What a just great decision from him to be so concerned by the player out wide and leave the man wide open right at the box. Cause clearly that was the important player to mark. Literally basic stuff worry about inside player first

Not quite sure what you are trying to say but kambwala had other bournemouth player to mark, and casemiro was just who knows feck where. Doesn't change the fact that dalot had 2 people to worry about, and chose the dumb option to be concerned with. He looked mad that garnacho wasn't taking away the out wide option but Doesn't really matter in that moment. You cover the inside man and work on getting players rotated over when the ball goes wide. Ffs he just let an easy pass got right on the inside of him and was in no man's land to do anything about it.

Probably one of his worse games of late. Positionally off and just wasn't quite there with take-ons and passing/crossing choices.

Doesn't look as sharp and a bit tired. Not surprised at all. Saw this a mile away with the shit on a stick football we play.

I keep an eye on his performance thread and there are many deluded fans here that are worried about losing him to Madrid ffs.
Please point to the many examples.

Otherwise hyperbole for a player you seem to genuinely hate.

Kambwala and Casemiro were both central marking no one and Maguire only had one man near him. Absolutely no reason one of the two did not slide over to take that man. Why would Dalot need to slide centrally in that scenario - only for Bournemouth to then play in the wide man who would be wide open - when we have two defenders completely free who should be taking responsibility?

A wide open man at the touch line nowhere near goal is absolutely no threat at that moment. Abandoning his closest man that is in a more dangerous spot was just stupid by dalot.

This is a silly argument. Every fullback in the world is going to close that down.

But not as stupid as just marking no one and not stepping out to close down a man dribbling free into your box. The center back is the one who has to be taking control there, and his inexperience cost us there.

Just done a search of this thread with posts containing "Madrid". One poster said Madrid would be interested and just one other agreed. So I'll give you 2. One other person said they could "see why" Madrid were interested years ago. So at most, 3. But really only 2. Hardly "many".

Has been playing well, but he really makes too many poor decisions as a defender. His only outstanding attribute is that he's always fit.

I've always maintained he's not good enough and will stick by that.

He's improved this season but I still don't rate him. Never have.

Nah he's quick and strong as well. Athletically he's top level.

I think there'll always be that doubt about him though, that at any moment he can go back to being dopey.

You're right, every fb leaves his man in the box to go cover a guy on the touchline.
It's a simple big-man little-man setup with Kluivert and Solanke. If you can't deal with the little guy drifting wide then you have no business playing football.

The normal play is FB --> Touchline, CB --> goes wide, DM --> drops into the space vacated by the CB.

TBH, and I'm one of those who were against his renewal, it's not really his fault we are a complete tactical anarchy who puts the players in a position they have to make a decision on their own several times per match, because there's no midfield covering the defence.

One of the very few likeable players who comes away with any credit this season that we have.

Very good first half in particular but faded a bit. Should probably win our POTY.

He was the best player on the pitch today. Probably should have gotten MoTM if Maguire didnt score a goal

He's a good football player.think he will do better with better players around him.
It was nice to see one of his runs actually found for the opener and not ignored

Gotta say I really feel for our fullbacks in this current setup. They don't ever seem to stop sprinting.

Had a fantastic game today. I think it was @Jeppers7 I had a moan about Dalot, suggesting that he'd not actually had a great season but if I'm being honest I could be well in the wrong there, Dalot has been far better this season than last and can hold his head up high.

Thought he was pretty poor today. He does some very weird things. Like the first goal, why did he leave his position to go all the way in to midfield on the opposite side of the pitch. Just made no sense to me. it resulted in Casemiro trying to cover two positions when Dalot had no reason to go where he went.

We do need him as he’s the only one with any sort of athleticism in the back 4 and the amount of times his speed saves us is unreal.

Terrible defensively I thought. Switched off numerous times. Allowed people to stroll past him numerous times.
If you watch the first Coventry goal closely he shouts at Casemiro and points as to who he should mark.
Casemiro doesn’t move, Sims scores.
He’s a better communicator than people give him credit for and he’s got much more rapid this year.
Thought he did well today.

Yeah Casemiro was at fault for the first goal I agree. But Dalot wasn’t good enough defensively. I know people like him and he has probably been the best of a bad bunch this season but I feel in recent weeks he’s got sloppy with his defensive work. We’re shipping 2–3 goals every game at the moment and he’s part of that defence. He’s not making errors as such, players just seem to be beating him very easily.

Yeah it was me. He’s been one of the better players. I’d still say we could improve massively on him.

Overall I'd agree but today I thought he was better than the past few matches defensively. For example in the first half he cleared the ball at the back post after Coventry put in a cross like Dalot's one for Mctominay's opener. If he doesnt do that its a goal.

On top of that players freely run at our fullbacks every game, sometimes with the support of extra players making runs in behind them too. They have a much higher workload than most other fullbacks because most teams would set up to help them more doubling up on wingers and making sure to track back for supporting players. Our team does very little of this.

And yes obviously you'd still expect that a fullback if taken on one on one 5 or 6 times a game that they'd still win the duel most of the time but theres going to be times when the winger has the advantage and any other team would make a change to fix that. Not us. We just let it play out even when our fullbacks are having a rough game against a winger playing really well and having success. They're expected to just suddenly fix it without any extra help and of course it never happens. Occasionally you do see our midfielders like mctominay doubling up on a winger - not a change midgame, but from the start. And obviously that leaves a massive space in the middle of the pitch if your central players are wide instead of in the middle. Thats why it needs to be the wide players getting back and helping the fullbacks so that the central players can be responsible for the middle of the pitch.

Most underrated current United player. Definitely the type of lad I’d like kept in the squad moving forward. Not an automatic starter but a useful sub option.

Safe to say Dalot is our player of the season this term.

In fact, at this point I think it'd be fair to say that Dalot is the one and only example of us absolutely nailing a transfer in the post-Ferguson era.

He’s been here for nearly 6 years now and has only really played well in about 20 games combined.

He’s not even the best defender we’ve had this year, Maguire is.

Calls him underrated then says he should stay as a sub. You are part of the under rating mate.

There isnt a right back that doesn’t play for the top 3 teams we would rather have. And even with that said, Walker is 34 next month, Trent would be a disaster for us, im not sure Ben White is better than Dallot.

With dalot we need to remember we got him very young and for less than 20m.
I think it's a type of signing we need more of and would look better than it was if we had a functioning team in front of him.

I actually thought dalot was a dud when we loaned him out, but even if he was, it wouldn't have been a big loss.

I think weve seen signs of what he can be or become and he's just turned 25.
