What’s Real Madrid’s secret?

It’s the only explanation. Snatching victory from the jaws of defeat is the Real Madrid way. I have never seen a club so this so many times and every single season.

Mentality and good luck. Their belief is unreal, we saw the same stuff in 99. If you could bottle that…

Luck, refs and just a general belief that they should win. Think that can't be underestimated. Other teams hope they can win, whereas Real Madrid expect to win.

Also the way they play suits knockout football more than league football. They have players capable of reacting and playing instinctively at the highest level in big moments rather than being driven by one particular playing style like Man City for example. That matters in big one-off occasions and fine margins.

I vehemently don't believe in voodoo or juju or any of that.

I'm willing to make an exception for Madrid

Culture. There's no excuses there. Lose your best player and only striker? No problem, just convert a CM into a false 9 and deal with it.

Lose your first choice keeper? Oh well, make do and get us into another final.
It's so hard to manufacture that culture and heritage but one of the big things is that people go to Real Madrid at their peak to win things. All their players arrive expecting it. It's seen as a privilege to be playing for them and everyone is fighting to stay in the team for as long as possible.

Whereas players come to us for example, for a payday, not to win things. It would take us a long time to change that culture.

The biggest factor I think are the standards at Madrid. Florentino and co don’t tolerate mediocrity from managers or players, nor do their fans. The second biggest factor is that Madrid have an appeal that no other club in world football has, so barring financial constraints, they can usually get whatever player they want

Referees as always. That was a goal for Bayern at the end.

Also playing in a league where there's no worry to qualify for CL spots. That's a given.

Can't be a goal if the whistle has gone before it has gone in. Whether the lino should have flagged or the ref should have whistled is a different argument, but it wasn't a goal.

Friendly reminder that Real Madrid haven’t lost a European final since 1983 - to Sir Alex’s Aberdeen!

Neuer rolls back the years? No problem, just have him commit a grave howler in the dying minutes of the game.

This club's got juju. But it's kept City and Pool from winning more CL titles so I'm happy enough.

We need CL Madrid vs 23/24 Leverkusen. Unstoppable force vs unmovable object.

If you do it enough times it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy - kind of like Fergie time. You could see the Bayern players shit their pants after the first because they know this story already.

That and the culture that they built up with Mourinho, Ronaldo and Zidane. The other team might play better , but you still manage to get the win. Mentality monsters.

Bribery. Being subsidized by government whenever they hit financial issues (though to be fair, they've not had to do this ins a while). Black magic. Along with Barca, having a near-monopoly on the best Brazilians due to the money, weather and success (breeding further success).

High expectations, ruthlessness, etc

If they don't get success, shite kicks off, fans also don't accept low standards. Shame we don't have that unfortunately.

I can't explain how Madrid will likely have 6 titles and Chelsea 2 titles, or have been in 3 finals in the past 12 years. Can't beat the Champions League for massive flukes to be fair.... can we get in on it please?

They players and manager know if they don't perform the white handkerchiefs will be out and they will be gone.

Meanwhile at Old Trafford we accept sub par performances and have zero standards at the minute. We need to be more ruthless.

Much has been said about City's 115 charges, but not enough about Uncle Flo practicing the obscure and ancient art of nigromancy.

Joselu's brace to overcome an adverse result in CL semis with less than 5 minutes to go is taking the piss.

Good fortune. City were better than them a couple of years ago and should have gone through to the final. City also were better than them this season. I do think they were better than Bayern tonight, but a big goalkeeping error kept them in it.
Good fortune? Really??

You disagree with the examples I gave? I could have said that they have this unshakeable belief that somehow gets them over the line, but they've been outplayed by City over two legs twice. Even Liverpool were the better side in the final against them two years ago.

I mean you could make the claim that they "forced" the error from Neuer... but regardless, it's still an astonishingly low chance, they indeed get a ton of good fortune. It's hardly deniable.

1.They sacked two managers in the same season before Zidane was hired again. No BS about "needs time", "his squad" and shit. You win games or you are out.
2. They absolutely don't care how old is a player, is he academy product or what he did for the club. When player is not producing, he is off. There is no sympathy contracts or second chance there.
3. Season without winning CL or La liga is not a good season and is resulting with the sack.
4. Manager is the coach only. He works with what he gets.
5. Fans give boos to players after every defeat/bad game. You don't get applause for trying and passion there ;)

On the manager thing, Abramovich did that too, no fecks given, maybe that's the true key to the CL?

It's not mentality. It's recruitment. They've been buying the best young players to emerge for what, 5, 6 years now? And then they get older and their class shines through. Vinicius, Rodrygo, Camavinga, Tchuameni, Bellingham.. soon to be Endrick and Mbappe. And you have the likes of Guler, Odeegard, Kubo who are/were fringe players.

They started it their modern era by spending big on the likes of Ronaldo, Bale etc. When they could no longer buy the best player from other clubs for £100m or so, they decided to spend focus on the best young talents.

What do we do in comparison? We let the great 2008 get old, and then let an assortment of bum managers starting with Van Gaal sign crap and more crap. It's still going on 10 years later. Imagine asking Ole or Ten Haag who the best young talent abroad is? One signed English players only, the other signs players he's coached or played against with Ajax. Totally the wrong approach.

Every single Abramovich sacking, perhaps with the exception of Ancelotti, was 100% correct. Through swift and decisive action, Chelsea during his ownership rescued so many seasons that would've otherwise been wasted.
