro.

I really don't think he is. He should be where he is being played but just with a competent midfield and team supporting him. Lampard was a B2B almost AM, that's not where Mainoo is playing at all, he's in the right areas given his skillset but he needs a De Jong or Veratti behind him more than anything. He's also a kid so will have plenty more bad games in him.

The best thing is that moments never phase him. He takes a touch, assesses the situation and if the dribble, shot or killer pass is on, he just goes for it with complete composure. Given he spends so much of the game on the fringes, it’s amazing he can just switch on like that.

Superstar. Didn't play extraordinary today but still some solid touches.

Goal is one of a few he has scored which are world class.
