Because he scored the winner in the last fixture between them and nobody has scored more than 8 league goals. He could have come on for anyone, nobody is exactly pulling up trees.
Surely if you were bringing Bruno off then Mount would have been the first choice?

Antony's previous 20 games have been dogshit. What's your point?

People are annoyed because we have a top rated youngster that literally doesn't get a single kick when it matters, then miraculously wins us the game against Liverpool in Extra time, and then doesn't get a single fecking minute after said performance. Just because Antony had 1 good game out of his past 30 doesn't excuse that. Logic would indicate that maybe Amad deserves even a third of the opportunities that Antony has gotten to even show how he can function.
It's kind of important that the "one good game in 30" was his last match.

You could easily flip it and say "Antony finally showed some form and then doesn't get a kick". Amad should get more minutes and should have already had them but it doesn't need to be against Liverpool.

I like this kid as much as anyone but there's no argument to be had against Ten Hag here really. He obviously isn't opposed to giving young players a chance, so I'm willing to accept whatever reasons he might have for not playing Amad lately. He'll get his chances and it's up to him to take them

He did take his chance and he's been rewarded with exactly 0 minutes since.

There's probably a reason for that, unless we're suggesting that it's a personal dislike of the player from Ten Hag. That may even be the case, who knows, but I don't think anybody could claim that its because he doesn't trust youth

Antony's last game against Chelsea was better or as good as any performance Amad has ever offered for us and Garnacho is our main goal threat. If Amad came on it would have been fine, it's also not an issue that he didn't.
Well, it is an issue since Antony have got loads of chances and served up about 5 good performances in two seasons.
Yes his work ethic is good, he is a fighter, but apart from that he has offered well below the standard we need from an attacker. We need more. Sure, he is still on the young side and could improve a bit. But why not give Amad a fair chance, here and now?
Who knows. He could improve us and help us win games, like he did against Liverpool.

What? Antony has played in 25 pl games this season and Amad 2.

Are you saying we shouldn't question why an exciting young player who's proven to make a difference is is held on the bench by a guy who's had 1 decent game and 24 almost comically bad?

Let me reiterate: a winger who has 0 goals and 1 assist in 25 pl games, and the only worse than his stats is the underpinning performances.
This person is chosen ahead of a talent who has put in a really good shift when given the chance, and is in a crucial period of development where game time is of the greatest importance.

I also know Pizza Hut serves pizza if you have any questions.

It's been suggested, and I'm concerned that's the case; part of the INEOS review can be negative for ETH due to his signings. And he is desperate to make Antony prove his worth.

I mean, every United pundit is asking this question too, it's really weird and it looks incredibly stupid.

Imagine that the reason behind the decision might not be for the best..

I haven't claimed that. There's something weird going on with Amad because he's been pretty good in his limited time and very good against Liverpool but has been completely overlooked by our incompetent manager.

Our incompetent full time young player-transitioner Darren Fletcher said it was because he is slowly learning in-game tactics, but maybe any of our highly competent internet comentators can give a counter-analysis of his tactical adherence based on his 45 mins of playing time? How hard can it be?

He also said Amad needed a moment and he took that opportunity vs Liverpool, showing he does put in the work off the ball whilst providing technical quality. You agreed with him, going as far as saying Amad had an on field epiphany.. Now you're implying he still has work to do before getting minutes? What more can he do, sat on the bench twiddling his thumbs? He needs game time, and Ten Hag has so far starved him of it.

Why not? Meh no reason. Why not play Antony when he just had a good performance against Chelsea. Either is fine.

I'm not saying it would be an issue if Amad had come on. Just in this specific time I don't get the outrage.

He scored the winner vs Liverpool, one of the biggest moments post SAF, a few weeks ago. Don't you think it would've been the decent thing to do to give him a run out? It just feels harsh, plus we need his ability on the pitch, he's a great player.

He's a great player?

I think this is where the disagreement actually stems from. He looks a decent enough young player to me. I hope we get to see more from him.

Was very decent in that Liverpool match and obviously scoring that goal was a great moment and he took it very well.

Calling him a great player seems a bit ludicrous to me based on what he's shown to date but that is where the disagreement comes from which I get. If I thought he was a great player I'd be fuming that he was on the bench for Antony too.

Yeah, he's a wide playmaker that specializes in keeping hold of possession, whilst creating and scoring goals. We don't have playmakers from wide whilst we have Rashford and Garnacho so he brings something new to the table. Statistically we're not good at the possession game, especially in the final third, we have a player that will help with that yet he's severely underused, hence the fan frustration.

I said I hoped as much, and I believe also that he is going to get more opportunities going forward. But there is no guarantee, and there is no guarantee those minutes are going to come against Chelsea away or Liverpool, when the CL spot hangs in the balance and the game swings to the dying breath.

It’s bad luck for Amad that Antony regained some form in the same game, and that Mason Mount is coming back from injury right now as well, while we have forced subs elsewhere on the pitch through injuries. Looking at those two games, it’s hard to see exactly where Amad would be an obvious sub.

Still, based on what Fletcher said, it’s not as though there is a mystery why he isn’t displacing Garnacho, Rashford or Antony overnight. And it’s nothing to do with general application.

I think the match going fans need to help the kid, when I watch Basketball the fans call on the player they want to enter the court in Harmony, putting the Manger under the spotlight.

