As a former ref, I see many penalty situations that are understandably not given even though they look bad, particularily regarding hands. The rules have grey zones, there is the interpretation of intent, what is natural etc.
I have tried to rummage my mind for aspects that could explain why VAR did not help the ref there. So far I have only come up with bribes.
How has the on field ref and the VAR ref together not seen that penalty?!?!
Well we all know how the UAE employee hasn't seen it but the VAR guy needs sacking on the spot.
It surprised that I had to come here to see anything about it. All the press is just about Pep moaning over the busy schedule.
The mere fact that Chelsea didn't even get the corner surely indicates that Oliver has seen no contact, which would make his view of the situation a clear and obvious error.
Not even VAR related but what is he and the lino looking at that they've not seen it's a corner? Baffling, it wasn't just a tiny knick either.

You think that’s handball? Pretty normal to jump with your arms out to the side, and then it’s kicked at him with power from short distance. Would hate to see that given against us.
The fact that there's an obvious movement of the arm towards the ball as the ball is about to go underneath his outstretched arm makes it a penalty.
And no, when you're in the wall it's not normal to jump with your arms outwards. Look at the others, don't see them flailing their arm but as the wall breaks his arm goes out, impedes the ball's path with a movement of the arm towards the ball.

In a defensive wall at a free kick, players don't often jump with their arms outstretched like Christ the redeemer, they cover their balls, face or have them behind their backs.
Or his arm just drops as it would when you’re on your way down again after jumping. It’s hardly an obvious movement towards the ball. You’ve seen them given. I think it would have been a cheap goal.
They decide the outcome of far too many games with their incompetence.

I cant see what excuse's Dermott comes up with to justify that handball not resulting in a penalty.

Ill try not to choke on these words but I’ll give Oliver (the useless cheating w@nker) the benefit of the doubt but not VAR.
He gives a goal kick so it’s by definition an error, then it hits the arm so they HAVE TO call him to the screen and let him make a decision with all the info.

Oliver could've sent off Caicedo for this handball by Grealish and Dermott would justify it easily.

The handball was bad, but I thought Walker on Jackson was a stonewall pen too. It's not shoulder to shoulder, it's shoulder in the back effectively pushing him over. Can't see how it wasn't given.

Just seen that David Coote is on VAR for the Merseyside Derby in midweek, that cant have gone down well with the Liverpool fans.

Not too concerned about the marginal calls people are moaning at above. Any blame should be placed at Jackson's door. I'm not sure footballer is the best use of his skills.
Walker did same to Rashford in the derby. He's very good at the subtle tactical foul when opponent is running at full pace.