This is what I want match going fans to improve on, decide on which player they want to see off the bench and sign on his name until he's brought on.

"great player" no, but great prospect yes. And coming into the year had just been one of the main men for Sunderland on loan in the championship showing far more of a skill set than Antony ever has.

This isn't us talking about giving Lingard more minutes because he popped up and scored a big goal. It's a top young prospect that we REFUSED to let leave on loan even after Ten Hag never gave him a sniff, and even after taking basically the only chance he's had this year to impress and winning the match with it, still gets 0 time.

It's sackable man management from someone that people praise for "embedding youth" (personally think he's had to do it more out of desperation than anything via Garnacho/Mainoo)

I'd also have less of an issue with the Amad treatment if Antony was actually a real prospect as well, but he isn't. At his best he's still a bottom table winger and that won't change no matter how much game time he's given. This isn't Garnacho from last year where it's an inconsistent, raw young player that clearly has the skills to develop but just needs more and more experience. Antony won't magically get stronger, quicker, or become more dangerous around the box just because he plays more. The Chelsea game is at the limits of his ability, and every other week you don't get to face Cucurella.

Amad has also been inured for about 28 games this season.

Lets be sensible and take into account the amount of games he has missed due to injury, I would say Amad deserves to have about 2-3 more appearances than he currently has this season. Hopefully he can get a few more matches before the season ends.

Definitely looks like a decent young player. Hope he turns out as good as you think. Right now he's 21 and has looked good for us a couple of times, anonymous a couple of times and looked like a a good level Championship player.

Let's hope he kicks on.

I don't mean to be unkind and Ten Hag has done plenty enough to be sacked by now but the idea that not playing this lad is a "sackable offence" is pretty absurd.

There is an argument to be had against ETH. Antony has been given plenty of chances, he’s liked his pants on quite a few occasions, and yet he’s still given the benefit of the manager’s doubt between Antony and Amad. Amad has done enough to be given at least two full matches.

ETH gave Forson chances that should have gone to Amad.

Yes, I was rather aiming for the obscene low chance to get a good game out of Antony. And thereby the other options such as Amad should be tested much more at this point.

I'm not speaking specifically about Diallo, it's more the general practice of repeatedly playing and giving minutes to players that don't deserve them over players that do, especially when the latter is a highly rated young talent that you didn't allow to leave on loan and the former is your own 80m "had to have him" signing that's put up a whopping 1 assist and 0 goals in the league this year.

Yes I think Amad is a very good talent with serious potential as a half space 8, but I'd be just as irate if this was anyone. Player lights up his loan spell showing great potential--> Hardly gets a look in as a rotation option for the main club ---> Wishes to leave to a low table PL or Championship side to get more regular minutes----> Not allowed, and still doesn't get minutes with main team that has a grand total of 1 winger playing well this season ---> FINALLY gets a decent spell in extra time of a huge cup game against one of the best teams in the league and makes the most of it while scoring the winner ----> gets 0 (!!) minutes of playing time after = sackable man management.

Christ I forgot about Forson, who has looked lost every time he's stepped onto the pitch so far for us. It's fine, Amad will get 10 minutes some time soon and not do anything and then people will say "See, that's why he hasn't been getting minutes".

He could have had a couple more games after a decent loan spell in the Championship. Probably didn't help that he was injured most of the season. Probably also didn't help himself getting sent off in pretty idiotic fashion. A "half space 8" sounds like something someone made up when trying to explain their brilliant football manager tactics.

If he had looked like a Garnacho or a Mainoo it would be enough to be so irate about. He's looked fine, I really don't like downplaying players but he looks alright.

No he hasn't. I hate this about the cafe, why do we have to put another player down (one of our own ffs), to make a point about Amad deserving more minutes? Is there no possible reason Forson deserved those minutes?

Forson has looked lost barring one of his sub appearances. Nothing against Forson, he's just not ready for this level of football yet.

Hes had 66 mins of football in the prem in total. His 5 mins against wolves was decent enough and helped create space for Mainoo's goal. Fulham wasn't great, but neither was Mainoo that day. And then got 8 mins against City.

I don't know why anyone would judge that based on 66 mins of senior football, for a youth player, to then use that as moan about blocking amad's minutes.

Because Amad is a full senior who was Sunderland's best player last season and a far bigger talent than Forson to begin with.

Amad is a better player than Forson but Forson was fitter at the time and putting in the effort in training all that time Amad was injured. I don’t understand how people aren’t taking that into account at all. Think before you post?

Because he got minutes over someone who's shown more at a senior level? This isn't me saying Forson is shite for the record, just that I'd expect someone who's got not a single minute at the top level to show why he might be doing so over another player who's already shown potential at the same level. We don't have to white knight for every player, maybe he'll come good maybe he won't. But up to now he's not been in the same bracket of high rated youth prospects as players like Garnacho/Mainoo/Amad/Lacey etc that are/were coming through before so it's not like everyone was waiting for his big debut to finally come. And I don't even think it's some huge put down to say he "looked lost", in fact that's pretty much what I'd expect from most first time senior players that hadn't kicked a ball at that level.

Amad was in training for 3 months before Forson's debut for the record (early March). He was just as fit by that point. Maybe look before you post?

As we’ve seen there’s a big difference between being back in training and being ready to play. The manger has been good with Amad and Forson in the circumstances
